Is Japan colonising an ASTEROID? Space agency to land probe 180million miles away - Duration: 5:25.

The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has sent a probe millions of miles into space to attempt to land on the space rock dubbed "Ryugu"

The Hayabusa2 ship is expected to reach the asteroid today.  And now conspiracists believe they are testing to see whether inhabiting the rock in the future is a possibility

One channel, , uploaded a video questioning whether the Japanese are hiding the truth

Tyler Glockner, who runs the page, speculated that the space experts are up to something bigger than they're letting off

Since he uploaded the clip earlier today, it has already racked up more than 62,000 hits

And viewers were quick to add their own opinions. "It doesn't look natural at all," one viewer claimed

Before another added: "They will probably try to colonise it." And a third stated: "The Japanese are up to something

" Top Facts About Asteroids Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun

The first asteroid was Ceres, discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801. There are currently over 600,000 known asteroids in our solar system

Most asteroids are found orbiting in the Asteroid Belt, a series of rings located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter

1 / 10 Getty Images There are Millions of Asteroids in the solar system, usually found in the Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, however those in that pass the Earth are called Near-Earth objects  Hayabusa2 left Earth on December 3, 2014, to study the asteroid as scientists believe it may contain trace amounts of primordial water and organic matter from the birth of our solar system

Should these be found, it could help to answer questions about how life started on Earth

Despite originally appearing round, Ryugu was found to be diamond-shaped. Mission principal investigator Seiji Sugita said in a statement on Friday that their predictions on its structure have changed over time

EPIC apocalyptic asteroid impact craters Conspiracy theorists claim the Earth is due a direct hit with an asteroid

Here's some extraordinary impact craters caused by alien objects 1 / 14 Getty Images Eastern Russia's Lake El'gygytgyn, which sits inside a small asteroid impact crater  He said: "As we approached Ryugu and were able to distinguish individual features in the asteroid's topology, it became clear that Ryugu has a land of rich terrain

"Numerous clusters of rock roll on the surface. Among these, a large rocky mass (about 150 meters [490 feet] across) stands out on the upper part of Ryugu due to its brighter colour

"The belt-shaped ring of peaks that surround the equator are also slightly brighter than their surroundings

"This colour difference may reflect a difference in material composition and the size of the particles that form the rock

"We can also see many sunken regions that look like craters. These depressions may have been made in collisions with other celestial bodies

A structure that looks like a grove is also visible."

People who don't have children are 'selfish', says senior Japanese politician - Duration: 4:05.

A leading Japanese politician has criticised people who do not have children as being "selfish", the latest in a string of controversial parenting remarks by senior figures from the ruling party

Toshihiro Nikai, the secretary-general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, made his comments during a speech in Tokyo, during which he also urged the nation to have more children in order to make everyone "happy"

"During and after the war when (Japanese people) were living on the edge of starvation, nobody said it's better not to have children because it would be too much trouble," said Mr Nikai, 79

"These days, some people have a selfish idea that it is better not to give birth to children

"  He added: "In order for everyone (in Japan) to be happy, we should have many children and develop our country

"  The Japanese government is currently contending with a record low birthrate, with around 941,000 children born last year – the lowest figure since nationwide records began in 1899

However, Mr Nikai's comments are likely to ignite concerns that the ruling elite are starkly out of touch with the realities of daily life in Japan, where mothers struggle to juggle careers with parenting while facing chronic shortages of childcare places and widespread gender discrimination in the workplace

Meanwhile, only three per cent of Japanese men take paternity leave following the birth of a child, with many workers fearful about the impact on their career if they take their legally entitled break

The extent of the nation's childcare problem was reflected in a recent survey by the think tank Nomura Research Institute, which found that 348,000 children nationwide were unable to enroll in Japan's limited number of facilities

An additional 599,000 children needed to obtain places – nearly twice the government's target of 320,000 for 2020 – if the employment rate of women aged between 25 and 44 was boosted to its goal of 80 percent in 2022, compared to 66 per cent in 2009, the report added

Mr Nikai, whose comments were reported by Kyodo news agency, is not the only senior LDP figure to spark controversy in recent months due to outdated views of family life in modern-day Japan

Last month, Koichi Hagiuda, the executive acting secretary-general of LDP – and a close aide to the prime minister Shinzo Abe - caused a stir when he declared that children under the age of two should be raised by women not men

The veteran politician said during a speech in Miyazaki, southern Japan, that the idea of men raising young children was an "unwelcome idea", adding that infants "must want mums, no matter how you look at it

I think it is a bit strange if they chose dads".  Just weeks earlier, Kanji Kato, a lower house member of LDP, also came under fire after saying that single women were a "burden on the state" and declared that newly-weds should have "at least three children"

Japan space explorer arrives at asteroid – 170 million miles from Earth - Duration: 5:25.

A Japanese space explorer has arrived at an asteroid after a three-and-a-half-year journey and now begins its real work of trying to blow a crater to collect samples to eventually bring back to Earth

The unmanned Hayabusa2 spacecraft reached its base of operations about 12 miles from the asteroid and some 170 million miles from Earth, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said

Over the next year and a half, the spacecraft will attempt three brief touch-and-go landings to collect samples

If the retrieval and the return journey are successful, the asteroid material could provide clues to the origin of the solar system and life on Earth

The robotic explorer will spend about two months looking for suitable landing places on the uneven surface

Due to the high surface temperature, it will stay for only a few seconds each time it lands

The asteroid, named Ryugu after an undersea palace in a Japanese folktale, is about 900m (3,000ft) in diameter

In photos released by JAXA, the Japanese space agency, it appears more cube-shaped than round

A number of large craters can be seen, which Project Manager Yuichi Tsuda said in an online post makes the selection of landing points "both interesting and difficult

"  The first touchdown is planned for September or October.  Before the final touchdown scheduled for April-May, Hayabusa2 will send out a squat cylinder that will detonate above the asteroid, shooting a 2kg copper projectile into it at high speed to make a crater

Hayabusa2 will hide on the other side of the asteroid to protect itself during the operation and wait another two to three weeks to make sure any debris that could damage the explorer has cleared

It will then attempt to land at or near the crater to collect underground material that was blown out of the crater, in addition to the surface material from the earlier touchdowns

The spacecraft will also deploy three rovers that do not have wheels but can hop around on the surface of the asteroid to conduct probes

Hayabusa2 will also send a French-German-made lander to study the surface with four observation devices

Asteroids, which orbit the sun but are much smaller than planets, are among the oldest objects in the solar system

As such, they may help explain how Earth evolved, including the formation of oceans and the start of life

Hayabusa2 was launched in December 2014 and is due to return to Earth at the end of 2020

An earlier Hayabusa mission from 2003 to 2010 collected samples from a different type of asteroid and took three years longer than planned after a series of technical glitches, including a fuel leak and a loss of contact for seven weeks

Nasa also has an ongoing asteroid mission. Its Osiris-Rex spacecraft is expected to reach the asteroid Bennu later this year and return with samples in 2023

Japan's Princess Ayako to marry a COMMONER and renounce royal status - Duration: 11:17.

Japan's Princess Ayako has announced she is to marry a commoner in a move that will mean giving up her royal status

The 27-year-old will marry Kei Moriya, a 32-year-old employee of shipping firm NYK Line, at Tokyo's Meiji Jingu shrine on October 29, according to Japan's Imperial Household Agency

Princess Ayako, daughter of the late Prince Takamodo, a cousin of Emperor Akihito, becomes the second Japanese princess in under two years to announce she is marrying a commoner

In September last year, Princess Mako, Emperor Akihito's oldest grandchild, and her college classmate Kei Komuro announced their engagement

Female members of the Imperial family have no claim to the Chrysanthemum Throne

As with all women in her family, the princesses will lose their royal status upon marriage to commoners  - a law that does not apply to male members of the family

Ayako met Moriya, who has a master's degree in social welfare and now works for the shipping firm NYK Line, under a year ago having been introduced to him by her mother Princess Takamodo in December, the Imperial Household revealed

Share this article Share According to CNN, she will have to leave the royal family after exchanging vows - but will receive a bonus payment in the region of a million US dollars

Unlike her cousin Mako, Ayako is not a direct descendent of Emperor Akihito, who is planning to abdicate next year

Mako announced plans to engage one for the Imperial Household Agency to reveal in February that the wedding, originally set for November, would be delayed until 2020, citing lack of time for preparations  Japanese monarchy: A man's world  Female members of the Imperial family have no claim to the Chrysanthemum Throne

As with all women in her family, Princess Mako will lose her royal status upon marriage to a commoner

This law does not apply to male royals. But few of Emperor Akihito's children and grandchildren are male, which means there is a shortage of heirs to the throne

Akihito will be succeeded by his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito. When Naruhito, who has a daughter but no sons, ascends the throne, his younger brother Akishino will be next in line, followed by Hisahito, Akishino's 10-year-old son

Akihito's three other grandchildren are all women so after Hisahito, the only person left in the line of succession is Princess Mako's younger brother

After that there are no more eligible males, meaning the centuries-old succession would be broken if the young heirs do not have any sons of their own

So far the monarchy has an unbroken 2,600-year-long line of male succession. Those who are concerned about the future of the royal family want to allow women to succeed the throne and others to keep their royal status so they can keep performing public duties - but a government panel on the emperor's abdication avoided the divisive issue

Traditionalists, including Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, strenuously oppose such changes, even though Japan has occasionally been ruled by female sovereigns in past centuries

At the time, the media quoted Mako as saying in a statement that the couple decided to postpone the wedding until after the emperor's abdication

The sudden announcement triggered speculation that the postponement may be linked to tabloid bashing on Komuro's family background

The status of the emperor is sensitive in Japan - a legacy of the massive Pacific war waged in the name of Akihito's father Hirohito, who died in 1989

Akihito has keenly embraced the more modern role as a symbol of the state which was imposed on the royal family after World War II ended

Previous emperors including Hirohito had been treated as semi-divine.But the reigning emperor shocked the country in 2016 when he signalled his desire to end his public duties, citing his age and health problems

Akihito will be the first emperor to retire in more than two centuries in a royal family that traces its lineage back more than 2,600 years

Japan's crown prince Naruhito will ascend to the Chrysanthemum Throne next May  The Japanese monarchy: a history Ancient historyThe Japanese imperial family is believed to be the world's oldest, with a myth-filled history that dates back more than 2,600 years

Akihito is the 125th emperor since Emperor Jimmu, said to be a descendant of the legendary sun goddess Amaterasu

Emperors have played a crucial role in the country's native Shinto religion, conducting various annual rites and prayers for the prosperity of the nation

Constitutional symbolThe greatest threat to the imperial family's long history came with Japan's defeat in World War II

Some in the Allied camp wanted to end the monarchy in whose name Japanese armies marched through the Asia-Pacific

But US General Douglas MacArthur, who led the post-war occupation, called for it to be retained, though its power was greatly curbed

The current US-imposed constitution took away the emperor's semidivine status and turned him into a national "symbol" as part of a radical democratisation

PopularityUnlike in some countries with royal families, there is no republican movement in Japan and the emperor and royal family have won the admiration of the vast majority of the country

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko journey to sites of natural disasters to console victims, most notably after the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster

Akihito also repeatedly warned that Japan must not downplay its 20th-century militarism and actions in World War II -- remarks seen as a rebuke to the nationalist stance of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and likeminded conservatives

Gentlemen's clubThe family operates under hereditary, male-only succession rules, although there have been eight empresses in past centuries

Upon the abdication of Akihito, his oldest son Crown Prince Naruhito will assume the Chrysanthemum Throne

Naruhito's younger brother, Prince Akishino, is next in line. The only other male heir, 10-year-old Prince Hisahito, Akishino's son, is third in line to the throne

The futureIf Hisahito only has daughters, the family is likely to face a succession crisis unless laws are changed

The scarcity of young men in the family has prompted talk of alternatives, including letting women ascend the throne, though traditionalists abhor the idea

Some have suggested that female members of the family who marry commoners should stop losing their royal status -- as will happen to Akihito's granddaughter Princess Mako when she weds her college sweetheart

Others advocate expanding the family to include distant relatives.
