Second Japanese Princess in 2 Years Will Marry a Commoner, Leave Royal Family - Duration: 2:53.

Princess Ayako of Japan's decision to follow her heart is making headlines around the world

According to an official announcement on Tuesday by Japan's Imperial Household, Ayako will marry a commoner this fall and leave the Imperial family as soon as vows are exchanged

Ayako is the daughter of Prince Takamado, who died in 2002 and was the cousin of Emperor Akihito

On August 12, Ayako, 27, will become engaged in a traditional court ceremony to Kei Moriya, 32, who works for Japanese shipping firm NKY Line

They plan to marry on October 12 at Meiji Jingu Shrine in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, Japanese Times reports

Ayako's departure from the royal family slims it down to 17 members. Her second cousin and the Emperor's eldest grandchild, Princess Mako, 26, made the same decision in May 2017

Although she decided to postpone her wedding and not marry her fiancé, Kei Komuro, until 2020, she officially left her royal status in September 2017

And Ayako's older sister, Princess Noriko, married a commoner, a Shinto priest, in 2014

Princess Ayako and Moriya met less than a year ago through their parents, who worked together at an NGO

Ayako's mother, Princess Takamado, was hoping the introduction would inspire her daughter to get involved in global child welfare, but the connection quickly became deeper

A passion for helping others runs in both families. Ayako has a master's degree in social work, and Moriya's late mother was on the board of a Tokyo-based nonprofit whose name translates to Children Without Borders

Moriya is also a board member.  The Japanese monarchy is thought to be the oldest in the world, and legislators are attempting to modernize it

Revisions to the male-only succession law and allowing women who marry non-royals to stay within the family and start their own branch are both up for discussion

Is Japan colonising an ASTEROID? Space agency to land probe 180million miles away - Duration: 5:25.

The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has sent a probe millions of miles into space to attempt to land on the space rock dubbed "Ryugu"

The Hayabusa2 ship is expected to reach the asteroid today.  And now conspiracists believe they are testing to see whether inhabiting the rock in the future is a possibility

One channel, , uploaded a video questioning whether the Japanese are hiding the truth

Tyler Glockner, who runs the page, speculated that the space experts are up to something bigger than they're letting off

Since he uploaded the clip earlier today, it has already racked up more than 62,000 hits

And viewers were quick to add their own opinions. "It doesn't look natural at all," one viewer claimed

Before another added: "They will probably try to colonise it." And a third stated: "The Japanese are up to something

" Top Facts About Asteroids Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun

The first asteroid was Ceres, discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801. There are currently over 600,000 known asteroids in our solar system

Most asteroids are found orbiting in the Asteroid Belt, a series of rings located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter

1 / 10 Getty Images There are Millions of Asteroids in the solar system, usually found in the Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, however those in that pass the Earth are called Near-Earth objects  Hayabusa2 left Earth on December 3, 2014, to study the asteroid as scientists believe it may contain trace amounts of primordial water and organic matter from the birth of our solar system

Should these be found, it could help to answer questions about how life started on Earth

Despite originally appearing round, Ryugu was found to be diamond-shaped. Mission principal investigator Seiji Sugita said in a statement on Friday that their predictions on its structure have changed over time

EPIC apocalyptic asteroid impact craters Conspiracy theorists claim the Earth is due a direct hit with an asteroid

Here's some extraordinary impact craters caused by alien objects 1 / 14 Getty Images Eastern Russia's Lake El'gygytgyn, which sits inside a small asteroid impact crater  He said: "As we approached Ryugu and were able to distinguish individual features in the asteroid's topology, it became clear that Ryugu has a land of rich terrain

"Numerous clusters of rock roll on the surface. Among these, a large rocky mass (about 150 meters [490 feet] across) stands out on the upper part of Ryugu due to its brighter colour

"The belt-shaped ring of peaks that surround the equator are also slightly brighter than their surroundings

"This colour difference may reflect a difference in material composition and the size of the particles that form the rock

"We can also see many sunken regions that look like craters. These depressions may have been made in collisions with other celestial bodies

A structure that looks like a grove is also visible."

People who don't have children are 'selfish', says senior Japanese politician - Duration: 4:05.

A leading Japanese politician has criticised people who do not have children as being "selfish", the latest in a string of controversial parenting remarks by senior figures from the ruling party

Toshihiro Nikai, the secretary-general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, made his comments during a speech in Tokyo, during which he also urged the nation to have more children in order to make everyone "happy"

"During and after the war when (Japanese people) were living on the edge of starvation, nobody said it's better not to have children because it would be too much trouble," said Mr Nikai, 79

"These days, some people have a selfish idea that it is better not to give birth to children

"  He added: "In order for everyone (in Japan) to be happy, we should have many children and develop our country

"  The Japanese government is currently contending with a record low birthrate, with around 941,000 children born last year – the lowest figure since nationwide records began in 1899

However, Mr Nikai's comments are likely to ignite concerns that the ruling elite are starkly out of touch with the realities of daily life in Japan, where mothers struggle to juggle careers with parenting while facing chronic shortages of childcare places and widespread gender discrimination in the workplace

Meanwhile, only three per cent of Japanese men take paternity leave following the birth of a child, with many workers fearful about the impact on their career if they take their legally entitled break

The extent of the nation's childcare problem was reflected in a recent survey by the think tank Nomura Research Institute, which found that 348,000 children nationwide were unable to enroll in Japan's limited number of facilities

An additional 599,000 children needed to obtain places – nearly twice the government's target of 320,000 for 2020 – if the employment rate of women aged between 25 and 44 was boosted to its goal of 80 percent in 2022, compared to 66 per cent in 2009, the report added

Mr Nikai, whose comments were reported by Kyodo news agency, is not the only senior LDP figure to spark controversy in recent months due to outdated views of family life in modern-day Japan

Last month, Koichi Hagiuda, the executive acting secretary-general of LDP – and a close aide to the prime minister Shinzo Abe - caused a stir when he declared that children under the age of two should be raised by women not men

The veteran politician said during a speech in Miyazaki, southern Japan, that the idea of men raising young children was an "unwelcome idea", adding that infants "must want mums, no matter how you look at it

I think it is a bit strange if they chose dads".  Just weeks earlier, Kanji Kato, a lower house member of LDP, also came under fire after saying that single women were a "burden on the state" and declared that newly-weds should have "at least three children"

Japanese Princess Ayako to marry shipping employee, leave royal family - Duration: 3:33.

Japan's Princess Ayako has become the second Japanese princess in two years to announce she's marrying a commoner, a move that will force her to renounce her royal status

Japan's Imperial Household Agency announced Tuesday that the third, and youngest, daughter of the late Prince Takamodo, cousin of Emperor Akihito, is set to marry Kei Moriya, a 32-year-old employee of shipping firm NYK Line

The two met less than a year ago, will officially mark their engagement on August 12, and wed at Tokyo's Meiji Jingu shrine on October 29

Princess Ayako, who has a master's degree in social welfare, was originally introduced to Moriya by her mother, Princess Takamodo, last December, according to the Imperial Household

Princess Takamodo knew Kei's parents from her outreach work at a local NGO, and made the introduction in the hope that her daughter would be inspired by global welfare activities

However, the pair discovered that they have a lot more in common than a passion for global welfare

They both enjoy skiing, books and travel.Under Japanese imperial law, the princess will be required to leave the family once she exchanges vows with Moriya

However, she will receive a bonus payment expected to be around a million dollars

Ayako is not the first princess in her generation who plans to leave the royal family

Last May, her second cousin and eldest grandchild to the Emperor, Princess Mako, announced plans to marry paralegal Kei Komoro

However, the couple postponed their marriage this February, stating that they were not yet ready for marriage

Ayako is not a direct descendent of Emperor Akihito, who plans to abdicate in 2019, so doesn't attract the same level of attention as Princess Mako

However, her engagement will raise questions over the future of the world's oldest hereditary monarchy

Despite debate to introduce legislation to allow women to ascend the throne, the birth of Prince Hisahito in 2006 -- the first male heir born to the Imperial family in 40 years -- put an end to that discussion

If Princesses Mako and Ayako both marry commoners, the number of imperial family members will drop to 17, increasing the burden of royal duties on the remaining members

A resolution added to the Emperor's abdication bill last June called for the government to begin deliberating succession issues, including the option of princesses establishing new branches of the family after they marry a commoner, allowing new members to take on the duties of the imperial family

Japan space explorer arrives at asteroid – 170 million miles from Earth - Duration: 5:25.

A Japanese space explorer has arrived at an asteroid after a three-and-a-half-year journey and now begins its real work of trying to blow a crater to collect samples to eventually bring back to Earth

The unmanned Hayabusa2 spacecraft reached its base of operations about 12 miles from the asteroid and some 170 million miles from Earth, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said

Over the next year and a half, the spacecraft will attempt three brief touch-and-go landings to collect samples

If the retrieval and the return journey are successful, the asteroid material could provide clues to the origin of the solar system and life on Earth

The robotic explorer will spend about two months looking for suitable landing places on the uneven surface

Due to the high surface temperature, it will stay for only a few seconds each time it lands

The asteroid, named Ryugu after an undersea palace in a Japanese folktale, is about 900m (3,000ft) in diameter

In photos released by JAXA, the Japanese space agency, it appears more cube-shaped than round

A number of large craters can be seen, which Project Manager Yuichi Tsuda said in an online post makes the selection of landing points "both interesting and difficult

"  The first touchdown is planned for September or October.  Before the final touchdown scheduled for April-May, Hayabusa2 will send out a squat cylinder that will detonate above the asteroid, shooting a 2kg copper projectile into it at high speed to make a crater

Hayabusa2 will hide on the other side of the asteroid to protect itself during the operation and wait another two to three weeks to make sure any debris that could damage the explorer has cleared

It will then attempt to land at or near the crater to collect underground material that was blown out of the crater, in addition to the surface material from the earlier touchdowns

The spacecraft will also deploy three rovers that do not have wheels but can hop around on the surface of the asteroid to conduct probes

Hayabusa2 will also send a French-German-made lander to study the surface with four observation devices

Asteroids, which orbit the sun but are much smaller than planets, are among the oldest objects in the solar system

As such, they may help explain how Earth evolved, including the formation of oceans and the start of life

Hayabusa2 was launched in December 2014 and is due to return to Earth at the end of 2020

An earlier Hayabusa mission from 2003 to 2010 collected samples from a different type of asteroid and took three years longer than planned after a series of technical glitches, including a fuel leak and a loss of contact for seven weeks

Nasa also has an ongoing asteroid mission. Its Osiris-Rex spacecraft is expected to reach the asteroid Bennu later this year and return with samples in 2023

Japan's Hayabusa 2 spacecraft is arriving at an asteroid called Ryugu - Duration: 6:05.

Japan's Hayabusa 2 spacecraft is arriving at an asteroid called Ryugu

A Japanese spacecraft is about to rendezvous with a tiny asteroid orbiting between Earth and Mars. Images snapped from just 40 kilometres away by the Hayabusa 2 spacecraft reveal an irregular-shaped, rotating object covered in boulders and craters.

The space rock is just 1km across and goes by the name of Ryugu.

"When you see Ryugu in two dimensions it's diamond shaped, but when you see the rotation it's like a spinning top," said Trevor Ireland, an asteroid expert at the Australian National University and member of the mission's science team.

"It's got a bulge at the centre, but it's quite angular.

Professor Ireland and his colleagues will get a closer look when Hayabusa 2 catches up to the asteroid today and locks into position 20km away from the asteroid, hovering alongside Ryugu as it orbits the Sun at about 30 metres per second.

The small spacecraft, which is about the size of a fridge and flanked by large solar panels, will then use its cameras and other sensors to develop a three-dimensional picture of the rotating asteroid over the next three months.

The mission Launched in 2014, this Japanese Space Exploration Agency (JAXA) mission plans to survey the small rock for the next year-and-a-half, then bring dust samples back to Earth in 2020.

On board the spacecraft are a range of visual, radar, infrared and thermal sensors that will nut out the asteroid's shape, composition and temperature.

After spending three months observing the surface and looking for potential landing sites, the team plans to start a series of landing experiments possibly as early as September.

The spacecraft will go down to the asteroid, touching down for second and collecting dust from the surface by shooting pellets at it.

"There's also the small carry-on impactor, where they're going to use an explosive charge to clean off the surface of the asteroid and a get a fresh sample," Professor Ireland said.

The impactor will blast a 2-metre crater so the spacecraft can collect dust from beneath the asteroid's surface.     The spacecraft will also drop two rovers off on the asteroid's surface.

One is called Minerva, a cockroach-style rover with cameras and thermometer; it will survey the surface. The other, MASCOT, will enable the team to examine microscopic grains.

"We'll get a brief glimpse of what we're potentially going to bring back to Earth," Professor Ireland said.

Why send a mission to an asteroid? "The whole point of going to an asteroid is that you can actually see the history of that asteroid by landing on it and taking samples and bringing them back," Professor Ireland said.

Those samples can tell us about the evolution of the solar system.

"Being able to bring samples back really gives us an understanding into how these asteroids evolved, how they bring material down to Earth, and how that interaction may have effected Earth over the past 4.5 billion years," he said.

It's not the first time a space mission has made a round trip to an asteroid. In 2003, the Japanese Space Agency launched a mission to get samples from an asteroid called Itokawa.

Despite some malfunctions on the spacecraft, it returned with a small sample of dust blown off the asteroid's surface. The samples indicated that Itokawa was only 8 million years old.

"This thing has only been around for a blink of the eye in terms of the history of the solar system," Professor Ireland said. First impressions from the new mission indicated Ryugu may be quite a lot older than Itokawa, he added.

What's so special about this asteroid? While Itokawa was a stony asteroid, Ryugu is a C-type asteroid, which are believed to contain organic material and water.

"So they're very important in terms of what they may have brought to Earth in the past," Professor Ireland explained.

Although this is the most common type of asteroid — about 75 per cent of asteroids are C-type — meteorites from these asteroids rarely make it to Earth.

"It may be just that they burn up in upper atmosphere and they don't like getting to Earth very easily.

They explode in the upper atmosphere and they weather very quickly as well."       A NASA mission called OSIRIS-Rex will rendezvous with another slightly different C-type asteroid later this year, called 101955 Bennu.

"It will be a very complementary mission in terms of what we're going to get," Professor Ireland said.
