North Dakota United Education Support Professional of the Year Denbea McNally - Duration: 2:59.
"I think the best part of my job is seeing those kids go home with a happy smile and
know that they succeeded for the day," says North Dakota United's Education Support
Professional of the Year Denbea McNally.
Those are the words of Denbea McNally, North Dakota United's Education Support Professional
of the Year.
But don't be fooled.
A lot happens during the day to help those kids go home with smiles.
And Denbea's a big part of it.
If you aren't familiar with the works para's do in schools and classrooms all over the
state, listen to a portion of McNally's work day.
"This year I'm a one on one the last two years I traveled from a kindergarten class
to a first-grade class to third-grade class to a fifth-grade class I mean I think I had
thirteen alarms on my phone so I knew exactly where I needed to be because I traveled throughout
the school.
This year I happen to be a one on one with this certain child which is wonderful,"
McNally said.
McNally hasn't even mentioned helping kids get on the bus, lunch duty, gym, or recess
with all 110 kindergartners.
She did mention working one on one.
This year, she's a para in Amy Neal's kindergarten class at Lewis and Clark Elementary
working with Noah.
Each day comes with its challenges, failures, and successes.
"And knowing that he's succeeding and the love that he shows you and the love that
you can give back is just so rewarding and priceless it's just words….I say you can't
explain it in words it's just it really is emotional some days because you go home
and say it was a great day.
Today was a great day," McNally said.
Neal, the 20 North Dakota Teacher of the Year, says para-professionals teach things like
social skills and acceptance.
The most important thing they do???
"They allow the teacher, which would be myself, to pull off a full lesson.
If there is a child in the classroom that needs particular help because of a special
need, or if there are multiple kids that may need some little interventions that para is
allowing me to fulfill the needs of the other students and my lesson continues and they
continue learning," says Amy Neal.
McNally, who says she wondered what she was getting herself into at the start of her para
career, now says she can't imagine doing anything else.
"I think the best day at work is when those kids come and give you a hug and they're
like I can't wait to see you tomorrow Miss McNally or if you're gone for the day and
you come back the next day they're like oh we missed you Miss McNally, we missed you
Miss Denbea.
Just knowing that you make there day is like the only word that you need at school is just
knowing you're coming here for those kids and they look forward to seeing you because
you just don't know what you're going to get," says McNally.
At Lewis and Clark Elementary in Minot, Tom Gerhardt, North Dakota United Communications.

Brian Murray: Why Education Matters in choosing your realtor - Duration: 3:36.
- Hi, this is Brian Murray,
the educated realtor educated for you.
I've worked with a lot of buyers over the past 17 years
and they all seem to have
some of the same types of questions
and they fall into the same traps.
My goal is to educate you as a buyer
to avoid some of those pitfalls.
Here are the top three mistakes first time homebuyers make.
The number three, and we're gonna work backwards,
the number three mistake that first time homebuyers make
is choosing the wrong mortgage.
Everybody talks about the 30 year fixed.
When everybody asks what's the interest rate,
they're talking about the 30 year fixed rate.
People kind of get caught up in
how's that moving up or down.
The fact is, if you're buying a condo
in Hoboken or Jersey City,
and especially if you're a first time homebuyer,
you're really looking at some timeframe
much less than 30 years.
You're likely to be in a property five to seven years
before you sell that home, move up to a bigger home,
move out to the suburbs, take a job transfer, or refinance.
But the 30 year fixed will cost you more money
and an ARM or an adjustable rate mortgage
will likely be a cheaper option for you.
The second biggest mistake of homebuyers
is trying to time the market.
If you're renting right now,
you're likely a first time homebuyer
and you're trying to time the lease
to end so that you don't have to pay double rent
or a rent here and a mortgage there.
This is a catastrophic mistake
because you can almost never time the market.
Even when you think you've got it all set up,
something gets delayed on one end
and the likelihood you're homeless goes up.
Or you end up paying for it in some other way
with putting your stuff in storage,
living at your parents', living at a hotel.
Please, just budget for the fact
that, whenever you're moving out of your lease,
you're breaking your lease.
Usually, it's about a month that you have to pay.
And the biggest mistake a first time homebuyer makes
is choosing the wrong realtor.
The realtor is really the hub of the wheel.
I connect all of the other pieces.
You're not choosing a realtor
to be able to open a door for you and show you a home.
This is not sweater shopping.
This is a very complicated and an emotional transaction.
The realtor is the quarterback.
Your realtor should have local market knowledge
of home values, local home trends,
how to win multiple bid situaitons,
and how to negotiate to get you the home
for the least amount of money.
Once the price is agreed upon,
the right realtor quarterbacks all the various aspects
and providers from your lender to your attorney
to your home inspector to the title company
and any of the other contractors that you might engage with.
The right realtor works to make sure
all of these folks work together to meet the end goal,
which is getting you the home.
The right realtor is one that brings skill.
I bring 17 years of skill
in helping first time homebuyers purchase homes
in Hoboken, Jersey City, and surrounding areas.
I know the attorneys and mortgage people
that get the deals done.
I know the other agents that are reputable.
I know all the little nuances
that could possibly stop your deal from going through
and stop you from getting the home you love and want.
And that's what the realtor does.
Home buying is a very emotional process.
It's a difficult process sometimes
and it doesn't need to be made more difficult
by having an inexperienced realtor
or one that's not communicative.
Most importantly, the right realtor
is about creating raving fans.
How do you know if you found the right realtor?
It's the person who's more concerned
about getting you what you want than cashing a paycheck.

Kiel Technology Education STEAM profile - Duration: 2:29.
- Hi I'm Ethan.
- I'm Logan. - I'm Elijah.
- [All] And this is our Kiel High School experience.
(buzzing)
- Technology education here (pause) at Kiel encompasses
everything from graphics and screen printing on T-shirts
to carpentry, you touch on some machining
and welding and fabrication.
- Some of the machinery that we get to use are
the CNC Router, the router, the bandsaw and the miter saw
and a bunch of other cool machines.
(buzzing)
- I feel that I'm better in the hands on environment
because it lets me see how things are going to work
instead of just how they should work.
- I enjoy the work here that we do through our school
with the metals especially because that's something
that I like to do is the metals
and figuring out different designs
and how things are put together through variation of shapes.
- We continually build.
We have two levels in each of the areas that we teach
and then we open up for independent studies
and or look at youth options, youth apprenticeship,
those types of things to get kids into the workforce,
into ready for the work world.
- I think Tech-Ed helps me in other classes
because it really drives my critical thinking.
You know, how is this gonna go together here,
what am I going to have to do to
throw this weld there or drill that hole, you know?
- You have to plan before you do something.
You can't just go and do it
'cause it'll never turn out the way you want it.
You have to plan, you have to set measurements, blueprints,
you got to draw it out, you got to create it.
It takes some practice, some experience and skill to a point
but over time you build that up, the more classes you take.
- These programs are valuable
because it teaches the students some entry level skills
and gets them interested in the careers that are out there
and a lot of the careers in the technical areas
are high paying jobs.
- Trades are needed right now, I know that,
in the job field.
You will get a job right out of high school
if you want to go into trades.
(slow buildup music)
