Educating The Digital Generation - A Different Lens - Duration: 10:35.

- This fourth industrial revolution that we're going through

really means a fundamental change to how we educate,

how we communicate with people, and how we prepare people

for the future.

(percussive music)

- [Offscreen Voice] Rolling and mark when ready.

- I feel like being born in this world of technology,

so that I think a world without it is just inconceivable.

- I sort of just can't imagine what life would be like

without a laptop.

- There's online, like 3-D models of anatomy,

and I like to use that more than the textbook,

so I think I choose what suits my learning style.

- When I spoke to my mum, like she went to uni,

that was always just lectures, that if you didn't go,

you were, like, screwed for the exams,

and so that was all she had to do,

just go in for lectures and that was about it,

whereas now it's like completely different.

(cymbal crashes)

- When I first started teaching,

I think students still believed that the person

that stood in front of them had all the answers.

If only they paid attention closely enough,

they too would have the answers.

(percussive music)

I look now, and you look at the ways that students

are so much more capable and able of figuring out

not only what the answers are, but what are

the more important questions that we should be asking,

and I think teaching and learning is undergoing a revolution

to catch up with that.

- Technology is very important in my learning.

I use it for my lectures, for my workshops,

to complete my assignments, to complete everything I do,

I have to use technology.

Yeah, even to communicate with my friends

in my classes, see how they're going

and see what they've done.

- We really need to think about how high quality technology

optimises the outcomes of educational process.

(percussive music)

Without that, we can really fall

into the technological determinist camp

or retreat into the world which banishes technology

and glorifies the kind of authentic,

quasi-pedagogical experience of the past.

I really think that the truth is somewhere in the middle.

- It's no longer chalk and talk,

it's whole lot of different ways of technology,

but more importantly, there's a different sort of skillset

that we're trying to get people to understand.

(percussive music)

Students coming into universities now,

especially one like Monash, are really blown away

by the change to what they've previously experienced

at school and to what they expected of university.

They're coming into an environment where they're expected

to question a lot more, and where they are able

to use a lot of equipment in a different way.

(cymbal crash)

- Employers now are looking for people who are going

to think outside of the box, who are able to work

in a variety of different contexts with different people.

(electronic music)

Using different forms of digital technologies

not only enhances students' content knowledge,

but it also enhances a range of 21st Century skills,

like communication, collaboration, and teamwork.

- The research showed that students wanted to be able

to engage with each other as much as with the academic.

They certainly wanted to be able

to engage with that academic,

and have a personal relationship there,

but they also wanted to be able to engage with each other.

(electronic music)

We, as a university, had a look at the different spaces

that we had already on our campuses, and they were geared

towards lecturers delivering and students

just receiving information.

The qualitative findings from our research

when we prototyped the building, was students saying,

well now I can see everybody here.

Now I can interact and understand the learning.

We knew we had to do better with the learning spaces

that we had.

When you have people co-creating together,

that's when you have something, a spark

which everyone walks out and says I got something

out of that, even if I contributed a lot.

So we wanted the spaces to allow that.

- How can cancer cells arise, and could you,

at your tables, think about all the different types

of errors the cell could make.

- Kahoot is this competitive quiz technology,

so we do it in all our active learning sessions,

so you have a series of questions and everyone

has a Kahoot I.D. and the faster you get it right,

the more points you get.

I guess it brings competition into learning.

- These sessions, especially the consolidation ones

are interactive, and I find that that really helps

in my learning because instead of sitting there

and just passively learning, just having, being swamped

with content, you're sort of having to be involved

with it and explore different ideas.

- Everybody benefits with the feedback,

because if you can imagine a room full of 200, 240 students,

and we suddenly then have ideas from about three

or four or five different groups, everybody's seeing

what the academic values as the best in the room,

and we suddenly have something.

We're off, we're ready to go, and it's very exciting.

So we focus on the types of connections that students

are making with each other and with academics.

- I like discussing concepts and ideas with my professors,

tutors and classmates.

My favorite lecturers are the ones who are very interactive,

and interact with the audience.

- Neuroscience has helped us understand

a lot about learning.

We know now that your retention from a lecture

is about 5% to 10%, so it's really cheap way to do it,

once you've built the lecture theater

to put a whole lot of people in it,

but it's not in any way effective.

If they're actively learning, answering questions,

teaching each other, talking in class, problem solving,

doing quizzes, sharing stories, their retention goes up

to 60% to 70%.

Some students have reacted with quite a lot of caution

to the changes.

I've had a lot of meetings

with student groups expressing skepticism.

Students from particular cultural backgrounds

thought that this wasn't for them,

even before they tried.

But, once you give them them the evidence, firstly,

and explain why, and secondly, once you make clear

what is valued behavior in this environment,

our students adapt remarkably quickly.

- I guess in terms of technology I didn't really expect

that it would be so much.

I think it was a little bit overwhelming, at first,

how much there was online, but once you sort of get

into the swing of it, and get used to it,

it's actually really helpful, because you're able

to access more materials, and more of the content,

and, really help your learning, so I think

it is a good thing.

- I think there are two ways that as aducators

we can look at these educational technologies.

One is through the student lens,

and that's to not have any taken for granted assumptions

that, because students are using Facebook on mobile phones

on buses as part of their day to day lives,

that's automatically going to translate

into a capacity to be able to learn in online spaces.

I think that there is a very dangerous assumption

that those two things are one and the same.

The second part is for educators to understand the ways

in which technologies can be used in a variety

of different ways to represent content

that may be really difficult to do,

so that we don't have educators doing old things

in new ways.

We often talk about how students have been

impacted by technology, but spare a thought

for our academics.

Being an academic today means that you have

to continuously review the way in which you are engaging

in academic practice, and technology

is an integral part of that.

So we work very closely with academics

to ensure that they are always able to respond

to new technological opportunities and to make teaching

and engagement in the learning process better.

- Technology is central to education,

and it's really important for us to be able

to help to teach the academics how to use technology.

(electronic music)

One of the problems is that in all

of these higher education institutions

and other institutions and learning environments,

we tell someone for 20 or 30 years that their name

is a lecturer and they should lecture.

And they're very good at what they do because

of how well they lecture.

And then suddenly we turn around and we say,

well, actually we've done some research,

and lecturing might not be the best type

of teaching for every single situation.

That's a huge change management project there,

however, we're really fortunate,

we do have passionate academics.

- What's most important is we have to be open

to the changes that have already occurred.

We have to be open to the changes

that students who have already progressed

through school are coming to us with.

And I think that we've got to be really supporting mindsets

that are about extending all that we've ever known

about quality teaching and learning.

And asking what does that mean

for that changing world of work?

What does that mean for a digital economy?

What does that mean for the appetites

and dispositions of our students?

Our digital transformation journey: Empowering changemakers | Silvia Scurrachio - Duration: 16:25.

>> Our next changemaker is

a principal at Escola Bosque in Brazil.

Two years ago,

her school took on the challenge of undergoing

a digital transformation to provide

experiences to all of their students no matter what age.

Designing immersive, engaging learning

that prepared them for an unknown future.

Silvia, is here to share how

she supported her teachers and

how to provide principals everywhere

with the steps that she and her teachers took.

To build a school that supports the creation of

innovative minds who will transform the world.

But before we welcome Silvia to the stage,

let's begin with a video.

So, we can see inside

their school and the transformation process.

>> I'm so glad to be here all the way from Brazil.

As a school, we have excellent partners

and nice collaborative spaces.

Our digital transformation journey started two years ago.

It's not a long time but we are going fast.

The results are already impressive,

and I truly believe that

teachers are the real changemakers.

Anthony Salcito mentioned it last May during Bett Brazil.

"More than just technology,

we need motivated teachers."

He's totally right, because we

have to give teachers all the support they need.

My role as a school leader,

is to provide the best resources

and create strategies that

motivate and empower the team and

help them to have a growth oriented mindset.

Give them space and freedom to take risks,

to innovate, and the opportunity

to lead their way in teaching.

Our development, and deploying took four steps.

We started with a nice presentation

that we call it Enchantment Time.

The teachers we had were amazed about digital tools,

and how technology could improve

their teaching and learning processes.

Then we start to do professional

development for the teachers,

but there's one thing I'm pretty

sure made a huge difference.

We divided the groups based on

their prior technological skills to

give the beginners time to learn the basics.

As in many schools,

we had teachers with

different technological skill levels.

Then we started personalized learning.

We created a digital learning path and we

use it open spaces in teacher's agenda,

lunch breaks, every spare moment to help them.

Even asking them basic questions such as,

"What do you want to prepare for your next class?"

At this point, everybody with

a good technological knowledge help the teachers.

Our TE, IT, my Assistant, other teachers,

it was a task force. That worked really well.

Then continuing education.

We call it a Digital Transformation Journey because it's

a process and once we start, we never stop.

So, many new and amazing things to apply and to learn.

That's why we regularly

provide to the teachers workshops,

seminars, and we still have personalized sessions.

We also encourage them to use

the Microsoft Educator Community for courses, resources.

And many times they meet after

their work shift to take courses together.

And we have our own

PLC or Professional Learning Community

with our excellent partner Big Brain Education.

It's really rewarding and we're really happy

to see teachers' motivation,

and how they are proud of every achievement.

And we are so proud of them as well.

Today, all teachers are MIEs,

MIE Experts, Trainer, Master Trainer,

and our TE is also

a Minecraft Global Mentor and he went to the E2,

Education Exchange this year in

Singapore representing our school, and Brazil.

I'm sure it has been an amazing journey for the teachers.

They are learning a lot, sharing more,

and collaborating like never before. Check this video.

>> They are also communicating better,

and we save time in our regular meetings.

Our projects using Teams as a hub are going

further because all teachers collaborate.

Even teachers who come to school just

once or twice a week, like PE, arts, music.

They can follow everything

about the projects through Teams.

We have a student,

she's facing a severe illness at this time,

is not attending classes,

but she can follow everything using Teams.

And many times, she can watch the classes using Skype.

It's an amazing opportunity. And actually,

we have all lesson plans and programs

shared with me and the coordinators using Teams.

Today, all teachers are

applying technology in their classrooms,

especially Office 365. And

they are really doing an amazing job.

We have some examples,

because technology enhances

our multidisciplinary projects,

and since early education,

they are using digital tools.

We have an example like this Life Under the Sea project,

where four year-olds, using Paint 3D,

they draw and customize their own fish. And the teacher,

using PowerPoint, assembles all of them in

an animated aquarium with bubbles, music.

They like it so much.

They also painted a cardboard submarine

and went to a ride using VR glasses.

It was so cute.

Our five year-olds, they followed a butterfly life cycle,

a real one, in their classrooms.

By using Paint 3D in tech classes,

they logged every step of the transformation,

and they drew a beautiful collaborative garden

to welcome all the butterflies.

They were so proud of themselves.

It was really nice.

All projects integrate technology and digital tools,

no matter the subject or the content.

As an Eco-School, we are always

looking for ways to save natural resources,

and our students came up with a solution

to save water: a vertical cistern.

They started with a project using Paint 3D,

made calculations using Excel,

and we actually built the cistern that

holds 530 liters of water.

It's a lot. Thanks to Skype sessions,

we can share our projects with

our sister school in England, the Moreland Primary.

Using AI, the students created a chatbot about bullying,

where they can ask questions and get

answers on how to cope with bullying.

Minecraft, it's widely used,

and students love it.

Using the original school plan,

they recreated the entire school in Minecraft,

and it's so perfect. It's amazing.

Coding, mixed reality, cognitive services,

VR are also important resources but Skype...

Skype transforms our classroom in a global hub.

Students and teachers and even myself, I love it.

We love Skype sessions.

Hacking STEM, it's also amazing,

and the students are developing a project.

It's an experiment for a contest that we'll send

the best projects to International Space Station.

And many of the simulations,

they are using Minecraft Chemistry to check.

For sure, students are really more engaged,

motivated, because personalization, collaboration,

metacognitive awareness,

and inclusion are important technology features.

But the most important,

kids love technology and it makes learning more fun.

And we are sharing our projects and

digital transformation in many important events.

We have been hosting Microsoft Showcase School tours.

We already welcomed about 400 educators

from Brazil and abroad.

We presented at ISTE 2018 and many others.

It's really rewarding for everybody.

Now, our teachers, they have

a special message for all of you.

>> Hi, I'm Teacher Natalie,

and I am so proud to take part in

all these changes brought through

technology and innovative ideas.

Children are learning so much that we want to spread

this message to all the teachers

and educators around the world.

We have the power to change education because?

>> We are changemakers!

>> Thank you, Silvia.

>> Thank you.

>> That was amazing.

>> Thank you so much.

>> I know all of you that have principals like

Silvia feel the effect of

a supportive leader, who's there learning.

You learn alongside with your teachers,

and you go into their classroom and help them.

That's just amazing. So, thank you again.

>> Thank you so much.

>> All right. Silvia, again,

will join us at the end of our broadcast

as we do our live Q&A.

So if you have any questions for Silvia and

what she's doing at her school in Brazil,

feel free to put those in the comment box right now.

I wanted to show all of you school leaders out there,

we actually have a couple of courses just for you

on how to really get going with changing,

that whole transformation of your school,

and they're tied to

our Education Transformation Framework.

We have one course here that's

on building system-wide leadership

and change and understanding

the leadership and policy needs by addressing vision,

developing a change strategy,

planning of monitoring and evaluation,

and ensuring differentiation and access for all.

Our second course here is about really

focusing in on modern teaching and learning.

And in this series,

you'll learn how to develop leader and educator capacity,

how to build learning communities and support for staff,

ensuring that you're creating

inclusive learning environments and more!

How to Become a "Loved" Brand | Leading in Digital | Cognizant Belgium - Duration: 1:56.

Being a loved brand is what matters most to be successful for company's overtime.

Being a loved brand means so much more than just having a good product, service or price,

it's about having the best customer relationship.

How do you get the best customer relationship nowadays?

It's about knowing what your client really needs.

As Henry Ford said, we can not just ask our clients what they want.

So here you need deep market insights, and some creative thinking.

So think beyond your core offer, think beyond traditional industry boundaries and think

about customer experience.

The only limitation to this thinking, should be market dynamics, and economic reality.

Is it a nice idea, or will it really strengthen your customer relationship?

Take financial institutions for example.

People in businesses, don't need banks per se.

Today it's much more than just processing and holding your money.

Banks can become so much more relevant and impactful for clients, by leveraging on digital

and data.

We recently completed a strategic assessment for a bank, targeted at their small business

clients.

The objective of this study was to come up with ideas to make it more easy to bank with

them, to become more relevant and to generate additional non-banking revenues.

For an energy company we recently completed work to help them strengthen their customer

relationships.

By defining new products, new services and new experiences to help them go beyond gas

and electricity.

To ensure you build a loved brand and sustainable customer relationships, you will have to do

more than you most often do today, and have customer experience at the heart of your organization.

Creating Seamless Digital Patient Flow - Duration: 4:46.

Hi everyone, how are you going? Karen Finnin here. Look I just wanted to pop in today

and have a chat to you about patient flow in digital practice. This is

something that I've given heaps of thought to and I give on going thought to

with Online.Physio and that is 'What is the digital journey that the patient

goes on through the consultation process?' Now at the start this was really very

simple and a touch messy where I'd email back and forth, organize a time, jump on a

Skype call and then email a bit back and forth afterwards. That was sort of the

patient journey - they'd be backing and forthing, but over time I knew this had to

become more streamlined to make it more user friendly for the patient. We know

that with the more we do digitally these days the less friction we want when we

do things. If there's any stumbling blocks along the way patients are less

likely to continue the course and therefore have effective treatment

through an online consultation. So what I did recently was put together an actual

infographic to demonstrate our digital patient flow. Now keep in mind that this

is being built up over time, a number of years now, when you're just starting out

it's obviously much simpler than this just to get off the starting blocks but

what I want you to think about is how can it become more streamlined and

friction-free for the patient. It's really important that they know clearly

what's going to happen next and they're almost spoon fed through the process so

there's no worrying or wondering about when you're going to get back to them or

what happens next. So anyway I thought I'd show you mine and see if that might

give you some ideas of perhaps even a graphical representation that you can

create so that you're really clear on the digital flow that your patient takes

through your consultation experience, and therefore any ways that you can

streamline it and make it more friction-free for your patients. So let's

have a bit of a look. All right so this is our in-house graphical representation

of the journey that our patient takes through the consultation process. So

basically the first thing that happens on our website is that they select the

consultation type. As soon as they click on that button, they're presented with

their subjective assessment form. It's an intuitive form that leads them through a

series of questions and goes down certain pathways depending

what their answers are. As soon as they submit that form there's an automated

email that gets sent to them to confirm that the form has been received. Now from

this point there's a manual step here Once we've received a notification of the

consultation and assign it to a Physio that Physio will personally send that

that patient an email introducing themselves and asking any

extra questions that they may have generated from the subjective assessment

form. From that point the patient receives a link to complete the

simple objective tests, just a preliminary screening, and they'll be fed

through that form. At the bottom of that form is a link where they click to

schedule their video call. So we've collected a certain amount of

information before that occurs. Now automatically they then of course

receive a reminder for the video call and at the designated time the patient

attends that video call. Now from there we've got a templated report and that's

compiled into a summary for them and sent through to them with an action plan.

So that is sent through and then they receive their rehabilitation plan

through the app that we use, the exercise prescription app, from this point forward

the patient and the Physio continue to communicate and that is via secure

messaging within the exercise prescription app. That happens until such

time as the patient's access period has ended. So obviously we're very

flexible to make changes to this system if required but it's really important to

have this clear template of the process that the patient goes through. So there

you have it. I hope that's been interesting for you. I think it's really

good to have a written down patient flow so that from the patient's perspective

you're very aware of all the steps that occur in that process. From there you can

then have a look and see what of these steps or connections between steps can

become automated or automated triggers and what are the steps that need to

happen manually and are their triggers or reminders in place to ensure that

they get done. The more efficient the system is the better the experience

for your patient, but also the more time-efficient it is for you as well.

Alright guys, I hope you've enjoyed that discussion on patient flow in digital

practice. I look forward to catching you next time. Bye

Digital Story - Duration: 2:37.

Math is one of those subjects not many people particularly like many times this

means there are a lot of openings for teachers in the subject personally I

found that the teacher can impact the experience and favorability of math a

lot if you have a teacher who doesn't care or isn't the best teacher or just

doesn't teach it in a way you understand many times you're not going to enjoy it

however whether you like it or not math's gonna be with you your entire

life leading into education I had many things pushing me one of those being

Kansas 4h I was a member of this organization for thirteen years the last

five of which I was a camp counselor for fifth and sixth graders now being a camp

counselor is great and all but it also had its downturns that wanted to push me

away but I had enough people pushing me and telling me that was doing such a

good job that it made me realize what I wanted to do senior sports also showed

me big thing that came with being a teacher educators also need to be good

leaders I had three main opportunities to show

this during high school throughout football basketball and track each having

their own challenges football I was one of only five seniors and with us

losing only two games that showed our leadership with the team basketball

being the only senior I had everybody looking towards me for advice track

being the lone male senior every mental athlete came to me for needing help

being one of the most experienced on the team means I had to teach each of the

younger teammates what to do teaching duh but why math I mean come on math is

Digital Advertising - How much should I spend? 💰 - Duration: 1:29.

So Nate is there you know a formula or a way to figure out how much a business

should spend on digital advertising? Yeah it's a great question. It's probably the

number one question we get as an agency. How much should I spend? Yeah, I want to

advertise but I have no idea how much to spend in the digital world and really

that comes down to a lot of research on our end trying to figure out

what platform would work best for you but then really trying to figure out

what your goals are as a business. Is your goal to kind of like we said before

is your goal to gain ten new leads or is your goal to simply just get your

brand out in a new area? From the brand awareness perspective it could be it

could be anything you could really spend as much as you

wanted to because we have so many platforms that we could use but if it

really comes down to, I am just looking to get five new leads per month then that

really helps us understand what budget to allocate to get those leads that

you're looking for. And if you have that number of what does it cost per lead or

you know how much is a customer worth to me then that helps us figure

out that as well. Exactly, so if your cost per lead is a hundred dollars and you

want five new leads your budget better be five hundred dollars or more or the

expectations just won't match up.

Digital Style Guide - Duration: 1:01.

We all know that style guides are vital to maintaining a cohesive real estate

brand image. However as technology advances and video

becomes the new norm, traditional style guides are

no longer sufficient to maintain a consistent brand image.

Your agency may have a comprehensive style guide, but this can still be left open to

interpretation when it comes to digital use

- such as property videos and market update videos.

Inconsistent digital marketing can lead to assumptions about inconsistent service from

those in your marketplace.

This can be avoided by implementing digital parameters for your style guide, including

items such as lower thirds, how text appears on screen, the size of logos and the style

of statistics. It is also important to think about the backing

music as it can determine the tone of the video.

To really get the most out of digital parameters for your style guide, I recommend presenting

them in video format to ensure there is no room for interpretation,

keeping your brand consistent across all platforms.

First fully digital pathology laboratory for routine cancer diagnosis in Leeds - Duration: 2:21.

doctors in Leeds say they've reached a major technological milestone which

could eventually lead to patients receiving a quicker and more accurate

cancer diagnosis. Every single glass slide containing tissue sample is now

been digitally scanned which means pathologists can use computers to make a

diagnosis rather than a traditional microscope. Our health correspondent

Jamie Coulson reports.

this is an area of breast tissue and areas like this

would give us cause for concern

Seven months ago Chris Ray was given the

devastating news she had breast cancer today the 56 year old is back at the

Leeds Cancer Centre to see how modern technology could one day provide

patients like her with a faster more accurate diagnosis. For her the wait

between tissue samples being taken and getting her results was unbearable.

It would have been about 10 or 11 days before I got the diagnosis and during

that time you just fill your head with absolute rubbish and then once you get

the diagnosis you can focus your thoughts a lot more, but those 10 or 11

days were really quite traumatic.

Historically when tissue samples are

taken they're turned into glass slides which are then used by doctors to make a

diagnosis using a microscope, but these are difficult to store difficult to

transport and difficult to share in case you want a second opinion

so now every single glass slide here in Leeds is being digitized which overcomes

those problems but also unlocks the potential in the future of using

technology to help with a diagnosis.

Every day in Leeds more than a thousand

glass slides are created and now each one is being digitized using a process

that's been rigorously tested. Each image has a file size about 300 times that of

the average photo taken on a smartphone.

Over the next five to ten years we will

see every hospital in the world adopting this technology to replace the

conventional microscope, so for us this is an important milestone to show that

you can do full digitization of a busy NHS laboratory and that you can do it

safely.

For patients that could also mean

quicker results at a worrying time.
