Jose Mourinho reveals how long Man Utd star Romelu Lukaku will be out for

The Manchester United star was stretchered off after just 10 minutes of the Red Devils' draw with Southampton this evening. Lukaku suffered a clash of heads with Saints centre-back Wesley Hoedt and needed oxygen on the pitch.

And Mourinho has confirmed that the Belgium international will be sidelined for at least two games.

"When you see a player leave the pitch like he did, it is usually two games at least," Mourinho told BT Sport after United's draw with Southampton.

That rules Lukaku out of United's clashes with Everton on Monday and their FA Cup tie with Derby on Friday January 5. Mourinho also revealed that superstar Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be sidelined for a month.

When asked about Ibrahimovic's absence from United's squad against the Saints, Mourinho told BT Sport: "Zlatan - one month out." United fell to third in the Premier League table today, with Chelsea leapfrogging the Red Devils.

Mourinho's men have now drawn three consecutive league games. United need to beat Everton on Monday in the late kick-off to have a chance of going ahead of Chelsea and closing the gap on runaway league leaders Manchester City.

Today let's talk about the American education system, and talking about school!

Well children, it's the last day of school!

If you are for real about your English education, then click here to get

on Patreon for today's special story time! where I read you a really terrible

book that I wrote in the sixth grade, when I was a 6th grader! and join fast

because when we get to 50 patrons, we'll start doing two live videos each week on

patreon! so hurry up, yo! let's start from the beginning of your education,

elementary school! also called primary school and grade school. elementary

school starts with kindergarten. children in kindergarten are between the ages of

five and six. the focus isn't so much on education as it is on interacting with

other students, playing some games and learning how to behave in a classroom. if

you are in kindergarten you are a kindergartner. and in general you are an

elementary, a primary, or a grade school student. some kids start going to school

before kindergarten, this is called Pre-k or pre-kindergarten, which is basically

just a daycare. after this we have the main part of elementary school, from

grades 1 to 5, ages 6 to 10. in education a grade has two very important, but very

different definitions. the grades you are in and the grades you get for the

coursework you do. the 1st grade describes the level or the class that

you are in. for elementary school your grades are 1st through 5th. to tell

people the grade you are in, you can either say, to be a 1st grader a 2nd

grader a 3rd grader a 4th grader or a 5th grader.

you could also say to be in first grade in 2nd in 3rd in 4th in 5th grade. the

second definition of grade relates to the quality of the coursework and the

homework that you do. as a student you can get good grades and you can get bad

grades. in the United States it's not common to get a mark, it's much more

common to get a grade. and you are usually graded from zero to a hundred.

we also attach a letter to each of these grades. the letters you can get are an A

B C D and F. F means failing, you failed the course. D is usually passing, although

it can be failing. C is average. B is excellent. and an A is nearly perfect.

after you finish elementary school, you start middle school. also called junior

high. it's called middle school because it's

between your primary education and your secondary education, or high school. the

school year is now divided into halves, or semesters, and each semester has two

quarters. so four quarters in a year with two semesters. middle school is most

commonly from grades 6 to 8, ages 11 to 13. to tell people the grade you're in, it's

exactly the same as in primary school. so pause the video right now and try to

give me the answers before I tell you them! here we go, to be a 6th grader a

seventh grader or an 8th grader – or you can say to be in sixth grade in seventh

grade in eighth grade. and in general, you are now a middle schooler, or to be in

middle school. when you finish middle school you start your secondary

education. you start high school. this is from grades 9 to 12, ages 14 to 18. when

telling people what grade you're in, you can still tell them that you're in a

grade – in 9th grade 10th 11th or 12th grade. but you no longer say anything

like I'm a tenth grader, it sounds bizarre. instead 9th grade is your

freshman year, or to be a freshman. 10th grade is your sophomore year, or to be a

sophomore. 11th grade is your junior year, to be a junior. and 12th grade is your

senior year, or to be a senior. and if you fail one of the grades, you are a super

senior! that's more of a joke th– there really is no super senior grade. high

school is also when you can start to fail classes, and if you fail them you

might have to repeat them. before this, grades didn't really mean anything.

now they determine if you pass or fail. and if you fail too many classes, then

you can be kept behind. means you have to stay in the same grade. if you're failing

classes it might be because you're skipping them. to skip a class means to

not go to a class. To skip school means to not go to any of

your classes that day. if you arrive late to a class you are tardy. and you will be

marked tardy. if you don't attend some classes you will be marked truant, and

you can get in serious trouble for bad truancy.

to drop out of school means to stop attending completely, to not graduate. so

if you drop out of high school you are a high school dropout. and if you drop out

of college or university you are a college dropout. the grading system for

both high school and university are determined based on your GPA. your Grade

Point Average. now a GPA of 4.0 is an A, 3.0 is a B, 2.0 is a C, 1.0 is a D. and if

you graduate from high school you can start your higher education, also called

post-secondary education. higher education institutions award degrees

upon graduation. and in the US it's completely your choice to choose your

major and your minor. your major is your main course of study, and your minor is

your secondary discipline. you can also change these at any time during your

education. if you get a two-year degree, this is from a Technical College, also

called a tech school. these schools are focused on trained labor skills,

oftentimes jobs where you use your hands. otherwise if you want to obtain a

four-year diploma, you will enroll in a university or college – these words mean

exactly the same thing, there is no difference between a university and a

college. to do this, while still in high school you need to take either the ACT

or the SAT. these are entrance exams to get accepted

to a university. in university, the grades are the same as in high school, both for

the grades you receive and the grade that you are in – freshman sophomore

junior or senior. to help pay for the cost of university, you can apply for

scholarships, grants, and financial aid from the government. as well you can take

out loans, meaning borrow money, either from the government or from private

institutions. many students will also work part-time in order to pay for

university. every class is worth a certain number of

credits, most often three. and to be a full-time student you need to be taking

at least 12 credits per semester. if you're taking less than that, you are a

part-time student and you might not be able to get financial aid. while pursuing

your first degree in university, you are an undergraduate or an undergrad. and the

name of your degree is your bachelors. after finishing your first degree, you

can continue your specialization and get your master's degree. now you are called

either a grad or graduate student, or a post grad or post graduate student. if

you continue your education after that, you can pursue your doctorate or PhD. now

you're called a PhD student or a doctoral student. when you've finished

your actual PhD studies but you haven't finished your thesis, you are called a

PhD candidate or a doctoral candidate. Phew! That was a lot of information !elementary

school middle school high school and university! in English you're probably

going to tell a lot of people about your history studying in the past, or what you

want to study in the future. to get a head start and to really memorize this

stuff, write some examples in the comments! tell me about your background:

what you studied, what you're studying now, or what you still want to study! and

remember to check out patreon to get this week's new videos and to vote for

Wednesday's and Friday's videos next week! these videos are made possible thanks to

patrons, uh, like Norah. Uh, Merci, Norah Merci. Merci beaucoup! Are youstill there? I've got a

little bit more information for you– we have another thing called homeschooling.

if you're homeschooled, it means your parents taught you or hired a tutor to

teach you at home. it's not super common and I would say most people are

home-schooled if their parents have certain religious beliefs. the other

thing I wanted to tell you about, is the thing that you wear on your back. where

you put your books, folders, pens and pencils. that's your backpack. backpack!

backpack!

My name is Russell Guyver, I'm a musician here at the real international cello

encounter and we're having a wonderful collaboration here with the Youth

Orchestra from Ecuador, from Quito Ecuador and this morning I've enjoyed

very much working with their viola section. Very talented, very receptive and

wonderful people and so I'd like to just encourage them, number one: practice

slowly. Practice slowly at the instrument. The viola is an instrument with unique

possibilities of sound and we have to explore that as we did it in today's

class, so I really encourage that, please, think of phrasing just as when one

speaks; one pauses, one takes a breath and so on, so with the bow into the similar

things. I encourage you in your studies. Please work mindfully, in all you do

think about what you are studying. Always have a goal in mind,

a result that you want from your studies and, from my experience this morning, I

know you will be successfull

Mental Health Issues at University - Duration: 3:25.

When thinking about a university experience many people think of the best times of their life, new friends, a new city to explore

Constant nights out and maybe a bit of studying, however this may be far from the truth for some people

In fact an NUS survey reported that around 8 out of 10 students in UK universities

experiences some form of mental health issue

With around 75 percent of mental health issues developing before the age of 25, teamed with the complex stress factors

Surrounding university life such as leaving family and friends at home, pressure to excel in

Educational and social life, and money worries. This is perhaps not a surprising figure

But it is not just the sheer amount of students that experience mental health issues that is the only problem

It is the amount of these people that do not seek help

More than 54 percent of respondents from the NUS survey who reported having experienced mental health problems said they did not seek support

1/3 said they would not know where to get mental health support from at their college or university if they needed it

So what can you do if you are suffering from something that is affecting your mental health at university?

While the list of different mental health issues is endless you could be suffering from depression

exam stress, social anxiety or many more

There is always somewhere to start and that somewhere is to talk

Talking sounds easy right? Well to people suffering from these conditions, it is their idea of a nightmare

While family and friends might be a great place to start, you may feel more comfortable speaking to an outsider

Universities offer lots of different pastoral care including counselling servicesm group therapy and workshops, on campus

Doctors, drop-in services for any of your mental health needs, and personal tutors and lecturers who will be ready to help you with your work load

Look up what your university is offering and how to get in contact through their website

Most have a mental health section, which includes lots of important contact numbers and emails

But there's always another option there are many websites and organizations,

specifically designed for students with a mental health issue.

Make sure to check out student mind or Nightline, the charity run by students for students

also, look in the information box down below for more charities numbers and websites that can help you with your mental illness

Lastly there are thousands of people attending the same University as you, while it may seem like the hardest thing to do

Maybe you could join a society

Talk to someone in your lecture, ask for someone to go for a coffee

As you never know if they could be in the same situation as you

struggling with their mental health

Leave a comment down below suggesting ways in which you have dealt with your mental health at university or

Places that you have been which have helped also, and if you're a university student yourself

Dalhousie University 200th anniversary - Duration: 1:50.

This is where it all really began. Up until now has just been

preparation and now it's here, it's the start.

I think we just have to remember to get out of our comfort zone but once you step outside

you can meet new people and have

experiences that you never thought you'd have. I feel like I've laid a really good foundation here at Dal and met some really amazing people.

Every milestone, I put in my life has been the start of something new and something great.

We're so lucky to be at a place where the sky is the limit.

When a student graduates, it is a culmination of their hopes and dreams and usually those of their family. The last 200 years have been

about a great university serving a great province and a great country.

You're kind of thrown into a family where you have that social support, which is unbelievable.

Dal has such a long history

and I think marking the 200th can

reflect the new way we think of society. Things are going to change really fast and being here right now at Dalhousie,

you can see it happening.

I think life just keeps restarting. Once you get a handle on the fact that every day is a new beginning

then you just sort of enjoy each one. I'm excited to graduate and take the next step forward.

It's easily the best decision of my life.

Mum hopes royal picture will pay for university Breaking News - Duration: 6:58.

It is the picture every photographer wanted to get. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle were snapped beaming as they walked to St Mary Magdalene Church, on the Sandringham estate, for the Christmas Day service yesterday.

This candid photo of the royal 'fab four' has been shared thousands of times on social media and has appeared on websites and in newspapers around the world this morning.

But the image was not taken by a professional photographer. Instead it is the work of single mother Karen Anvil, 39, from Watlington, Norfolk, who was among the dozens of well-wishers who gathered to catch a glimpse of the royals yesterday morning.

Ms Anvil described how she was able to grab the royals' attention by screaming like a 'fan-girl' and is now hoping the money she makes from it will help pay for 17-year-old daughter Rachel's university fees.

Scroll down for videos Speaking to theBBC, she said: 'I'm just very bubbly by nature and I was with my daughter and I got a bit excitable, I suppose.

'I was just sort of shouting and I just went 'Merry Christmas!' like an idiot. I was fan-girling. That's all I said and got them to look.'

Ms Anvil and Rachel were among the supporters who braved the chilly temperatures to catch a glimpse of the senior royals on their way to church yesterday.

The crowds are permitted to line the route while professional photographers are restricted in where they can go, giving Ms Anvil her excellent vantage point.

She shared the image on yesterday morning and was shocked when it quickly swept the web.

Ms Anvil explained that at first she allowed people to use the image for free before realising there was the potential to earn some money.

Followers and other users started commenting on the picture, telling Ms Anvil she could charge for its use.

Ms Anvil said she will put any money she earns towards paying for Rachel's education. She added: 'The thing is - and I hate to play the single mum card - I'm a single parent, I work two jobs, which I'm proud of and I've always worked.

'Now I want to save money for my daughter for uni and if I can do that, and can get that opportunity that's amazing.'

Meghan was elegant in a wide collar, camel wrap coat by Canadian luxury brand Sentaler as she made her appearance with the Royal Family on Christmas Day.

Her coat tapered in around the waist and flared out at the hem for the St Mary Magdalene Church Christmas service.

Matching her camel coat with a chestnut-brown felt hat, Meghan wore a pair of coordinating £630 Stuart Weitzman's Hiline high-heeled suede boots.

Meghan and the Queen met privately with Harry before their engagement was announced but had not been seen together by others until today.

After her curtsy to the Queen, Harry led Meghan to a wheelchair-ridden well-wisher who had waited in the cold to wish the couple a Merry Christmas.

The pair then accepted bouquets from fans as they walked back to Sandringham House. Meghan, with her first curtsy behind her and a day of formal festivities ahead, seemed to loosen up as she greeted and accepted gifts from well-wishers.

Kate, who is pregnant with her third child and showed off a small baby bump beneath a striking £2,655 tartan Miu Miu coat.

She completed her look with a £900 round handbag in brown leather and caramel suede with a gold coloured handle made by Chloe, while a pair of Maison Birk diamond earrings added a touch of sparkle to Ms Markle's classy ensemble.

They are the same £3,500 Snowflake design earrings she wore to her Buckingham Palace dinner last week.

It is thought her brown hat may be a Jane Taylor piece, a milliner popular with Kate. It is the first time Meghan and Kate have been pictured together since Meghan and Prince Harry their impending nuptials.

The 2-year-old and her big brother, Prince George, are accompanying mom Princess Kate and dad Prince William on their official visit to Poland and Germany.

And though Charlotte isn't tagging along for the events, she showed that she's more than ready for royal duty — and has the curtsy skills to prove it.

While departing from Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday morning after a two day visit, to head to Berlin, Charlotte bid adieu to the Polish dignitaries who lined up to see the family off.

And at the encouragement of her mom, Charlotte ducked into a curtsy (like a pro, we might add!).

The crazy thing? No one seems to be looking! But we bet mom Kate is the one to thank for this incredibly adorable moment.

Who better to show Charlotte the ropes than the queen of curtsies herself!.

George was also showing off his greeting savvy, shaking lots of hands upon arriving in Berlin.

The lesson here? Both George and Charlotte are getting cuter (and royal ready!) by the day.

Woman makes racist comment to black man in airport – his answer is brilliant

It is deplorable that there is still so much racism in the world today. No one should think

they are superior to others just because they have a different skin color.

For many, these events may go unnoticed, but for those who suffer racism is a constant

presence in their daily life.

Fortunately, social media helps to bring this disrespect for others to light, and people

who are full of prejudice are publicly condemned for their attitude.

This is the story of Emmit Walker, a music executive who spoke out about a situation

he experienced only recently.

Walker, who works in Washington, was about to take a plane in first class, so he got

in the passenger queue with priority.

However, behind him was a woman who did not believe that this man could fly first class.

Her: Excuse me I believe you may be in the wrong place you need to let us through. This

line is for priority boarding.

Me: Priority meaning first class, correct?

Her: Yes…now excuse me, they will call y'all after we board

Me: *shove first class priority boarding pass in her face* You can relax ma'am I'm in

the right spot, been here longer, so you can board after me

Her: *still won't let it go* He must be military or something, but we paid for our

seats so he still should have to wait

Me: Nope too big to ever be in anybody's military. I'm just a n**** with money. (Everyone

in line starts to clap)

His reply was not only supported by the passengers who were waiting to board, but by thousands

of people who later liked and shared the post.

I'm glad that this man gave the woman a good lesson! Please share this story if you

agree.

Who Wins 'Game Of Thrones?' Alleged Script Leaks Potentially Reveal Answer - Duration: 3:09.

Who Wins 'Game Of Thrones?' Alleged Script Leaks Potentially Reveal Answer

Fans of Game of Thrones are still going to be waiting until 2019 to officially see who wins the fight for the Iron Throne on TV, but some alleged script leaks for the HBO series 8th and final season may have already revealed which Westerosi warrior is going to be the one who succeeds.

Fans have been speculating for a long time about who would actually take the Iron Throne, and while several contenders are still in play,

the three biggest remaining possible winners are Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and the Night King (Vladimir Furdik).

However, a Reddit account which claims to have received leaked script pages from Season 8 episodes, including the series finale, may have revealed which one is going to be triumphant.

Spoiler Alert: The potential ending of Game of Thrones is discussed in great detail below.

The reddit thread, known as freefolk, has often accurately predicted how the show would play out before, meaning the spoilers they claim to have may very well be accurate.

If they are correct, and the alleged script leaks are accurate, then those who are hopeful that one particular character ascends to power will be extraordinarily happy in the end.

According to that leak, of the remaining three big contenders for power, the one who will be successful in the end is Daenerys Targaryen, and Jon and Cersei will both perish before the show comes to an end.

According to the thread, Jons death will be as a result of the battle with the Night King, while Cersei will die in Kings Landing.

Interestingly enough, the thread indicates that Cerseis death will not in fact follow the prophecy she received years before, as she wont be killed by the Valonqar, or little brother, exactly.

In the thread, she will die alongside her twin/former lover Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) due to Wildfire, and it will be from a cache that Jaime himself lit.

In addition, earlier warning that Season 8 would be a bloodbath certainly ring true. If the thread is correct, the only remaining main characters will be Daenerys, Tyrion, Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Arya (Maisie Williams).

Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO in 2019.

Niece Tries To Visit But They Don't Answer.

When Door Is Finally Open She Can't Believe Her Eyes

All love is special, but there are some romances that truly seem as if they were taken right

out of a fairytale.

That was just how Larry and Sharon Corsini's love story was.

The pair first met in 1962 when Sharon was working selling tickets at a movie theater

in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Larry stopped by one night and caught Sharon's eye, as well as her heart.

The two were married that same year.

For the 54 years they were together, one word has defined their relationship for their three

kids, 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren – togetherness.

The love they had for each other and for others was evident and touched the lives of everyone

who came in contact with them.

But as time wears on, our bodies wear out.

Sharon, 74, had been battling several chronic issues and had just been in the emergency

room with kidney failure.

After receiving a blood transfusion and regaining her strength, she returned home with her husband.

Knowing her aunt was back home convalescing, the couple's niece came to visit and to

see how Sharon was doing.

When she knocked on the door, though, no one answered.

Concerned, she called 911, and when EMTs arrived and opened the door they couldn't believe

what they found – Larry and Sharon were laying side by side on their bedroom floor,

Larry's head on his wife's shoulder.

They were both gone.

The family will probably never know exactly what happened, but they believe Sharon fell

out of bed in the middle of the night and Larry got up to help her.

In the process of getting over to her, he fell and gashed his head on the nightstand

and suffered a massive heart attack.

While the family is still reeling from losing both Larry and Sharon on the same day, they

know that neither one of them would have ever wanted to live without the other.

"We know neither wanted to go alone," their son, also named Larry, said.

"They were always together in everything they did.

They were together in this life for 54 years and now together in passing."

The family decided to hold a joint funeral for the couple and, as sad as they were, they

cherished the time they had to all be together.

While the family has always been close, Larry and Sharon's passing has encouraged them

to really make every moment count and take nothing for granted.

"My sisters and I talked about how important it is to live each day and not take life for

granted.

To be in touch with parents.

To make phone calls.

To visit," the younger Larry said.

When asked what he would like others to take away from his parents' life and death, Larry

said, "My parents were all about service.

They were quiet, but they loved people by serving people.

And they did it all together.

We should all do that."

Were you touched by this couple's sad and sweet love story?

- What's better than... - If you fail...

What is better than playing Kendama in Japan?

Failed.

This is the most basic move, you know?

You will confirm...

You see this?

These are the ones that ate the map.

Then...

See this?

This is called Kendama.

And if you noticed...

- The other side. - Oh, sorry.

- Take it out? Or just film it? - Take it out.

I already have one. From a friend I knew in Taiwan, gave it to me. And...

- What's better than... - If you fail...

What is better than playing Kendama in Japan?

Failed.

This is the most basic move, you know?

You will confirm...

She didn't know...

- It's wide-angled. - Hey... just upload this.

Just upload this.

It's all on camera.

I'm shocked, really shocked.

Okay, so ladies and gentlemen. Let's head on to the shrines and temples.

I still think it's funny.

Hey, it's Japanese style ice cream!

It's very popular in Miyajima!

- We'll have to eat this then. - What? - This one.

- What? - Ice cream, ice cream.

- I want one. - It's very popular at Miyajima.

- I need to eat something. - If it's popular in Miyajima...

- Then we must eat it. - We definitely have to just, rest first, we'll go see the shrines first.

Okay, let's get some, let's get some okay? Wait, wait.

- Which one do you want? - I want the...

But this is red bean though. You won't like it.

- F*** it, if he says it's good then I'm trying it. - Are you sure?

Check it out, it looks like this.

Is this real?

- I want the matcha flavor. - Matcha? If you're getting that I'm getting the cherry flavor.

- The chocolate one looks boring, we had tons of chocolate ice creams yesterday. - Yeah.

- And the picture shows matcha, okay. - Obama president likes green tea very much.

- Likes green tea ice cream. - How does he know that?

He has to cite the source.

Hey, there's a Hiroshima Cola.

- It's good. - You can try it.

Drink it, I'll support you.

Whoa, he's taking his own sweet time.

- Do you want this? - Yeah.

Hi, one green tea and one cherry.

Green tea and cherry.

Is it a stick or?

- We are sitting here bro, I've already put our stuff there. - Sorry...

Buy this slipper back home.

What?

Do you know how much is it?

- 2000 Yen. - How much is the bottom one?

Pass it to me I want to feel it.

Is it...

It's too damn small...

Get a bigger one, this one, this one.

Get the ice cream first...

Very popular at Miyajima! Japanese style ice cream.

- And what If I say 캄사 함니다 to him? - You're crazy.

Thank you!

ありがと.

Okay...

We just bought this...

What is this even called?

Wafer cake filled with luxury ice cream and bean jam.

I have vanilla and green tea... huh?!

I'm... I'm confused, so confused.

So this is what they say you see...

It's very popular at Miyajima.

Japanese style ice cream.

So what is this ice cream? It is called the wafer cake filled with luxury...

And it's in capital letter.

Ice cream and bean jam.

I have vanilla and green tea.

I don't get it.

Okay, so mine is bean jam, red bean jam, red bean paste. With cherry.

It's cherry, not strawberry.

- And yours? - Then mine is the green tea, matcha, and red bean paste.

Yeah man, so...

- Shall we? - You can try it first. - Alright.

- Can you hear that? It's crispy. - Very crispy.

- Is it good? - It's good! - Show them how it looks like inside.

Whoa, I love green tea.

This doesn't taste like those lousy wafers at all.

- It's so crispy! - Nice right?

Whoa, it's good. Whoa...

One for 300 Yen?

Whoa f***ing s***!

If you sell this in Singapore...

You're a king.

You can take a look at the wafer, it is the Otorii Gate.

Right over there, and...

- Let me try and bite it. - Really? I didn't even notice it.

You're dumb.

This is really cherry.

It's totally not strawberry.

You took a big bite.

I don't like this kind of cherry.

I love those red ones.

Of course, it's red, what color can it be?

- I prefer the other kind of cherry, I like the snow cherries. - What are snow cherries? - Those that are deep red.

- The ones without pits, I love those. - I'm sorry, all cherries have pits, how else is it gonna grow?

- Normally cherries don't have pits. - It's already taken out!

So this is called the Ice Monaka.

Yes.

I've never tried ice cream with such flavor.

It's my first time trying out such special flavor, felt like he put a lot of effort into making the ice cream.

- Or actually he just bought it somewhere else. - Bulls***.

- I want one more, one more wafer. - One more?

- Go get one more then. - How much is 300 Yen?

About 3 dollars.

About $3.50.

Let's go, man!

After having the awesome ice cream that the...

Obama liked the green tea one.

Very best.

If I try it like a few times...

I might not, I might just sleep here in Miyajima.

Because cannot go back, you know? Understand?

No money...

Let's go.

- Apparently this side of the... - Is it closed? There's no one. Oh, it's still opened.

Apparently, this site is supposed to be filled with water.

- But then... - Because, now it's like, spring. - Yeah, so everything just washed back.

Washed back?

Sucked back.

Retreat.

Welcome to Miyajima!

This tree...

Is from the year...

1174.

White River (白河), Went (去), Emperor (皇).

Went (去)? It's Act. (法).

Oh, my god, your Mandarin sucks. And I thought I'm lousier than you.

I thought it's some kind of Japanese writing.

- Like this one. - You read it wrong. - No, it's like this one with the strokes.

You get what I mean?

I will return to Taiwan and work hard on my Mandarin. I'm so sorry teacher.

So anyway, this is the very very old, thousand years old tree.

A temple that looks quite like our Chinese traditional temples.

- And you have all the cherry blossoms. - Looks like a pagoda. - The pagoda feel. (It is a pagoda.)

Let's go.

So yeah, this is a temple that we cannot go in.

Or is it closed?

A lot of the stuff here closed damn early, so you better come earlier.

If not you'll be like us.

It's only 100 Yen.

But 100 Yen just to see this.

I'm confused. I'm really confused here in Japan.

Come closer, come closer.

I'm so...

I'm so confused, as to why they built bridges they aren't gonna cross?

You see it's blocked.

I don't know why...

WHY U.S MADE AEGIS ASHORE MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEMS CAN HELP JAPAN? - Duration: 7:53.

Japan is set to expand its ballistic missile defense capabilities with Japanese Prime Minister

Shinzo Abe's Cabinet approving the procurement of two land-based Aegis Ashore missile defense

systems on December 19.

The two Aegis Ashore batteries, the land-based variant of the Aegis combat system, will strengthen

Japanese defenses against China's and North Korea's growing ballistic and cruise missile

arsenals.

The government plans to deploy the two batteries by 2023 but has yet to make a decision on

the locations of the new missile defense systems.

This is in response to North Korea's nuclear and missile development programs that pose

a particular threat to Japan's national security.

Japanese Minister of Defense Itsunori Onodera told reporters in Tokyo , "North Korea's

nuclear missile development poses a new level of threat to Japan and as we have done in

the past we will ensure that we are able to defend ourselves with a drastic improvement

in ballistic missile defense".

The cost for the 2 Aegis Ashore missile defense systems could exceed $2 billion.

Onodera added: "We cannot say what the final costs will be, but we will move ahead to introduce

Aegis Ashore on the fastest possible schedule, given public calls that the government should

deal as swiftly and urgently as possible with the ballistic missile defense issue".

In this video, Defense Updates analyses WHY U.S MADE AEGIS ASHORE MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEMS

CAN HELP JAPAN DEFEND AGAINST NORTH KOREAN MISSILES?

This year has been an extraordinary year for North Korea.

It finally achieved regime's dream going back decades: establishing direct nuclear

deterrence with the United States, it already had missile capable of targeting Japan.

Despite sanctions, North Korea pushed on and became the first rogue state to acquire a

functional nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile as well as a powerful nuke.

Japan is a pacifist country - at least according to its constitution.

Article 9, introduced under the occupying forces after the Second World War, seems unequivocal:

"The Japanese people forever renounce war and the threat or use of force."

But new laws introduced by conservative Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will allow a broader interpretation

of what the constitution does, and does not, permit - so-called " proactive pacifism".

Japan's stance is slowing changing to meet keeping in view the ever increasing threats

from North Korea and up-to some extent from China.

The Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System is a United States Department of Defense (DoD),

Missile Defense Agency program developed to provide missile defense against short to intermediate-range

ballistic missiles.

Aegis BMD is designed to intercept ballistic missiles post-boost phase and prior to reentry.

It enables Aegis equipped vessels like Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers to shoot down enemy

ballistic missiles by expanding the Aegis Combat System with the addition of the AN/SPY-1

radar and Standard missile technologies.

Aegis Ashore, is the land variant of the system.

Basic concept and technology remains same,it is only that it deployed as missile defense

site, instead of being deployed in surface vessels.

The first site to be declared operational was in Romania in 2016.

The Japanese government concluded in an in-depth study earlier this year that the Aegis Ashore

system is more cost effective for missile defense than THAAD.

The heart of the AEGIS systems is an automatic detect and track, multifunctional phased-array

radar, the AN/SPY-1.

This high-powered 4 MW radar is able to perform search, track and missile guidance functions

simultaneously with a capability of over 100 targets.

A conventional, mechanically rotating radar "sees" a target when the radar beam strikes

that target once during each 360-degree rotation of the antenna.

A separate tracking radar is then required to engage each target.

By contrast, the computer-controlled AN/SPY-1A Phased Array Radar of the AEGIS system brings

these functions together within one system.

The phased array can concentrate energy where it is needed.

The operator can boost the range and resolution in a particular direction without blinding

the ship to threats from another side.

The 4 fixed arrays of "SPY" send out beams of electromagnetic energy in all directions

simultaneously, continuously providing a search and tracking capability for hundreds of target

at the same time.

This radar is expected to track enemy aircrafts from as far as 300 km.

The Aegis Ashore batteries will be armed with SM-6 interceptors and SM-3 Block IIA interceptors.

Manufactured by U.S. defense contractor Raytheon, SM-6 is a supersonic Mach 3.5+ missile interceptor

with an estimated range of over 180 miles or 289 kilometers.

The SM-3 Block IIA has been under joint development by Raytheon and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

since 2006.

It is designed to destroy short-to intermediate-range ballistic missile threats.

SM-3 Block IIA interceptors have extended range of 2,500 km or 1,350 miles.

The Aegis Ashore sites would supplement Patriot batteries capable of engaging short- and medium-range

ballistic missiles in their terminal phase and Aegis-equipped guided-missile destroyers,

of which the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) currently operates four, a number

that is expected to increase to eight in the future.

If the system operated as promised, sensors would track incoming missiles throughout their

launch and flight and would be able to take them out in the sky with the interceptor missile.

The concept is similar to hitting a bullet with another bullet and is very complicated.

Test results outcomes have been mixed, with some success.

In order for either SM-6 interceptors and SM-3 Block IIA missile to intercept a North

Korean ballistic missile, the Aegis combat system would have to start tracking the missile

in its ascent phase and launch interceptors before it overflies the Aegis ashore site.

This all depends on the early detection of the missile.

Early detection also enables multiple shots for each incoming missile , that increases

the probability of successful intercept.

WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN JAPAN? Ask Foreigners in Japan what got them into Japanese culture. - Duration: 7:43.

- Which kind of martial arts do you do? - Kendo.

It's something that is present in my everyday diet.

So yeah, I was very excited to come here.

And photos of my friends on Instagram, that I definitely want to visit.

Hey guys, it's Cathy Cat. And today we are going to ask foreigners

who have come to japan

what actually got them so much into Japanese culture

that now decided to actually come here.

Let's go and Ask foreigners in Japan!

- What was the first thing that got you into Japan? - It were the games...

- The gaming industry mostly. - It was the gaming culture overall.

And we most of all, before we met each other,

we both said that we always wanted to go to Japan.

So when we met each other we said, let's just go.

So we just committed to it. It was good!

When did you started seeing the first things of Japan? How old were you?

Ages ago. Like, I was a kid and I always wanted to go cause it all

looked so lit up and magical.

It's all the stereotypes. Like the neons and all the signs.

It kind of enjoys you.

What was the game got you into Japan?

Was it Zelda, or was it something else?

Or was it more like a combination?

Super Mario maybe... Typically and technically Nintendo stuff.

We passed the Nintendo building in Kyoto and I was like, "oh, my god!".

I'm going to sound like an idiot, but the Sega is traditionally Japanese, isn't it?

- It is, yes! - I love Sonic. It's the first game I've ever played really.

All that. Nintendo and Sonic.

From when I was a child... Probably from video games.

And also from the language.

- I do martial arts and I also study Japanese. - Right!

- Which kind of martial arts do you do? - Kendo.

Same here. When I was a child I liked to watch TV (anime) and play video games.

And I really like the sound of the language.

Like, the way you write the symbols.

And in general I like foreign cultures.

Anything you like about the Japanese culture in particular?

The fashion! I think I love the fashion and the make-up.

I think games, straight from the start. I always played with my family

when I was small. It was a family thing.

So it gave me a feeling connected with Japan.

- And your favourite game as a child? - Legend of Zelda.

I can't really say. I don't really remember.

I always kind of liked it and it just developed.

So there was always something that was added to my interests.

At first I didn't knew it was Japanese when I first played video games

but I always kind of happened to grab Japanese games.

Your very first favourite Japanese game?

My very first favourite... I think Kingdom Hearts. I really love Kingdom Hearts.

I think the food i s first. And the manga and things like that.

- For myself the tea, for example. And all the pottery.

- So more the traditional Japanese crafts?

In a way, yes. To drink tea from special glasses and cups from Japan.

Manga and tea.

The difference between traditionalism and modernism.

It's a big clash right? We are standing right in the centre of modernism.

Yes. For example, between the old castle in the other part of Tokyo

Food and shopping!

I'm from Peru and there are a lot of Japanese people in my country.

So I always wanted to visit Japan.

I went for a work trip to Australia and thought that this would be a perfect

timing to visit Japan.

So I'm very excited to be here.

Because it had such a large influence. Like in anime...

I grew up with watching Dragonball for example.

And I also love sushi.

It's something that is present in my everyday diet.

So yeah, I was very excited to come here.

Since she coming too, we decided to come together.

So that's it. I've never been to Asia before and I wanted to see Japan first.

- So you just got curious by her. - Yeah!

How did you then, in country back home, in the USA...

What's the first thing that got you in touch with Japanese culture?

Was it food, samurai, anything...

Probably the sushi. Its the food that is the easiest thing.

And I live in New York, which is very multicultural

so there are a lot of different restaurants.

And you eat a lot of different types of food.

And I think that Japanese food and Teppanyaki and the grill..

You know, there are all different kinds of cool foodie thingies.

Food, definitely food! And culture.

- Way of living... I don't know, everting! Technology.

- And anime and manga too!

- Dragonball. - Don't be shy, be proud of it!

Anime and manga is important for the subculture here.

We came here not just sightseeing, but also for the food,

the culture and the people.

Just for everything!

Technology. Just everything.

It's feels like we're from light years ago, so for us this is beautiful.

Yeah, it feels like we have arrived here in the future.

Everywhere you go.

Were we come from, it's very different. It's a very different way of living.

So this is cool!

We came for the snow, together with our aunt and uncle

so that was amazing. And eating all the different foods. That was sooo good!

We are loving the sushi. And the ramen is so good on a cold day.

- Yeah, it's amazing! - Right!

Before you came here for the first time,

what was the first exposure you've got with Japanese culture?

Probably sushi.

And photos of my friends on Instagram, that I definitely want to visit.

I did a bit of Japanese in the third year of school.

But I can't really remember much apart from "konnichiwa" and "sayonara".

- Oh great! So you're first exposure was Japanese class? - Yeah.

But it was at primary school so I don't remember much.

I'm actually interested in the cars and such.

I compete in drifting and it's quite big over here.

So that kind of brought me here. But also the culture.

Because it's so different from what we have back home.

Okay, explain to me what you just said. W- what, drifting...? What's that?

Drifting is like sliding a car around corners

around on a race track.

It's very popular here in Japan.

Well, it started here in Japan and spread itself all over the world.

So I wanted to come here to see where it all started.

Fast & the Furious?

- Sort of like that, yes. - Exactly!

- Shibuya crossing! - Yeah, exactly.

- That's here! - Exactly.

I grew up in Hong Hong, so the Asian aspects are really familiar to me.

I was happy when he said he wanted to come here. And so I said yes.

And for him its also the car-thing.

Was the car- thing the first thing that got you in touch with Japanese culture,

or was there anything before when you were younger?

I probably was the cars. I did also watch some anime and such.

So that kind of got me in it as well.

And I think because the culture is so different from what we have...

It's just nice to go somewhere that is a bit out of your comfort zone.

It's fun.

Thank you so much!

So we had the general things.

The pop- culture. Anime, manga, gaming. Jpop, those kind of things.

The things that everyone loved from the pop- culture.

But many people also mentioned the food!

And they had a good point there, because Japanese food is absolutely amazing!

And you'll be able to taste flavours you've never tried before.

So what initially got you into the Japanese culture?

I'm curious to find out!

So, leave us a message down below. Looking forward to reading it.

And, catch you soon on Ask Japanese!

Japan, South Korea may refit naval ships for F-35 fighters

Correction: This story has been updated to fix an inaccurate count of Japan's and South Korea's warship inventory.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Amid growing tensions in the region, both Japan and South Korea are reportedly investigating options to operate the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter on board their respective ships.

Quoting reports from unnamed military sources in their respective countries, Japan's Kyodo news agency and South Korea's Yonhap said that the short take-off vertical landing, or STOVL F-35B variant is being considered for operations from Japan's Izumo-class DDH helicopter destroyer and South Korea's Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship, turning them into combat-capable aircraft carriers.

Kyodo's also reported that the F-35Bs could be used to defend Japan's far flung southwestern islands, which lack long runways needed for conventional fighter jets to operate.

That strategy is being considered in response to North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear capabilities, as well as China's rapid military modernization, Asked about the reports at a media conference on Tuesday, Japanese defense minister Itsunori Onodera repeatedly denied any plans to modify the Izumo-class to operate F-35Bs, only going as far as saying the ministry is constantly "conducting various studies evaluating Japan's defense capability." Modification of the ships to operate the F-35B will enhance flexibility and expand the range of missions, with Yonhap quoting a source as saying that the South Korean military is looking at "maximizing the strategic value of the vessel's capabilities." The ships can carry several helicopters during normal operations, with the Izumo and Dokdo class designed to carry a maximum of 14 and 10 helicopters respectively.

Both ship classes will however need to be modified extensively internally and externally to operate the F-35B, including the application of a thermally protective coating on areas of the flight deck to withstand hot exhaust gases during F-35B vertical landings, and possibly even reshaping the flight deck to allow rolling takeoffs.

They will also need to have the ammunition magazines hardened and enlarged to accommodate the F-35B's weapons, while aviation fuel storage facilities will also likely need to be expanded to account for higher fuel consumption compared to helicopters.

Reuters has suggested that a ski-jump may be fitted to the Izumo as part of any modification program for the F-35B, however with the Izumo-class being 248 meters long and the Dokdo 199 meters, both already have flight decks long enough for the F-35B to carry out rolling takeoffs — no ski-jump needed.

Japan has two Izumo-class helicopter destroyers in service, while South Korea has one Dokdo-class ship in service with another being built.

The two countries are also operators of the F-35A conventional take off and landing version, with Japan and South Korea having 42 and 40 F-35As on order respectively.

The possession of aircraft carriers by Japan will be a significant shift in its defense posture and is likely to be a contentious issue, with critics likely to point to Japan's pacifist constitution banning the country from acquiring what is referred to as "war potential." But Corey Wallace, an Einstein postdoctoral fellow in the Graduate School of East Asian Studies at Berlin's Freie Universitat wrote in the East Asia Forum that Japan's constitution does not explicitly ban specific capabilities — offensive or otherwise.

Rather, its government interprets 'war potential' as referring to the total strength of Japan's Self-Defence Forces relative to potential threats and international conditions, and not whether a given capability is mostly offensive or defensive.
