Hey, guys, Professor Bill of Comic Book University and I'm going to explain 10 things about Marrina in about a minute.

1.) Marrina's first appearance was in "Alpha Flight #1" in August 1983 and she was created by John Byrne.

2.) 40,000 years ago, the alien species, The Plodex, crash-landed on Earth.

While they intended to invade the planet and steal the natural resources by growing their eggs and populating the planet, the eggs landed in the North Pole and very few survived.

3.) A sailor named Tom Smallwood found one of those eggs and brought it home to his wife, Gladys, and his son, Daniel.

4.) The egg took the genetic information of the Smallwoods, who were handling it, and from that egg, Marrina was hatched.

5.) She grew faster than a human child would and, due to the egg surviving at the bottom of the sea for so long, was amphibious, too.

6.) Her body was also "made" for the sea, giving her the ability to swim at 900 knots per hour, faster than any Marvel character could move in the water.

7.) She was strong enough to be able to lift 650 lbs. over her head but her greatest power was a form of aquakinesis, allowing her to control water and form it into a jet, sending it as a blunt attack over several miles distance.

She's also learned to travel on that spout, similar to the way that Iceman rides his ice-sleds.

8.) Marrina had a unique flaw, in that, anyone with access to Plodex technology could cause her to become a much darker creature with claws who couldn't recognize friend from foe.

9.) More than this, she could be changed into a leviathan creature, miles long, and only intelligent enough to protect her unborn eggs.

10.) Marrina was otherwise a curious and gentle soul who loved exploring the world both above and below the sea, especially with her husband, Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

And that's 10 things about Marrina in about a minute.

What reasonable adjustments could an MSer request from a university or college? - Duration: 2:49.

How can I revise effectively when my brain feels like a sieve?

Oh, okay.

Well, I think the thing to think about is study skills is, you know, it's a skill,

learning how to study and getting the best out of yourself, and that's the same for

everybody.

And then the thing is, you know, with MS, sometimes people have difficulties with some

of their cognitive skills, so things like their memory or their attention skills might

not be as good as they were before, or it might change over time if you're tired or

you've had a bad night's sleep or you're having a relapse.

All of those things are to be taken into account.

But I think the thing that I find useful is to consider your own learning style, which

quite often we don't even know.

So do you seem to respond well to seeing things visually, so pictures and diagrams and videos,

or mind maps and things.

Or do you like to hear the information, do you like to write it down.

So I think have a look at your own learning style, and there's quite a lot of kind of

questionnaires.

If you look it up online you can do one and get a sense of your own style.

And then think about what techniques are you going to use to try, and it's probably a

bit of a trial and error sort of thing initially.

So, for example, is it good if you highlight or underline certain topics or key things

so that it stands out to you more.

Is it good if you video things and then you can watch it back or record it so you can

listen back to it.

And then maybe use your friends and peers as well to help you to study.

So like a group where you're interviewing each other or you're doing a role play or

they're testing you and you're having to say it out loud and repeat it, because

again, that helps to get things into your memory.

And then really you need to think about how you organise yourself, and that really comes

down to, I probably would suggest having some sort of diary or calendar where you can literally

plan in time to do certain pieces of work so it's not left to the last minute so that

then you're not worrying that it's at the end of, you know, sort of just before

the deadline and then that increases your anxiety and stress as well.

And there again, if you've got specific difficulties like you know that you don't

remember things very easily, then using something as a reminder or with alarms or prompts will

help you.

Again, something on your phone often, we've all got smartphones nowadays so it's so

easy just to have an alarm that goes off to help you to remember to go and do x or y.

And then planning it into your weekly routine, I think that's really important.

So when you're at uni and you've got all these conflicting things, like you want to

go out with your mates and you need to cook yourself some dinner or do your shopping,

all of that, and do your study and get a good night's sleep and hopefully do some exercise,

you need to really schedule different activities and pace yourself, which is really important,

I think, in terms of making sure you don't get overloaded and too tired.

And, you know, what's important, when does it need to be done, does it need to be done

now or not.

Can you do a bit of it now and do some more of it later.

Yeah.

So a sort of like priority list, or most important.

That's it, yeah.

I think it's really important.

And, you know, we've all got conflicting priorities and, you know, like if you're

coming up to an exam or something and you're having to study for it and you're still

managing the rest of your life, you know, the cooking and all of those things, sometimes

you just need to give yourself a chance and set some easier, use some strategies for those

things that make them easier so you've got more time to study.

So, you know, batch cook and just shove it in the microwave, get the odd takeaway.

You know, it's not going to be the end of the world, depending on your student budget.

You know, order your shopping online or ask for help, you know, don't be afraid to use

your friends and peers for support, because everybody needs to have support at some time

or another and, you know, your aim is to get through that exam and get that assignment

in on time.

So you mentioned smartphones.

We've seen a lot of rise in sort of like brain training apps at the minute.

Can brain training apps help improve cognitive function?

Oh, that's a good question.

Yeah, I mean I think there are lots of those different apps and, you know, there is definitely

room for improvement in certain cognitive skills, it really does depend what cognitive

difficulty you've got.

So, for example, memory, there are certain things that it's very difficult to sort

of make better and a lot of it is about compensating for those difficulties, there are a lot of

the apps that you can get now help you sort of diarise things and schedule alarms and

things so that you're overcoming the difficulty with your memory.

But there is room for improvement in other areas like your attention and concentration

skills, definitely, and I think, you know, using some of those can be quite helpful.

So yeah, I think it's worth speaking to your therapists about and it's worth trying

those things, at times, yeah.

Protesters, students seize university in demonstration against Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega - Duration: 2:45.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua -- Violence returned to protests against Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's government on Monday when riot police confronted protesters and students seized a university

Students demanding greater democracy and Ortega's resignation took over the Engineering University in Managua, the capital

Government supporters quickly gathered to end the takeover, but anti-government protesters rallied to support the students

The offices of the pro-government radio station Radio Ya, whose offices are located near the university, were partially set fire during the demonstration

Police were sent to contain the protests and there were reports of people injured

Protests also broke out in the city of Masaya, where the prosecutors' offices were set afire

The demonstrations erupted in mid-April after Ortega imposed austerity measures for Nicaragua's social security system

At least 76 people died amid a violent response from police and government-allied Sandinista youth groups

Last week, Nicaragua's Roman Catholic leadership announced that it was indefinitely suspending church-mediated talks between the government and its critics due to a lack of progress

The government is demanding that protesters stop blocking roads.

Taylah Cole | RMIT Indigenous Branding | RMIT University - Duration: 2:01.

I'd like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people – those past, present and future – for

allowing us to participate on the land, to learn study and play.

I became involved with the Indigenous branding for RMIT through Ngarara Willim.

I got sent an email about the opportunity and I just thought I'd send

in my designs and see how it went. My idea was to create a series of work

that highlighted Indigenous culture but also paid homage to the original artist

who did the Ngarara Willim logo, Mandy Nicholson – a Wurundjeri woman – and she used the Manna

Gum leaf. For the Manna Gum leaf, to make it my own, I looked at each campus on the

campus map and drew my own style and interpretation and then I placed it

within the Manna Gum leaf. So there's three gum leaves and they each represent each

campus. And then I drew the emu feather, which is also culturally

significant ... you use it for ceremonial purposes ... from an emu feather skirt which

women would wear. Being able to fly to Sydney and

come here is really amazing. It's like, you know, you're a working

professional but you're still a student, so it's really special. To be able to

design from a cultural perspective and from my own story is amazing and I want

to eventually give back to my community because I've gained so much from mine

and that's always been at the forefront of my design thinking cap. Being

Indigenous and following along with the culture ... that's what's driven me to the

amazing experiences I've had. You know, I've done other things but it was always

my culture that's driven me and giving me the opportunities I needed to be

successful in my mind.

University of Bristol Technical Apprentice - Willow - Duration: 1:58.

Hi, I'm Willow. I am an apprentice for the University of Bristol and I'm currently in my first year training.

I train at BEMA, which is a training centre in Yeat. For my first year, I'm there fully.

My second year, I'll be in the University for four days a week and one day at BEMA...

...and that's the same for the third year as well.

Growing up, my dad had a massive influence in my interest towards engineering.

He always inspired me to do whatever I wanted and not what anyone else wanted...

...and that was a big thing, being interested in like maths and science, being a girl.

So, this is the workshop I'll be working in next year...

...primarily working with students, making them bits and bobs for their experiments and their projects.

I'll also be working with PhD researchers primarily in the summer times.

My apprenticeship with Bristol University is considered one of the best apprenticeships...

...I could have in engineering in my field of work.

It's very like experimental, like you try it out the first time, it normally doesn't work...

...you learn from that, you make it new, make it better and we carry on from there.

When I speak to new people about my job, people are surprised the University even offer apprenticeships...

...let alone the amount of apprenticeships they offer for people who still want to work...

...and learn in an academic environment.

I definitely think the apprenticeship is better for me.

I'd say I'm a lot more employable, once I finish it, than most degree students that want to go into...

...a similar kind of like job role because of the hands-on experience.

In five years time, I see myself still working with the University, hopefully.

It's literally my dream job, doing new things every single day.

University of Memphis to offer free tuition to children, spouses of fallen service members - Duration: 2:17.

University of Memphis to offer free tuition to children, spouses of fallen service members

The University of Memphis will not longer charge tuition to the children and spouses of fallen service members.

The school becomes the first to offer the national Folds of Honor scholarship as a payment-in-full scholarship, The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported on Monday, Memorial Day.

The university already accepts the scholarship, which provides a $5,000-year-year payment to undergraduate students under the age of 24 who had a parent severely injured or killed while on active duty.

Spouses of any age can also receive it if they have not remarried.

Fold of Honor recipients, both those currently enrolled and future students, will not longer need to pay for the rest of their education at the Tennessee school.

The average cost of tuition Memphis is reportedly about $9,700 a year, plus room and board, fees and textbooks.

Any outstanding fees may also be covered by additional scholarships, said university President David Rudd.

Our commitment is to cover any gap that exists as a result and to relieve them of that burden, Rudd said.

The deal will be formally signed by Rudd in the coming weeks.

This sacrifice is remarkable and we need to recognize that, he said.

University of Bristol Technical Apprentice - Kelly - Duration: 2:12.

Hi. So, I'm Kelly. I'm an apprentice lab technician here at Bristol University.

I look after Biology and Zoology students.

I commute into Bristol every day for my apprenticeship. I was always so interested in science and everything...

...and when I was at college I got really lucky and got the opportunity to have some work experience in labs...

...and that really cemented for me that this is what I want to go into.

This is the lab that I work in. This is where we prepare for all the Biology and Zoology student practicals.

So it's a really varied job preparing for all different practicals.

It's one of the things I love about it because every day is different.

So this is a bit of a practical I'm currently preparing for. This is some gelatin that I'm melting down.

I chose to not go to university because at the time I didn't get the best grades at college...

...and so this hands-on approach to getting a better qualification works better for me.

That pressure of just learning and exams doesn't work for everyone.

Best things and worst things about working here.

Worst things probably have to be things like washing up you have to do every week...

...and washing up a thousand test tubes can be a bit dull, but we put some music on...

...and we have a laugh and chat while we're doing it, so it's not really that bad.

Move on to the good things, which are the view. This is the view from our roof-top lunch room.

Not all apprentices get this, but it is a nice perk that we have here.

My team are absolutely amazing, so that's going to be the next perk.

They are so supportive and I know the team makes it through a lot of jobs...

...so just having that support as soon as I started was really great.

Finally, I think just the variety and how interesting the work is...

...because everything changes every couple of days. There's no opportunities to get bored.

There's no opportunities to sort of feel like, maybe I should have done something else with my time.

This was...this is just perfect.

Thanks for watching, guys. I hope I answered any questions you have.

I would really recommend going through an apprenticeship if you're considering...

...a career in science and maybe don't want to go the usual route of university.

And thanks for your time, I hope you really enjoyed the video.

University of Bristol Technical Apprentice - Mictroy - Duration: 2:37.

Hi, my name is Mictroy Mitchell. I've lived in Bristol pretty much all my life.

My teachers in school wanted me to go to university, but I just didn't want to do it at all.

I like the thought of having practical experience. I'm a very hands-on person...

...and I've always been that way, since a boy. But I still like the academic world.

I applied for this job not expecting what I got into, really. I didn't expect to be in such a beautiful lab.

I just really love the place, so it made things easy for me.

I just wanted to carry on learning. I didn't just want to be fixed in one sort of role.

Have a look at what my maths books looks like. In school my maths wasn't brilliant.

Once you do so much, you just realised that everything in maths is just linked in one way or another.

My friends thing that I am a mad scientist for working at the University.

They've seen my qualifications that I've gained, the science and lab qualifications...

...and they literally just assumed I was a scientist straight away from that.

I don't actually do science, I do engineering.

Yeah, I know everyone's proud of me, especially with my family...

...even though they don't really say much, they act like it's normal.

I get the sense that they're proud.

Being an apprentice with a son just adds on to the responsibility...

...and I think I'm doing quite well managing my life.

It's quite hard, I'm not gonna lie, especially when you have a son or a daughter.

Helping researchers is really satisfying for me because I get to sort of be involved in what they're doing...

...and grow, basically because it's sort of top-notch research that they're doing.

A lot of it has never been done before, so it's sort of looking into the unknown. I find that really interesting.

This is the Propulsion Laboratory. This is Clive Rendall, who is my manager, my trainer...

...my whatever-you-want-to-call-it. He taught me most of what I know. As you could see, he's a young chap.

I'm catching him up really quickly! anyone who loves engineering who likes

Anyone who loves engineering, who likes to find new things, who likes learning...

...it's a brilliant place to come and work.

I mean, look at my lab. It's got a helicopter in it, you don't just see that every day, do you?

Interdisciplinary Studies Major at Belhaven University - Duration: 4:09.

the interdisciplinary studies degree is probably one of the best-kept secrets at

Belhaven University because the interdisciplinary studies degree allows

an individual to be able to bring in a variety of different credits and

organize them into a degree that gives them kind of that wide appeal aspect it

allows people who have maybe gone so far in their studies in other areas and

other institutions they come here and maybe they they don't have enough

credits left or financial aid left to focus on a specific degree area here but

they can take what they've completed in other areas and by combining them

together create our interdisciplinary studies degree it's a fabulous degree

and I highly recommend it if you bring in credits from institution a and

institution B an institution C we bring all of that together using the matrix

that we have to be able to determine how to set up your in a disciplinary Studies

degree so that it's tailored specifically so every person's

interdisciplinary studies degree is unique literally from every other

person's but it fits them perfectly and allows them again that perfect match of

being able to take what they have had and be able to mesh it all into a solid

degree honestly an IDs and interdisciplinary studies degree is

probably one of the stronger degrees unless you unless you are very

passionate about a subject because it gives you a wide breadth of knowledge

that can be used in a variety of different atmospheres and it gives you

that piece of paper which of course you know is is that that necessary hurdle

for getting many jobs our adult classes if you take the adult class format meet

one night a week and typically you only take one class at a time this is very

important for working adults Belhaven is probably one of the premier

institutions in the United States as far as I'm concerned about the ability of

taking all of the subject matter that you might get at any other institution

and integrating it with a Christian worldview perspective it's not Sunday

school it's not a lot of Bible verses it's a true integration of

a Christian might look at something and how that person who may not be a

Christian would look at it from a different perspective and be able to see

that difference and so while Bell Hammond doesn't push anyone to adopt a

Christian worldview Belhaven is very good actually superior is probably to

any other institution I'm aware of being able to allow students to truly grasp

the difference and understand how the interplay of a Christian worldview makes

a difference on literally every subject if you complete your interdisciplinary

studies degree of Belhaven University the perfect next step for you is

probably the Masters of Science and leadership and that's because the

Masters of Science and leadership gives you that graduate degree that is going

to pave the way for you to move forward in in a lot of different areas it's

possible also for you to move if you have and for instance in your

interdisciplinary studies courses some math and some background in STEM related

subjects you might be able to move into the MBA program that's certainly an

option but here at Belhaven the perfect natural sequence would be for you to

have the Masters of Science and leadership I would say that Bell Hammond

University because of the the solid foundation that we have with academics

and solid Christian worldview would be a perfect match for any student coming in

regardless of what background and a half if they come here especially if they

have gotten to that place where they do have those broken-up courses from

various institutions our people are really capable of helping them mesh all

of that to get them that degree as quickly as possible so we want to get

them to agree we're not trying to take them by getting them to take courses

they don't need we're trying to get them to get literally what they want that

piece of paper in as as as concise and effective away as possible
