Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き) - Traditional Osaka Food in Japan - Duration: 11:40.
Alright guys so we are sitting in front of a very hot grill that can only mean one thing.
We are about to make our own Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き).
I had never heard of this dish before we started researching foods in Japan.
Um but this is super popular here in Osaka.
It has been called a Japanese pancake or a Japanese pizza.
And let me tell you about the name because the name is quite telling.
Yes.
So Okonomi means what you like or how you like it and yaki means on the grill.
So basically whatever you like how you like it on the grill.
On the grill with a whole bunch of ingredients.
Yes.
There is going to be like a pancake batter.
Yeah.
We're just going to be cooking right here.
And something that is awesome is we've chosen to do this to cook ourselves.
Yes.
But you can also have it prepared by a special chef but we thought let's try our hand at
cooking it ourselves.
Let's see how it goes.
Let's see how it goes.
Hahaha.
Well this is great.
We got some assistance yes without really asking for it which is probably a really good
thing.
It is a really good thing.
Yeah.
I thought it was brilliant how they cooked the meat first and now that it is put on top.
Yes.
Otherwise we may not have cooked that properly.
I know.
We might have eaten it half raw.
Yeah.
So yeah we got two different kinds.
We got a special mix which came with pork and some seafood.
Yep.
And then we got one that is strictly seafood.
We have octopus, we have shrimp.
I think we have cuttlefish as well.
Yeah.
A little bit of everything.
We've got a little bit of everything from the sea.
Yeah and the main ingredients that stick it all together.
Like we have cabbage, we have egg, we also have some chives.
So yeah this is looking tasty.
Now we just wait.
It is a waiting game.
We wait and we flip.
(Sizzling and grill sounds)
Oh that one is perfect.
Well Sam how are you feeling about this food experience coming up.
I'm getting so excited about it.
This master chef has come to our table and has now flipped it several times yes and it
is starting to look perfect.
Like look at this golden.
Golden on the top here.
And it smells so good.
I'm getting so excited.
Our mouths are watering over here.
Yeah, it was testing my patience level to be honest.
I also like our utensils.
Yes.
Have you checked them out?
We've got like a little yep a little scrapper.
A little scrapper.
A little shovel thing.
Chopsticks.
And of course we have the main ones over here which the master chef has been using.
And yeah this is just this is exciting.
I like how you are calling him a master chef.
He does look pretty skilled.
He is skilled.
(Sizzling sounds)
Alright guys so it is ready.
It has been flipped over a few times perfectly toasted.
The chef came over, he put a little bit of barbecue sauce or worschester.
Worcester sauce.
I can never pronounce that word.
That sauce, a little bit of mayo.
Yep.
And then we can add the toppings as we wish.
Yes.
So here is the part where we get to have our little say.
We get to create.
Let's sprinkle a little bit of this on whatever it may be and aside from that we can't forget
those bonito flakes.
Yes.
These are the ones that dance.
Yeah, they dance when you put them around.
Look at that.
That is the best way I can describe it.
They look like they're alive.
Yes.
Look at them moving.
They are moving right now I think.
Fish flakes.
Fish flakes loaded up.
You can never have too much.
That looks good.
Oh ho.
And what is this over here?
There is a third.
That is just more of that sauce.
More sauce.
Oh okay.
We've got plenty.
I think we're good for now.
Good for now.
We're set.
Let's dig in.
Alright Sam time to do the honors.
The honors.
Let's split this bad boy right in half.
Right down the middle.
Oh ho ho.
Down the middle.
It is so crispy.
It is so thick.
Oh my gosh it feels heavy.
It actually feels heavy.
Woah.
Let's see some of that up close.
Look at that.
That looks brilliant.
Wow and this is the seafood one.
That looks wonderful.
It looks wonderful.
You know what I'm going to cut it into fours.
Yes.
Like little slices.
Let's make it more manageable.
Check out that.
So I'm going to serve you.
Deserves a photo.
Serving you.
Serving the wife-y.
Thank you.
Let's try this.
There he goes.
Oh my goodness.
It is so hot and warm.
That is steaming.
That is steaming.
A lot.
Just trying to grab a bit of everything here.
Let's try not to burn yourself.
Oh my gosh that is so good.
Yeah?
It is one of those dishes where it is like where have you been all my life?
Haha.
I would love I've been in Japan.
Hahaha.
I've been waiting for you in Japan.
Yeah, this has been waiting for me in Japan all my life.
This is so good.
It is so savoury and salty with the seafood ingredients but then at the same time you've
got a little bit of kick and sweetness with that sauce.
That Worcester sauce.
It is just such a nice contrast between those two.
Those two competing elements.
The sweetness and savoury.
Wow!
It is just delicious.
Like and we have so much to eat.
I'm so glad we ordered two.
Yeah, me too.
I brought my appetite for sure.
In we go.
In we go.
Tada.
Tada.
What do you think?
Mmmmm.
That is good.
Isn't that good?
Wow.
Isn't that good?
Yeah, like it reminds me of something in between a pancake and an omelette.
Yep.
It is really fluffy.
Yep.
And thick.
It also reminds me, I mean this is probably because we've been in Spain recently but of
the tortillas.
Yeah.
The thick tortillas with potatoes and eggs.
I was thinking the same thing.
This is like the Japanese version of a tortilla.
It is really thick.
It is really thick.
Mmmm.
Isn't that good?
Except this has way more toppings and sauces.
It has way more flavour.
Yeah, way more flavor.
All packed into this pancake.
So much going on here.
Mmmhmm.
Hahaha.
It doesn't make me think of a pizza.
I know it is nicknamed Japanese pizza.
Nope.
Yeah.
It reminds me more of a pancake or of an omelet or of a tortilla.
Exactly.
I totally agree.
Good stuff.
Time to dig in to the second Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き).
It is time guys.
And this one is considered their special one.
This is their one with bacon.
So it had pork.
Yep.
A bit of seafood.
A bit of seafood.
It has got mostly features seafood to be honest.
The only real difference that I can remember is that is has pork.
Yeah so again I'm going to cut it into fours.
Some manageable pieces over here.
I really like what you did on your plate where you cut it into little bite sized bits.
Yes.
I made the mistake of trying to uh of trying to grab it and just pick it apart with the
chopsticks.
I'm going to serve you first too.
Oh my plate still has a bit of food on it but go ahead.
Okay.
Look at that.
And I'll take my piece with this.
Wow.
Don't mind the chopsticks.
Woah hoah.
Doesn't that look good.
Little bite sized cubes.
That are easy to pick up.
Alright let's try that.
I'm going to go for the middle.
For the heart it is still steaming.
Look at that it is pipping hot.
Pipping hot still.
Woah.
Mmmm.
Oh yeah.
That is so good.
Really the only difference is just having that little bit of pork.
That little bit of bacon in there.
Otherwise it is very similar.
I'm tasting the seafood again.
Grabbing another seafood piece.
And that is just like outstanding food.
Like I feel a little bit sad because we are actually leaving tomorrow for Tokyo.
And Osaka is known for this and I wish we had of been eating this all week.
Well here we are.
The struggle is real.
Are you getting full?
This is quite filling.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I probably I could have stopped at the first one.
I just got really excited.
This is what I call comfort food.
Japanese comfort food.
Mmmm.
Osaka delights.
It is really nice.
Isn't it good?
I got ice cream.
Ice cream.
We decided we wanted a little dessert.
And it looks like strawberry ice cream on the menu.
Yes.
Mmmm.
Is that good?
That is nice.
Isn't that nice?
Mmmhmm.
Oh I'm finishing off with a little something sweet.
That is right.
But your dessert.
Yours looks more interesting.
Yeah.
It comes in an egg.
I have to mention we polished all of that off guys.
Look at the good job we did.
I know.
We cleaned off the grill.
Took care of it.
I was even scraping leftover ingredients off with the spatula over here.
It was on this side.
It tasted so good I was scraping off the ingredients.
You got it all.
I got it all.
The reveal.
The big reveal.
Tada.
Dessert.
Oh wow it has got a cute little duck.
A little duck or is it a chicken?
I think it is a duck.
Oh that looks good.
Wow, it is like two layers.
That looks very creamy.
Oh yeah that is a custard pudding.
It has got the whipped cream on top.
And it has got the custard below it.
That is so nice and smooth.
Nice.
It is good.
I like the presentation.
It is quite cute.
It is very cute.
It is sweet but it is not overpoweringly sweet which is nice too.
Wow.
Yeah.
And we should also mention there were only two dessert options at this restaurant.
Yes.
So we got that right here.
And then we got that.
Yeah mine looks like a cup of strawberries but really it is that.
Anyways in terms of price point the main one that we got was a 1220 Yen and the other one
the seafood one was 1250 Yen and so that was the price of the mains.
The strawberry dessert was 300 Yen and the creamy custard that I got was 380 Yen.
So overall pretty good value.
Like for all of for both of us to eat here it was less than $15 US dollars per person.
So guys thanks so much for watching and we will see you very soon with more Japanese
food and travel videos.
In Tokyo.
In Tokyo.
That is right.

STUFF BOYS should NOT DO in JAPAN: Japanese girls give their opinions. - Duration: 7:43.
When boys play with their hair while talking to me... I hate that.
"I hope I look good."
We don't check out guys that much.
Hey guys it's Cathy Cat on Ask Japanese and this time we are gonna go, hit the streets
of Tokyo and ask Japanese girls about boys.
This time the topic is gonna be, SNEEZING vs FIXING THEIR HAIR....
What of those two things are their pet peeves.
What do they actually dislike the most.
So let's find out what we should not do, in front of Japanese girls. Let's go and Ask Japanese.
And don't forget hit the subscribe button.
Director: Notifications! - And click on the bell for notifications.
What's worse? A boy that sneezes loudly or plays constantly with his hair.
Which one is worse in your opinion?
Nice line.
So many people voted this.
You don't like it when boys play with their hair. Why is that so?
They seem very narcissistic.
Like "I am so cool" - like that.
You don't like the loud sneeze.
Hygienically I don't like that.
If someone sneezes a lot when you eat, I don't want to spend much time with him.
When would it be worst to play with hair near you?
When they are talking with me. If they were just playing with their hair I would not like that.
What else should a boy not do?
When Japanese boys come up to girls to help, we actually think that is strange of them.
I think that's a problem for boys in Japan. They are usually very timid.
There are no boys who would open doors for a lady in Japan.
What not at all?
Well some might walk in front of you, and keep it open longer for you.
But they would never go up and open a door just for you.
Boys like that are rare in Japan.
SNEEZE! Rather than sneezes, the one playing with his hair is worse. Why?
It's very narcissistic.
A sneeze is normal but...
but when someone fiddles with their hair all the time like this, its weird.
We don't check your hair out that much.
What's so bad about narcissistic people?
When boys walk past a mirror on the street, and stop to fix their hair its embarassing.
You don't have to fix it all the time!
"I hope I look good" type.
We don't look at that.
What if your boyfriend fixes his hair during your date all the time?
If it's really bad, I would say something about it.
But I doubt I would.
I would not say it. I wouldn't date someone like that in the first place.
If it's really bad I would say something. But I doubt I would actually do that.
Depends on what type of boyfriend it is.
If a boy takes more time in the morning than a woman to get ready, what do you do?
I had an exboyfriend who was like that!
I was so annoyed at that!
But if I love him, and he is trying to look good for ME, for OUR date, then I would like it.
But if its not someone I love, i would have to force a laugh at that.
As long as it's for you it's ok.
If I love him, I would think it's cute he tries to get ready for me.
But if it was like that every day, I wouldn't like it.
He is trying hard for you.
If a boy keeps constantly playing with his hair, I don't like it! What do you not like?
It's like a girl!
I want a real man to not worry so much about his hair.
Once its styled in a cool way, that is enough.
If he plays with his fringe the whole day, I would drop it.
It's annoying.
Is it ok to style the hair in the morning? - I want him to do that!!!
But not once you are out?
He can fix it on the toilet a little bit. But all the time is too narcissistic for me.
When I see boys fixing their hair in the reflection of a car, I am like "aaaah".
What if a boy takes more time than a girl getting ready in the morning?
What the heck is he doing for that long???
I would really wonder what he is doing in the bathroom.
I wouldn't like that either.
If he is a famous TV person, it's his job to look good but it's different if it's a normal person.
How long would you forgive a normal boy to get ready in the morning?
10 minutes to get ready is enough.
Up to 30 minutes.
That's your limit? - Up until 30 minutes.
And if it is 35 minutes? - I would say "Aren't you in there a bit long?"
If someone sneezes loudly and a lot, I would not like it but...
Once in a while is ok.
But I think it's gross if a boy plays with his hair all the time.
It's like he is like "I am such a handsome fellow."
Gross.
If he sneezes loudly at home, that's fine but outside is embarassing.
So it depends on the situation?
At home is ok.
What if he plays with his hair at home all the time?
I wouldn't like that either.
I would get surprised from the big sneezes.
I understand that he fixes his hair, because he cares about his visual appearance.
I totally understand that. So I would pick sneezes.
Do you care a lot about your hair? - I do a lot!
When there is a mirror or a glass reflection, I fix my hair.
I totally understand why he would do that.
With a loud sneeze, I am sure he could suppress it a little if he wanted.
When men sneeze loudly on the train, it surprises me.
Even a love for a thousand years would get cold after a sneeze like that.
On that note, those were all questions. Thank you.
What's worse? A boy that sneezes loudly or a boy that constantly plays with his hair?
Play with his hair got 8 points as the worst thing apparently, I would say...
if they wanna look good, wanna fix their hair, I am cool with that.
But apparently lots of girls said, he might be a bit too egocentric for them.
How about you?
Which one do you think is worse? Leave us a comment down below!
Looking forward to reading it.
If you are new, don't forget to hit he subscribe button and...
click on the notification symbol so you don't miss the stuff we are doing ....
Hope you have a great day and I catch you soon on Ask Japanese.
Bye!
SNEEEEZE!!!!

Inside a Japanese Idol girl's EAR! Visiting the Japan Ear Spa again! Ear cleaning time! - Duration: 18:14.
Woow! This is bad! It keeps coming out again and again.
AAAAH! You took it! Thank you though.
Ahh! Mommy save me!!!
Hey guys it's Cathy Cat and today I brought a special guest. - Good Morning my name is Kazuki Ujyou.
I am a singing Youtuber. And today...
let's work together. You're not just a singing YouTuber, you are an idol!
and I heard you are also an Manga assistant. - Yes I am. I do many things.
I try do to a lot of things. - You're enjoying your life. - Yes I am!
Today's enjoyment will be the specialized ear cleaning salon. - I have never been there.
Never? That's good, let's have fun then. - Let's go.
AAAAAAHHH you took it. Thank you!
On that note we are already there.
Guess where it is? Here!
This is the ear salon Bonita Bonito. - Bonita Bonito? What does that mean?
I don't know. Let's ask the staff.
There we are, Bonita Bonito. The number is 102 I think.
Welcome! - Hello it's Cathy Cat. - Come in.
Thank you.... - Let's go inside...
There we are. Hello, long time no see. I brought a new friend!
Here we are. We are in your care today.
I heard the inside of Japanese ears are different from Western ears... let's find out.
Yes, this is the first time you brought a Japanese friend. - Let's go!
Have you ever seen your ear inside?
Never never never! - What do you think it will look like?
It will be terrible! A jungle! - Let's show everyone your jungle!
Let's start. - Ok here we go.
Entering now...
Your ear canal is really thin.
But they look quite clean.
Please save me! Wow! There is so much going on!
I've seen this the first time in my life.
How embarrassing!
That's my ear hole? It's so hairy hairy!!!
It looks clean. - It does. That's boring.
Sorry! - I don't have to translate this time, this is easy.
That's right. - Yeah.
I am enclosed by people who are looking at my insides...
This is a first time experience for me. - Has someone ever cleaned your ears?
My mum might have done it 10 years ago.
I will cut your ear hairs. - You cut my ear hairs? That's a first for me.
The scissors look regular to the eye.
What! She is cutting it! I can hear the sound! What!
- Ahha. - Does it tickle! - It's quite something.
What? Why are you doing this? Ah!
Are you serious. - Please don't move too much. - I don't want to move but I do.
I don't want to move but my body moves by itself.
Cutting your ear hair makes it easier to clean them.
That's why I first cut it cleanly so they don't stop the cleaning process.
Cutting them makes it easier. - How much do you think until they grow back?
How long do you think it will take for them to grow back. - The hair? I might come back quickly, in a month maybe?
That's right. - I did it. - Nice one.
Wow this is embarrassing. Hairy or clean, don't know which one is more embarrassing.
I don't know. Which one. Still I am embarrassed.
-Ah. -Well how does it feel? -Well...
I don't know. I am too busy to figure out if I am embarrassed or just busy. My ears feel good though.
Sorry! AAHHH! Sorry for my behavior.
I sing a lot. I feel like my ears might get better at hearing.
Sound will get in easier. - You are using some sort of lotion.
Yes, this is an ear lotion. Ear wax is made out of sweat, and skin particles, and dust.
It's oil. So you need oil to take the oil of cleanly.
Same to some lipsticks. - You have a crease. It's collecting wax here.
You have a deep crease around here. That's very rare. You can't clean that area by yourself.
What? I didn't know that. That's funny. - How does that make you feel?
I am 90% embarrassed. - Still embarrassed? - We found a secret garden.
You did! I didn't know about myself. - It seems super rare.
Wow. - That's bad! -It's so thin. You couldn't clean that yourself.
What?? - Yeah your ears are small. - So small! -I didn't know that about my own ears.
Wow. It's quite deep.
That's unbelievable. - You found out a new secret.
This is pretty bad! It keeps coming out.
Don't worry we all have dirty ears. - Your ears are one of the more pretty ones really.
They are? Yay! ... I feel like I used up all calories of today.
This is a real experience. My left ear feels super clean right now.
We are done here. - How are you doing? - Thank you so much.
Usually I'd be more energetic but I used a lot of energy just now.
This thing feels good. - Let's go. - Ah!
It's so fluffy. - Does this feel ok to you?
Thank you so much. Wow that was quite something. - I am getting nervous just sitting next to you.
I hope there is something fun in your other ear. - Yes I hope so too.
Let's go. - Wonder how your left looks like. - We got something there.
- Yes there is something! - This here.
When did you last clean your ears? - I didn't give it a full cleanse but...
coming out of the bath I swiped it with a cotton bud lightly.
Should I clean it more intensely?
We have specific tools here. Not just normal cotton buds.
There are several ways to clean it. Doesn't mean that you need to use cotton buds.
Cleaning your ears it's what it's all about.
Swiping it with a cotton bud is also cleaning your ear. - Do I have to do it every day?
it's not good to do it every day. You don't need that.
Wax doesn't accumulate that easily. Once in two weeks is ok. I just cut the hairs here.
Just using the place where I cut the hair is enough. Don't push it in too deep.
You can't cut it yourself too. Just clean it once every so often.
Clean once every so often. But inside the ear is a vagus nerve.
This vagus nerve can help you relax a lot.
This is the same type of nerve as your chest and your underarms. - My breasts?
Yes that's why it feels slightly ticklish when you clean your ears.
That's strange. I wonder why that's the same nerve. - When you can't sleep...
it might help you if you cleaned your ears and relaxed.\
These nerves help you relax. - I am really surprised that's the same type of nerve as my breasts.
So I am getting my breast nerves touched up while being filmed right now?
That's the first time someone said it like that. - Things that stuck on my breast nerves are getting cleaned...
Aaaaah! That's amazing. You took some more off. Thank you so much.
This is an incredible experience. - I think we will get de-monetized. - YouTube will demonetize this video.
The director expects this video to get demonetized, if you say breasts so much...
Yeah you might. Maybe you should put an age disclaimer on it. - Do you sometimes get demonetized?
I totally do. I am just streaming from my bathroom and I will get the age limit on.
What videos on Youtube do you recommend. - I want people to see my music videos.
But the videos that I don't work hard on, where I wear a swimsuit, those are popular.
We are done. - It's clean now. - It's clean.
Yes it's sparkly now.
There is a cute girl so close to my face. ... This feels good.
I feel like we became a lot closer.
I am looking forward where this is going. - A cute girl is staring at me! Ah!
What do I do. Please censor this.
Aah... Cathy, today is nice weather. - It is. - What's your hobby?
I will push your acupuncture points now.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH I will die!!!
This is the point for shoulder pains and headaches. - I will die!!!
AAAH! MOMMY HELP MEEE
This is another acupuncture point.
The next one is for your eyes... - Eyes...
Ah... This one is easier though. - Your nerves are sensitive.
Please save me! I started sweating.
Acupuncture points can hurt that much - Not if you are not stiff.
That means she must have stiff muscles. - Yes very stiff. - The Youtube backpack
that I use is heavy. - Let's check another one. - The left is better.
lots better. My feet!! - Is this video going to be ok?
Are you covered? Let's go for the next one.
AAAAH! This hurts. - That's another nerve.
Wow this is crazy but feels good. - Next we cleanse. - We will wash them?
What? That's tickling!
This time I learn new Japanese words like "Koshoubai" (ticklish)
Is this a kansai word? - Yes I am coming from the Kansai area.
Where exactly? - Hyogo prefecture near the Hime castle. -What do you say here?
We say the word "kusugutai" when something is ticklish.
Director: It's not just cleaning your ear, she focusses a lot of attention to all aspects.
Not just swiping it with a bud. - And you don't have to get undressed in this ear spa.
This felt really good. - There were many things happening today. You screamed for your mum. - I did?
MOMMY HELP ME!!! - You did.
I feel so cleansed now. I feel good.
We are done now. - Thank you so much, really.
Thank you!
That was the treatment today. - How was your first visit to the ear spa?
It was so much more than I expected in the first place.
I didn't know you would see so deeply inside your ear. And then the outside of the ear...
I got that massaged and my head. There was so much going on.
I didn't expect all of that. It felt super good.
Even though people stared at me I felt good. - Sorry about that. - No really it was good.
I feel clean now. Not just my head but my whole body.
I have brought many people here and everyone's reaction is different.
And everyone's ears are all different. I expected someone to do something similar but not yet so far.
I would like to bring another friend again next time! - Sure.
Ujyou san please tell people what you are actually doing.
I am a YouTuber. I also released a CD in August. I am a singing YouTuber.
I do both singing and YouTube. - What's the name of your cd?
IT's called Genso Watashi. It's about illusions and the beauty of Japan.
It's about the soul of Japan.
I do a lot of YouTube videos. Find out more about me in the description box below.
Visit her channel some time. You can try and message her in English too. - I am looking forward to it.
Thank you all for watching. See you for more videos soon (if you subscribe!)
See you soon! More ear spa videos are in our playlist! Bye!

How to Cook Japanese Instant Fried Noodles (Yakisoba) - Duration: 2:32.
Welcome to Inside Japan and our guide on how to noodle.
First step is the easiest. You take off the plastic wrapping from around the noodles.
This plastic is recyclable. For the next step you need to pull back the lid but don't pull back too far.
Just far enough to take out the ingredients.
You might want to tilt and wiggle the bowl to make sure that you pulled out all of the ingredient packets.
Most instant yakisoba packages have step-by-step instructions,
but the next step can be tricky if you don't know how to read Japanese.
If there is a clear packet of dried vegetables,
you can open it and put it with the noodles before you pour the hot water.
In Japan electric kettles are very common and are ideal for instant noodles.
You should pour the hot water until the water reaches the line or the groove on the bowl.
Pouring cold water onto the noodles and sticking it into the microwave is not a good idea.
After you're done pouring close the lid and pinch the tab to keep it closed.
You can put the liquid packets on the lid to hold it down and make sure the ingredients are easy to pour.
The next step is to peel off the small tab in the back and drain the water.
You might want to make sure the lid is closed and turn everything slightly upside down.
After removing the water you take the lid off completely.
This is where you pour out the other packets onto the noodles.
If you pour everything in one area it'll be harder to mix it later.
The best thing to do is to spread everything out evenly.
After you've poured out everything you need to mix everything together with the noodles.
For the best results you may want to take your time and make sure everything is mixed evenly.
Some of the noodles on the bottom might not be mixed well. So, be sure not to forget the bottom noodles.
After you're done mixing you can enjoy your instant yakisoba.
