- The New South Wales Department of Education

is quite a unique jurisdiction.

We're the second largest in the world, outside of New York.

We serve over 800,000 students in 2,250 schools.

And with that, obviously, comes a variety of technical issues

with regards to just the scope and size.

- The amount of Windows devices we are using for our students and teachers

is in excess of 360,000.

So, Microsoft has really helped us leveraging affordability

when it comes to putting devices into the students' hands.

Intune's changing the way we work.

We can deploy applications through Intune quite seamlessly and easily

without having to be restricted by some of the scale issues we have.

I think Microsoft has really helped us come out of the darker days of IT.

We no longer have to reinvent the wheel.

- Our team is very active on Microsoft Teams.

We need to save teachers time in their admin.

Instead of having a meeting,

they'll put all of the information they need on Teams

and they're buying that time back.

And for every minute, every hour that you buy back

for a teacher or a leader in a school,

that's buying time back

to thinking about teaching and learning

for the students of that school.

- The vision for students in New South Wales

is to provide and prepare students for the future.

Getting that base level competency up first

opens up the opportunities for all students.

- Coding is actually a mandatory component

of some of the syllabus documents now in New South Wales' schools,

so it has to be taught; it's non-negotiable.

When students know that learning is going to be interesting,

engaging, relevant for what they're about to do,

they'll come to school.

- We had set up an educational showcase

and students were engaging with robots

and 3D printing and using Microsoft Builder to design prosthetics

for veterans and other students with disabilities.

- Work that is developed through OneNote,

through Office 365, it allows students to move at their own pace.

It allows students that are very gifted to go further.

It allows students that need assistive technologies

to be able to use those technologies in a meaningful way.

If you're not giving your students those assistive technologies,

or the ability to move at their own pace,

or find their own learning journey, what are you providing them?

- I think Microsoft have got their eye on the future

in terms of where they go with their development.

They are focusing on the education process

rather than the technology for technology's sake.

Carillon and General Education 2019 - Duration: 3:19.

Let's take a look at how Carillon Community courses relate to your University of Maryland

degree.

Before you graduate, you'll need to complete 120 credits.

That breaks down to about 15 credits each semester.

You'll work with an advisor to help you choose your courses.

You'll want to include courses that are required for your intended major AND General

Education.

Each major will have different course requirements.

You can get an idea about these by going to 4yearplans.umd.edu.

For this example, we will use the advising form for Letters and Sciences.

You should use the form appropriate to your major.

On this form for Letters and Sciences, you can outline your first four semesters.

Let's consider that you'd like to be a biology major, but you're also considering

community health.

To get ready for the fall, first select your major courses.

Math140, Bsci170, Bsci171.

These courses are required for the biology and the community health majors.

Next, think about general education.

These are required for all students.

You will have choices in the general education courses you take, but you must complete all

the categories.

For example, Fundamental Studies includes Oral Communication; and the category Distributive

Studies includes natural sciences, history and social sciences, humanities, and two unique

categories called Scholarship in Practice and I-Series.

Carillon can help you get your general education courses.

For example, if you choose the Freedom Fighting Carillon Community, your history course, HIST132,

will satisfy one I-Series and your History and Social Sciences requirement.

Also, as part of Carillon Communities, you will take a Carillon Studio course for 1 credit.

This will help you get to that 15 credits for the first semester.

Now let's look at what you've completed in this first semester with respect to General

Education.

Through your major requirements, you've completed the Fundamental Studies: Math, and

a Natural Science with Lab.

You've selected an Oral Communication course.

Through your Carillon course, you've completed a History and Social Sciences and I-Series

requirement.

This is with the Freedom Fighting community.

There are 10 communities in Carillon, and you can choose the one that interests you.

If you choose Art and Activism, the Carillon course for the fall is ARTH260.

It satisfies I-Series and Humanities.

To determine the Gen Ed category for a Carillon Community course, refer to the specific Carillon

Community webpage.

2019 Nonrecurring Request #3: Research and Education Center Graduate School Housing - $4M - Duration: 1:07.

(piano music)

The Research and Education Centers exist to work on the - on solutions for the

problems of the citizens of South Carolina.

And in that, we need all the hands we can have and so, and all the minds that can come

together.

When we don't have the ability to house students at the RECs, that limits the ability to involve

more students and better students in our projects.

And having the ability to host either groups from other universities, people from other

states, visiting scientists from other - from other countries even - will completely open

our laboratories and open our RECs to many more collaborations, many more possibilities.

(Graphic appears on screen while b-roll of students plays behind it. It reads: Research and Education Center Graduate School Housing $4M.

The requested funding would allow Clemson PSA to house talented and accomplished graduate students and visiting

scientists at its Research and Education Centers and fulfill its mission to conduct research

aimed at keeping South Carolina farmers globally competitive.

Invest in Clemson.

Top Quality Education.

Prepared Work Force.

A Strong Economy.

For a strong South Carolina.)
