Online Master's Program: Educational Technology - Duration: 2:52.

[Dr. Sweany] The Masters of Educational Technology at Texas A&M is a completely online program

We have students from all over the state and actually all over the country who

are students in our program.

[Corrina] I'm a graduate student taking the distance

education courses, and I love it, it's so convenient for me. Right now I'm a 2nd grade

teacher at Ogden Elementary School in San Antonio, so the distant education

courses have just been very beneficial as a full-time employee and a full-time student

[Dr. Sweany] The mission of the Educational Technology program at Texas A&M is to

develop students who can design effective and engaging learning

experiences using both today's and future technologies. All of our faculty

members in the Educational Technology program are full-time faculty members

and so they're extremely responsive you get very detailed feedback on your work

and on your assignments I'm able to talk to my professors through email or some

of them have like the virtual conferences which make it really

convenient. There's so much collaboration with your peers that it doesn't seem

distant from the community at all.

[Dr. Sweany] You can turn around and immediately apply

what you learned in class one day into your classroom or into your professional context.

[Austin] I graduated from the educational technology program at Texas A&M University.

I am the Director of Operations and Instructional design at

Skypack Incorporated.

Anyone who is considering instructional design or educational technology

should definitely consider the Ed Tech program at Texas A&M University.

I was able to instantly take what I was learning

and put it directly into practice and that was very refreshing.

[Dr. Sweany] We have a lot of students who are looking to become full-time instructional designers

there's also a lot of students who are interested in becoming technology

coaches at their schools or working as program evaluators or some media

developers, that they want to be on the development side of creating engaging

instruction using the skills that they learn while in the program.

[Corrina] I would definitely tell other students that are seeking the educational technology

program that it's very beneficial if you want to know the instructional design

behind education and curriculum. That's helped me in my own classroom, my lesson planes

and just understanding where to start and how to finish out with all of my students.

[Dr. Sweany] It is true what they say, the Aggie community is a special community

and I've noticed that even with our online students that they come here

because we have a strong program in educational technology but they stay and

they love the program because of the community that they become a part of.

GO TO COLLEGE, BUT NOW THERE'S

JUST THIS BIG PUSH FOR CAREER

AND TECH ED.

SHELLEY, WHY DO YOU THINK THAT

IS?

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION, THAT

SOMEHOW IT WAS JUST WHERE YOU

PUSHED KIDS, YOU KNOW, 15, 20

YEARS AGO THAT COULDN'T BE--

YOU PUSHED THEM TO THE

VOCATIONAL COURSES.

BUT WHAT WE REALIZE NOW IS WE

HAVE A LOT OF SOB CONCERN--

JOBS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

WE HAVE A GAP IN THE BUILDING

TRADES AND HEALTH CARE

PROFESSION THE, AND WE'RE

STARTING TO SEE THAT THIS IS

WHERE OUR JOBS ARE IN THE

COMMUNITY, AND WE NEED STUDENTS

TO GET THE CAREER AND TECHNICAL

TRAINING TO GO INTO THOSE

FIELDS.

BUT ALSO RECOGNIZING THAT WE'RE

NOT SAYING THAT DON'T GO THE

COLLEGE ROUTE, WE'RE JUST TRYING

THE MAKE SURE STUDENTS AS THEY

COME OUT OF THE K-12 SETTING ARE

BOTH CAREER AND COLLEGE READY.

AND SO MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS

KNOW WHAT THE CAREER AND

TECHNICAL EDUCATION

OPPORTUNITIES ARE THAT LEAD TO

JOBS MANY OUR COMMUNITY, IN OUR

STATE, ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

YOU'RE SEEING THAT BECAUSE WE

HAVE AN AGING WORK FORCE AND A

LOT OF OUR TRADITIONALLY THOUGHT

OF AS VOCATIONAL FIELDS THAT

WORKING WHILE YOU'RE EARNING

SO I THINK USING THOSE MEDIA

OUTLETS JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER

ENTITIES DO TO JUST KEEP SHARING

THAT THAT INFORMATION AND

PUTTING IT FORWARD, I THINK IT

HELPS THEM CONNECT, AND THEY CAN

COME, YOU KNOW, AND ASK THEIR

SCHOOL, THEIR SCHOOL COUNSELOR,

THEIR TEACHERS, OKAY, WAIT, I

SAW THIS, YOU KNOW?

HOW DO I LEARN MORE.

AND THEN WE CAN POINT THEM AND

CONNECT THEM WITH, YOU KNOW, OUR

RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY

WHERE THE JOBS ARE, AND OFTEN

TIMES ONCE YOU SHOW THEM, YOU

KNOW, HERE'S THE DEMAND LOCALLY

OR REGIONALLY-- AND, BY THE

WAY, THEY CAN START ON THE DUAL

I am going to be studying interactive media and games,

Master of Fine Arts at University of Southern California.

I have wanted to pursue this course for quite sometime

and it is my interest to develop virtual reality applications

in video game development and bring India's virtual reality industry into international standards.

As Australia's Education Minister

it's wonderful to be playing a part in the launch of Be You. This wonderful framework

which will ensure we build a mentally healthy next generation.

It's absolutely important that when it comes to early childhood learning, when it comes to what we do at primary

schools and in our secondary schools,

that we have a focus on the mental health of our young Australians.

We pay a hell of a lot of attention to our physical health, but it's absolutely important that we get the balance right.

That we treat our mental health as importantly as we do our physical health.

In one way or another we've all been touched by those

who have in one way or another had to battle with a mental illness.

Whether it be as a parent as a brother or sister or as as a relative and friend.

So with with this resource will be ensuring that not only do our

educators, our principals, our teachers, have a resource which will help them educate

young Australians,

but also it will be something to help them to be able to talk with friends and relatives as they meet the challenges of

mental health as well.

Can I acknowledge and pay tribute to Beyond Blue for the work they've done with this program?

Can I also thank headspace for what they've done an Early Childhood Australia.

This is an incredibly important tool as

Minister Hunt has said. It's very

important that we get the message out there to those especially
