UNESCO urges Japan to let world know of Hashima Island's brutal history - Duration: 1:56.

In other news...

Japan's Hashima Island is where hundreds of Korean workers were forced to toil in coal

mines.

While Tokyo has failed to implement its promise to let the world know of the island's brutal

history,...

UNESCO urged Japan to inform the world and seek dialogue with South Korea regarding the

matter.

Kim Hyo-sun tells us more.

UNESCO has urged Japan to tell the world about the brutality committed against the forced

laborers of Korea who worked on Japan's Hashima Island during its colonial rule of the Korean

Peninsula from 1910 to 1945.

The decision came at UNESCO's 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee on Wednesday,...

during which the international body reviewed the follow-up measures promised by Japan when

its 23 industrial facilities including those on Hashima Island, which is located off the

coast of Nagasaki in southern Japan, were registered as World Cultural Heritage sites

back in 2015.

Tokyo promised to inform the world about the dark side of Hashima's history.

Yet, the fortress-like island which attracts thousands of visitors annually,... is only

introduced as a coal mine that was opened in the 1940s.

And breaking the promise it made to UNESCO,... Japan dropped the word "forced" when referring

to those who worked on the island, falsely saying that Koreans provided "voluntary help."

UNESCO called for the faithful implementation of its recommendations,... while urging Japan

and South Korea to engage in dialogue on the issue.

Seoul's foreign ministry called such decision "meaningful,"... adding it will continue to

seek dialogue with Tokyo as well as the international community.

The South Korean government's report says about 500 to 800 Koreans are estimated to

have been forced to work under harsh conditions on the island,... and over one-hundred died

from malnutrition or accidents.

UNESCO urges Japan to let world know of Hashima Island's brutal history - Duration: 2:00.

In the first half of the twentieth century, the Japanese Empire forced hundreds of Koreans

to do hard labor on Japan's Hashima Island.

Tokyo had promised a few years ago when Hashima was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site...

that it would tell the world about that dark period in the island's history

World Cup 2018: Preview: Japan v Poland - Duration: 3:08.

World Cup 2018: Preview: Japan v Poland

Japan are within touching distance of reaching the knockout phase of the FIFA World Cup™ for the third time in their history.

A draw against Poland will guarantee the Samurai Blue qualification from the group stage, while depending on other results, even defeat at the Volgograd Arena could grant the Japanese a spot in the Round of 16.

However, both players and coach alike are united in their conviction not to set out for a draw.

"Four points from two games is a decent result, but we haven't achieved anything yet," said captain Makoto Hasebe.

"When we step out on to that pitch, we have to think solely about winning.

You won't get the result when you hope that a draw will be enough.".

Poland are already going home from the tournament, but Adam Nawalka's side will not want to leave Russia with zero points on the board.

The Polish will do everything they can to make life difficult for Japan, as Robert Lewandowski, the leading marksman in European qualification, attempts to score his first goal at Russia 2018.

The team just needs a draw with Poland to qualify for the Round of 16, but there is no doubt the Samurai Blue will play at full throttle and try to get three points, avoiding any risks.

The coach Akira Nishino will probably start the same line-up as in the previous two matches.

The scorer of the key goal against Senegal, Keisuke Honda, is still viewed as the trump card and will most likely come off the bench.

If Poland fail to win against Japan, it will be their worst ever performance at a World Cup.

In 2002 and 2006, the team had also spurned their chances of qualification for the knockout rounds after two matches, but in both cases managed to win their final group-stage game.

A few changes are expected in the starting line-up, including potentially Lukasz Fabianski instead of Wojciech Szczesny in goal.

Japan (19) hold the World Cup record for most matches played at the tournament without ever receiving a red card.

Prior to the 2018 edition, the record was held by Colombia (18), but their run was ended by Carlos Sanchez's sending off in the third minute of their opening fixture against Japan.

Is Japan colonising an ASTEROID? Space agency to land probe 180million miles away - Duration: 5:25.

The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has sent a probe millions of miles into space to attempt to land on the space rock dubbed "Ryugu"

The Hayabusa2 ship is expected to reach the asteroid today.  And now conspiracists believe they are testing to see whether inhabiting the rock in the future is a possibility

One channel, , uploaded a video questioning whether the Japanese are hiding the truth

Tyler Glockner, who runs the page, speculated that the space experts are up to something bigger than they're letting off

Since he uploaded the clip earlier today, it has already racked up more than 62,000 hits

And viewers were quick to add their own opinions. "It doesn't look natural at all," one viewer claimed

Before another added: "They will probably try to colonise it." And a third stated: "The Japanese are up to something

" Top Facts About Asteroids Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun

The first asteroid was Ceres, discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801. There are currently over 600,000 known asteroids in our solar system

Most asteroids are found orbiting in the Asteroid Belt, a series of rings located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter

Should these be found, it could help to answer questions about how life started on Earth

Despite originally appearing round, Ryugu was found to be diamond-shaped. Mission principal investigator Seiji Sugita said in a statement on Friday that their predictions on its structure have changed over time

EPIC apocalyptic asteroid impact craters Conspiracy theorists claim the Earth is due a direct hit with an asteroid

Here's some extraordinary impact craters caused by alien objects 1 / 14 Getty Images Eastern Russia's Lake El'gygytgyn, which sits inside a small asteroid impact crater  He said: "As we approached Ryugu and were able to distinguish individual features in the asteroid's topology, it became clear that Ryugu has a land of rich terrain

"Numerous clusters of rock roll on the surface. Among these, a large rocky mass (about 150 meters [490 feet] across) stands out on the upper part of Ryugu due to its brighter colour

"The belt-shaped ring of peaks that surround the equator are also slightly brighter than their surroundings

"This colour difference may reflect a difference in material composition and the size of the particles that form the rock

"We can also see many sunken regions that look like craters. These depressions may have been made in collisions with other celestial bodies

A structure that looks like a grove is also visible."

NICE Japan's offside trap is one of the most pleasing things we've seen at the World Cup so far - Duration: 2:15.

NICE Japan's offside trap is one of the most pleasing things we've seen at the World Cup so far

Up against Senegal in their Group H clash, the Japanese pulled off one of the best offside traps we've ever seen.

We're sure England fans were keeping an extra eye on Japan's clash with Senegal this afternoon.

The Three Lions secured passage to the next round with their brilliant 6-1 win over Panama earlier today, which means they'll definitely play against someone from Group H in the last 16; be it Japan, Senegal, Poland or Colombia.

And while nothing's certain, there's a strong chance it could be either Japan or Senegal following their 2-2 draw today, which means both teams are in control of their own fate.

Simply put, if they each win their last game of the group, then they're through to the last 16.

Goals from Liverpool's Sadio Mane and a late strike from Keisuke Honda were the highlights of the game, but one moment towards the end of the first-half has got everyone talking.

It's not everyday you hear fans raving about an offside trap.

After all, it's more something you'd expect a coach to appreciate.

But plenty of us were loving Japan's wonderful movement when defending a Senegal set-piece on the 44th minute, which saw the Japanese back-line move in unison to leave five Senegalese attackers in an offside position as the ball was whipped into the box.

The quick movement and understanding between the players was poetry in motion.

Honestly, we can't remember an offside trap executed with such precision – and it'll no doubt go down as one of the most pleasing things we'll see at this World Cup.

Japan vs Poland Live Score, FIFA World Cup Live latest updates

Japan vs Poland Live Score, FIFA World Cup Live Updates: Poland suffered two defeats against Senegal and Colombia in their opening match and they are already out of the tournament.

But facing their final battle against Japan, the side will be hoping to pick up a consolation win before bowing out of the tournament.

Japan have been absolutely brilliant as they defeated Colombia in their opening game and then held Senegal to a 2-2 draw.

They will hope they can continue the same form and reach the Round of 16 without any troubles.

Catch Live score and updates as Japan and Poland face each other in Group H match.

It is only the second time Poland are facing an Asian opponent in World Cup finals.

They last met Korea Republic back in 2002 in which they lost 2-0.

Will they have the same result tonight?.

Japan focus on winning not drawing, says captain Makoto Hasebe.

Japan's only planning is for victory against already eliminated Poland and the Blue Samurai will not think about playing for a draw to qualify for the World Cup's knockout rounds, according to captain Makoto Hasebe.

Japan's 2-2 draw with Senegal on Sunday left them top of Group H but level on four points and goal difference with the Africans, with Colombia on three.

One point against Poland would be enough for Akira Nishino's side to reach the last 16 for the third time, regardless of what happens in the Colombia-Senegal match which will be played at the same time on Thursday.

"Japan are not the kind of team that can aim for a point and go and carry that plan out," Hasebe told Japanese media on Monday, on a sweltering day at their Kazan training base.

It is for the third time in Russia, that Poland have exited the World Cup tournament in the group stages itself.

They earlier finished in the group stages in 2002 and 2006.

Japan won both of their previous showdowns against Poland without conceding a goal.

Boh were friendly matches and the last one, which was held in Lodz in March 2002, ended 2-0 following goals from Hidetoshi Nakata and Naohiro Takahara.

Poland's fixture against Japan marks an exciting achievement for European football.

In this match, it will be for the 1000th time that a European nation will appear at the FIFA World Cup.

Poland are already out of the tournament but they want to leave the competition with a head held high.

Japan faced too many issues before the start of the tournament.

The coach was sacked and was replaced just two weeks before they travelled to Russia.

But the side which is packing experienced players has managed to restore faith among fans.

Japan defeated Colombia in their opening match and then went on to hold Senegal to a 2-2 draw.

Now up against Poland, the Asian nation just need to draw to make it to the knockout stages.

Can they get past Poland?.
