that's the foundation right Liberal Arts is the foundation for every single

advanced degree for every single career that's out there from criminal justice

law medicine technology science to languages and art we serve our country

very well by creating the next generation of public servants service

members in the military but we also take a more holistic view of the citizen

soldier that we're trying to create right we're not just creating students

to serve in a profession of a major in programs that will serve them no matter

what job they end up in they're still going to be citizens, they're still going

to be somebody's neighbor they're going to be fathers mothers friends and so

we're trying to equip them with the skills that will take them for the next

60 70 years of their life to be adaptable flexible to be able to make

sense and be engaged with the world that they're living at some point our

students in their careers are going to be asked to look at to read to

understand to analyze a mass of information and to synthesize it into a

15 second elevator presentation into a PowerPoint presentation into a

presentation in the White House or in war room or in a situation room or in a

conference room and those are skills that are required no matter what job and

when we graduate we are everywhere serving in our battlefields and our

boardrooms and our communities across the nation

and around the globe

Ross Thibodeau, PA, Physician Assistant, University of Vermont Medical Center - Duration: 1:39.

Hi, my name is Ross Thibodeau and I'm an orthopedic physician assistant.

In the hip and knee clinic, we do offer total joint arthroplasty, both hip

replacement and knee replacement, but we also do offer the complete service of

non-operative therapies for any hip and knee problem, generally speaking. I really

enjoy being able to work both in clinic and also in the operating room with our

surgeons directly hands-on.

One of the most rewarding things about working in the knee and hip clinic is

being able to see the outcomes and follow the patients through the whole

process. I can see them come in on day one, a lot of times patients are having

difficulty walking, difficulty with basic activities of daily living, and we can

start them on the correct path, provide them with pain relief and, if need be,

surgery for their issue and then we get to see them back again in clinic and see

how well they're doing and see how happy they are.

University professor demoted after telling students to speak only English - Duration: 2:42.

A university professor has been demoted after telling students to speak only English in faculty buildings

Megan Neely sent an email to students saying she had received complaints from two faculty members about graduate students speaking Chinese "VERY LOUDLY" in student lounge and study areas

"I encourage you to commit to using English 100% of the time when you are in Hock or any other professional setting," Neely said in the email to students, a copy of which was provided by the university

Her much-criticised email was distributed widely on social media.  Neely stepped down on Saturday as director of graduate studies for the university's Master of Biostatistics Program but will continue her faculty teaching, Duke said in a statement

Mary Klotman, dean of School of Medicine, apologised to students for Neely's email and said the department would review its biostatistics program

"There is absolutely no restriction or limitation on the language you use to converse and communicate with each other," Klotman said in a letter on Saturday

"They were disappointed that these students were not taking the opportunity to improve their English and were being so impolite as to have a conversation that not everyone on the floor could understand," Neely said in the email

"To international students, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep these unintended consequences in mind when you choose to speak in Chinese in the building," she added

Duke has about 175 undergraduates from China, out of a total 6,800, and 1,300 graduate and professional students from China across all schools and departments, out of a total of about 8,500, the university said

"I deeply regret the hurt my email has caused. It was not my intention," Neely said in a statement distributed by Duke
