Another Korean victim of Japanese sexual slavery during World War II has passed away.

According to a civic group that advocates for the victims, a 93 year old woman, known

to the media only by her surname Lee, died early Monday morning after suffering from

poor health . Lee was kidnapped on her way home from work

in 1942... at the age of 17.

She was forced to serve dozens of Japanese soldiers everyday in brothels in Manchuria.

With Lee's death, there are only 24 South Korean victims still living.

Seoul and Tokyo agreed in 2015 to set up a foundation to help the victims -- the so-called

"comfort women."

But the two sides are now working to disband the foundation... because the victims say

the 2015 deal did not reflect their wishes.

JAPAN VLOG #7 - ANIMATE & KAITEN SUSHI - Duration: 9:33.

That is sweet potato with ice-cream

Jiae wanted to try it since long time ago

Let's see how it is

How do you eat this?

Look, let's eat

For me it is also the first time

It looks good

How is it?

It's good!

Is it cold or hot?

The ice-cream is cold but...

the sweet potato is warm

That's why the contrast is very nice

It was delicious!

But now we have to find a place where to throw it away

Because in Japan there are no trashcans in the street

There's no way to find a place where to throw away the trash

And they say that you have to keep your garbage in your pockets until you arrive home

However in Spain there is a trashcan every 10 meters

but it is more dirty than here

"Use me", Jiae calls them "use me"

But seriously, here there are no trashcans but it's cleaner than in Spain

What a contradiction, right?

We have to be more clean

We came to Animate

Or "animeeto"

Otaku's paradise

That's the Shonen Jump...

and other magazines

Let's see what there is over here...

Manga

A lot of manga...and super cheap

Wow so much manga

Here are the Pokemon stuff

Damn, so cute

I want it, I want it

Here is the figure's zone

Dragon ball...

Naruto...

Wow so many figures

Jiae is getting very bored here

a bit right?

The truth is that I wanted to see this place

But there are not so many things that interest me either

In the past maybe there was something but...

It's been a while that I don't follow these things

And I don't know anything

Moreover, how would you use this?

You put it in your bag right?

That's already too much for me

Waw, I want this!

This mushroom

It brings back memories

This is the last dinner we are going to have in Japan

And we came with Jiae's parents

to a Kaiten Sushi!

Which is called 'Kura Sushi'

Green tea, right?

Green tea

It's called 'matcha'

This is how you order the food here

Wah, this looks good

How do you...?

I'm going to order...the 'Tonkotsu Ramen'

one...

Order

Wah isn't that too much?

Is this wasabi very spicy?

Wah, I can smell it already

This one seems to be very spicy

Hhhm...I love it

This one is delicious

Let's see...let's try...there

So good!!

Here...in Japan...

it's another story

I'm not kidding, it's delicious

another one

Looks at this one

It looks amazing!

There is not this in Spain

It's not this delicious

And look, here the amount of rice is much smaller

and there is more fish

In Spain the make it with a lot of rice and little fish

Yes

So good!

Woah!

Ramen!

It smells amazing!

Is it good?

Delicious!

Take the meat!

Let's see how is this one

Made with meat

So good!

Really delicious!

And now all the dishes we ate...go there

She has a baby

all what she ate

We ate so well...how many? 30 dishes?

31 dishes

We are 31 dishes

two people

Ah! four people!

I love this place

I'm going to miss it

Byebye

Byebye...sushi byebye

Good bye sushi

We came to the supermarket to do a last shopping before going back to Spain

Japanese things

Show me a bit what we have here

Look, we bought...

Furikake!

A lot of furikake

All the flavours

but well, there are many more!

Look, look, look! a lot!

'Hayashi'

There is 'hayashi' as well

It is similar to curry right?

It is very good

And 'tsuyu'

'Tsuyu'?

To make japanese food right?

And also this

To make sushi

But a bit different

Yeah, it's different

It is very good

And over here...

Look

Here...'Dorayakis'

They have red bean paste inside

As I always say "It's not chocolate"

Many people think that it is chocolate

But it is not chocolate

And butter

With butter

And look, this...

so pretty

This is very japanese

In Japan they always present everything very nicely

Everything is very pretty and well packed

Look, this...

What's that? Could it be real gold?

Sometimes I have seen food with real gold inside

It could be

And this, very well packed...

But the problem is that

It's very pretty, but it always has so much plastic

It's always plastic bags inside of plastig bags

This one too

Plastic inside of plastic

It's all plastic inside of plastic

And it generates a lot of waste

Too much plastic everywhere

However, no one can defeat japanese at making a beautiful presentation

Everything is gorgeous

City Nara in Japan * Dani Travel TV - Duration: 2:54.

In this episode, we visited the city Nara in Japan.

We looked at the shopping street, the Kofukuji temple complex and the deer in Nara Park.

From Osaka, we took the train to Kintetsu-Nara Station.

From there we went through the shopping street to Sarusawa pond.

We walked up the stairs to the temple complex Kofukuji, where we visited the national treasure hall.

The temple features several buildings of great historic value, including a five-storied pagoda, a three-storied pagoda,

Central Golden Hall, Eastern Golden Hall and Kofukuji's National Treasure Museum.

At 50 meters the five-storied pagoda is Japan's second tallest, just seven meters shorter than the five-storied pagoda at Kyoto's Toji Temple.

Nara Park is a large park in central Nara.

Established in 1880, it is the location of many of Nara's main attractions including Todaiji, Kasuga Taisha, Kofukuji and the Nara National Museum.

The park is home to hundreds of freely roaming deer.

They beg for food and when you give them, they become very violent and you have to run away.

If you have any questions, you can write it in the comments section.

겨울 나고야 여행 Nagoya, Japan traveling [한국어도 자막 필수!] - Duration: 11:40.

Well

Hello, I'm Yonyony. I traveled from Nagoya for two nights and three days from December 14th to 16th.

I tried to make a movie that I am proud of to have boasted that I traveled so well because I came to play so much fun (?)

Actually I was going to leave on the 13th, but on the 13th there was a lot of snow in Seoul? So I missed the plane because I was stumbling.

So the next day, I almost never missed the feeling of a sense of emancipation that started almost overnight and landed at the airport the last time I came down to the airport at the latest.

Because I write And it's the same again this time.

And then again, the trip plan did not work, and once I got on the train to the city,

I thought Nagoya was a small country town, but it was a big city. Since then, I have been totally confused.

I could see Midland Square right in front of me, so I went into Midland Square first.

It was an enormous office shop with shopping and corporate buildings, and I jumped all of that up and went up to the observatory. There is a little bit of price for an observatory.

But when you come to this observatory, you can see all the views of Nagoya city. I can see at a glance

All of the building walls are made of tin glass, so you can see all directions in the north, south, east and west.

Even if you look at it, the size of the city is huge. Who said Nagoya was a rural village

But the city is big, but there are not many tourists,

I left the Midlands and headed to Noritake Crab Garden. There are not many tourists in Nagoya itself, but Noritake Park

Nagoya's representative sightseeing spots are not included in the list, so it was a more subdued look. So I really did not expect much

It was so beautiful than I thought. After walking around the park, I walked to Sakae Street.

Sakae Park is the busiest street in Nagoya

I heard that the Japanese Apple store was much cheaper than Korea before I traveled

I also found the Apple Store as soon as I came to try to buy something cheaper and cheaper. But the Nagoya people do not know how to speak English

A foreigner barely found the way. The Apple Store is very simple and clean.

I bought hot air pots these days at a price of about 45,000 won less than Korea.

And then back out into the street If you see a convenience store,

I went to the nightlife of Nagoya by buying famous cream bread at a convenience store in Japan.

Actually, I wanted to talk while walking around without narration, but I was so embarrassed that I could not do it.

So I finally walked without saying a word, and I got to the Oasis building. Is the building a little pretty? Next to this building is Central Park and next to it

I have the Nagoya Tower. I went to the Nagoya Tower to the end, but the oasis building was just a shopping mall

I did not go down.

On the first day, I had a lot of conversation with David, who I met in Nagoya, and I had a good time and slept until 2 o'clock.

And the next day I was originally planning to go to Nagoya Castle, but David said that there is an elevator in Nagoya Castle.

It is a modern building with almost no classical remains, and the nearby Inuyama Castle is much more beautiful and recommended

I headed to Inuyama Castle. Inuyama Castle is about 40 minutes from Nagoya by train.

It was really cool. Than you think. I would not have known this place if I did not meet David, but it's more than I expected.

There were a lot of tourists on the weekend, except for me, all of them were Japanese people.

It was impressive to pray for each person's wishes.

I'm Japanese, all I learned is Annie. So I wanted to understand, but I did not understand ...

I still appreciated the good scenery and came up to Inuyama Castle. I can go up to Inuyama Castle with an admission fee.

The way up is really dangerous. Still, when you come up, the view is again. In the morning,

In the afternoon I went to meet my mother Brazilian mother who I came to Brazil.

I went to Dick Temple (?) With my mother who lives in Komoyaki, Nagoya. I prayed for a son to be born.

And two hours after praying, I got a son at a supermarket in Komoyaki. Papa Julio gave me a cute rabbit doll.

And I stopped by a Peruvian restaurant run by my mom's cousin.

I went back to my mother's house and had a really good meal.

The things that used to be fun in the past, no matter how time passes, I think it's always fun to talk about it.

I have not had a chance to eat Japanese food because I have had so much fun with so many good people

I was so happy and it was time to distribute.

And this trip goes up and down the cubic

It seems to be a pleasant memory.

I hope you enjoyed this video.

BIGGEST Salamander in Japan! - Duration: 20:00.

- Alright, comin' up.

Alright guys, I'm going in.

Whoa.

There's the head, there's the head.

Look at it, it's the size of a cantaloupe.

(energetic music)

(animal roars)

- [Coyote Voiceover] The giant salamander is considered

a special national monument by the Japanese government,

and for centuries, it has lurked

in the shadows of myth and lore.

Ranking as the second largest salamander species

in the world, they can grow to lengths

of nearly five feet, classifying them as monstrous

in the world of amphibians.

The Brave Wilderness team and I

had the incredible honor of working

alongside renowned salamander expert Dr. Sumio Okada,

and we traveled deep into the wilds

of the Tottori Prefecture to find and collect biometric data

on these elusive river dragons.

- Wait, wait, wait, something right here.

Right here, we got one, got one!

Wow, look at that!

Have you ever seen an amphibian of that size?

- [Coyote Voiceover] Due to their vulnerable status

and strict licensing, only Okada Sensei

was allowed to catch and handle the wild specimens.

Yet when it comes to giants in captivity,

the regulations are a bit more flexible.

Today we are visiting the Hanzaki Research Institute

of Japan.

For over a decade, their mission has been to research

and help to ensure the survival

of the Japanese giant salamander.

In the field, I did my best to learn all I could

from Okada Sensei.

My diligence toward being a good student

in the art of giant salamander research

ultimately earned my teacher's trust,

and I was given the invitation

to assist in the yearly data collection

for the institute's oldest, largest,

and most cherished salamander, the great LsanshMuo.

- Alright, so Okada Sensei said wait right here.

He's going up there into the enclosure

to check on the salamander.

Now, this is one of the largest Japanese giant salamanders

ever found that is currently on record.

He tells me it is absolutely enormous.

It's going to dwarf anything that we saw in the field.

I'm super excited, I can barely contain myself right now

because I'm gonna be able to get hands-on

with this animal to help with the measurements.

So the role is gonna sorta be reversed here.

I'm gonna be collecting the measurements,

Okada Sensei is going to be writing them down.

Are you guys ready for this?

We are going to see one of the largest

Japanese giant salamanders ever seen.

- [Mark] Let's do it!

- Let's go!

Oh no wait, he just told us to wait right here.

- [Mark] Oh.

(Coyote laughs)

- Oh, I'm like, jumping out of my skin right now.

- [Mark] Alright, ready?

- Yeah. - [Mark] Alright!

- We're ready!

- [Mark] Let's do it!

- Let's do it, guys.

Oh man!

You guys nervous?

- [Mark] I don't know, I'm excited.

- [Coyote Voiceover] Following in the footsteps

of my teacher, we ascended a flight of stairs

and entered the paddock of this ancient creature.

Its fenced and fortified containment area

wasn't necessarily designed to keep the salamander in,

but instead was designed to keep

any potential predators out.

- Now, Okada Sensei has quarantined the biggest one down

in one enclosure for us so it's easier to find,

easier for us to catch and collect the biometric data.

So it's in this one?

- Do you see it?

- Oh!

Right there, look at that!

Look, that's its nose sticking out.

Whoa!

Hold on, get a shot, get a shot.

That is a giant salamander.

Alright, so what we're gonna do

is actually enter into the enclosure,

we'll peel back these boards,

gently get the salamander out into the open water.

We're gonna have to get it into a net

and then up here to collect the biometric data,

but we'll spend a couple minutes there

inside the enclosure to sort of look at some of its features

and just be in awe of what this creature is.

We'll come around like this.

- [Mark] Is it gonna take all that weight?

- I'll let you go in first.

I'm gonna leave my pack up here, guys.

- [Mark] Alright.

- Alright guys, I'm going in.

- [Mark] 'Kay, careful.

- Getting into the water.

Woo, that is cold!

That is some cold water.

Alright here, hand me your camera.

- Oh boy.

Here you go, Mario.

Woo!

- Before we get the salamander out of there,

lemme see if I can get a shot of it

with the GoPro just hunkered down here.

So it's right under here, right?

- [Dr. Okada] Here.

- Okay.

Now, let's try to move really, really slowly

so that we don't muddy the water.

We wanna try to keep it as clear as possible.

I'm gonna have to just go, sort of just go blind

on this here.

Hopefully the camera is picking up the salamander.

You can see--

- [Mark] It's definitely moving backwards.

More of the tail's coming out the back.

- Lotta debris in there.

Oh, oh, oh, I see it, you're right.

It is starting to come out the back.

Well, maybe we're getting a shot, tough to tell.

- [Mark] Oh man, it's big.

- There it is, it's right there.

- [Mark] It's actually backing up, it looks like.

- Oh my goodness, it is huge.

That is just its tail.

Its tail is like, the size of a canoe paddle.

This is the largest amphibian I have ever seen in my life.

It's time to reveal the beast.

You ready?

- I do--

- You do the rocks?

- Yeah, and you do--

- I'll get the boards?

Okay.

Guys, this is something that is done once a year,

removing the salamander from the breeding paddock

to collect its biometric data.

This is a very special day, an incredible honor

for all of us to be a part of this process.

This is it.

- [Mark] You ready? - This is it, yeah.

Trying to not disturb the silt.

Whoa.

Look at that.

Are you kidding me?

Look at the size of that thing.

There's the head, there's the head.

Look at it, the size of a cantaloupe!

Whoa, my goodness that is a monstrous salamander!

- [Mark] It's so much bigger than I thought.

Wait, there's two!

- Yeah, there's a smaller one in here.

Smaller one in here, there's another one over here,

but that is the big guy.

Okada Sensei, so what's the best plan from here?

Is it okay for me to go in and bring the salamander

around to this side?

- Yeah.

- Okay.

Got it, thank you.

Now here's a question, before we get it in the net,

can you bring it up here and can I slightly lift it

to reveal it for the camera?

- Yeah.

- Yeah, okay.

Before we put it in the net, 'cause once it's in the net,

it'll be really hard to see.

We actually need this smaller one into the next tube here.

C'mere, buddy.

Oh, they're so unique-feeling!

There you go, you go in here.

Whoa!

Wow!

This is the first contact I've made

with one of these salamanders.

It is incredible!

C'mon, big guy.

There we go.

Slowly coax him down through here, there you go.

Wow, look at that.

An absolute giant.

What an ancient creature, a living fossil.

This animal is well over a hundred years of age.

Look at how cool that thing is.

Can you believe that?

Look at it, whoa.

Whoa, he's so slimy.

Impossible to hold on to.

That's why we have to use a dip net

to actually get it out of here.

Not only is it strong, it is also incredibly slippery.

Alright, so we're gonna gently, there we go.

Slide down into that net.

Okay, the salamander is safely inside of the dip net.

So I'm gonna go up and Okada Sensei

is gonna pass the giant up to me.

Oh, heavy.

Got it?

- [Mark] You okay?

- Yep.

Whoa!

Got him, got him, got him, got him, got him.

Yep, good, good, good.

Whoa!

It is strong!

It is heavy!

Wow!

Alright, that is me cradling a Japanese giant salamander.

Tail first?

- Head first, okay.

So this end opens up.

Okay.

Set him here.

There we go.

Okay.

I do have to be careful that I'm not bitten.

The do have extremely sharp teeth,

and this is a very large animal.

So I have to gently get this opened up

and he will slide out this end.

Alright, here we go.

Look at that.

- [Mark] Whoa.

- Look at that giant.

Hi, buddy.

Okay.

Wow!

Okay, got my hand underneath the jaw.

There we go.

Okay, I'm gonna gently slide it down here, Okada Sensei,

so we can fully reveal the salamander.

There we go.

So slippery.

The layer of mucus that coats their bodies is,

it's just like, you see that?

It's like snot.

And we wanna put as little stress

on the creature as possible.

We're gonna quickly collect the biometric data,

get a couple of cool shots, and then release it

right back into the enclosure.

But let's just take one second

to admire the design of this animal's body.

Look at how wide it is.

Look at the head.

And you know what?

I'm looking, I can't even see the eyes.

The eyes are right up front here.

They have such teeny tiny little eyes.

Get a little water on it, there.

Oh, that's good.

Yes, yes, yes.

Wow.

- [Mark] Its head is bigger than your head.

- It is!

I feel like my entire head could fit inside of its mouth,

but that's not a place that you wanna find yourself.

Look at the tail.

Enormous, absolutely enormous.

So much power in this animal, and when I was cradling it

as it came up out of the enclosure,

you could feel just how strong it truly was.

Okay, so the first thing we're gonna end up getting

is the total length of the animal.

Oh, you hear that noise that it's making?

- [Mark] Yeah, like a hiss.

- It's like a grumbling!

Sh sh sh sh sh sh sh.

Oh, he's gonna push that rock, push those rocks down.

Okay.

Okay cool, we've kinda got him in a good position

to get the total length here.

Right there, okay.

We're just gonna go with this here.

We are at 49 and a half.

49 and a half is what it appears.

In centimeters, that is 126 centimeters.

Wow.

That is a giant.

Okay, so we're not gonna do the snout to vent length.

It's too much to put this animal on its back

to get that measurement.

So the next thing we're gonna do is get the head width

and also the tail height and finally its body weight.

We've got some rain rolling in

so we're gonna have to do this quickly, guys.

Alright, I'm gonna get the tail height first.

I wanna do that at the highest point if possible.

It is right at 14.

14 centimeters.

- [Dr. Okada] 14.

- 21.

- [Dr. Okada] 21.

- 21.

Alright, head width 21 centimeters.

Absolutely dwarfs the giant that we caught in the field.

Alright, so the next thing to do?

- Body weight, okay.

So how do we get the body weight?

We have to put it in--

- Okay, put it inside the blue container

and then put that on top of this.

Okay, great.

So we're putting a little bit of water

inside of the container

just to keep the salamander hydrated.

You don't want its skin to stick to the basin.

Alright, so we're saying that the weight of the container

with the water is 16 kilograms.

We will put the salamander inside

and then subtract that weight from 16.

- Coyote, lie down next to it real quick.

- It's almost impossible to comprehend

how big this thing is, you're right,

unless we get something like a human next to it for scale.

Look at that.

Alright, now this, we have to do this quickly

and very gently because it's very, very slippery.

So we have as little chance for error as possible.

C'mere, big guy.

Okay.

- Head first.

- Yep, okay, there you go.

Real gentle.

Alright.

Oh man.

So big, look at that.

For the main episode the other night

when we were in the field, we had a small container.

This is as big as it gets.

- [Coyote Voiceover] So why is this giant salamander

in captivity?

Great question.

Many years ago during the building of a bridge system,

its home was destroyed and the animal

was accidentally injured by a piece of heavy machinery.

The construction team quickly realized what they had found

and immediately alerted the Hanzaki Institute.

The good news is that the salamander survived.

The bad news is that its home was destroyed,

and as a displaced animal of this size and stature,

it was decided that the great LsanshMuo

should be kept in captivity.

- So that just goes to show you guys

that even if an animal like this loses an appendage,

something like its foot or its toes,

it still has the ability to survive against all odds.

I mean, this is considered a national treasure right here.

When you look at an animal like this

and you think to yourself wow,

this has been on the planet longer than most of us.

It is certainly something that needs to be preserved,

that needs to be cherished and honored,

and it's really cool that this salamander

is now a part of the breeding program

here at the Hanzaki Institute.

Alright, guys ready to get the weight?

- [Mark] Yep, let's get the weight.

- Okay, so hands off of the container,

we've got it perfectly balanced, salamander on the scale,

and we are at just about 30 kilograms.

Remember, we need to take 16 away from that,

so 14 kilograms is the weight of this amphibian.

An absolute giant.

Cannot believe it.

Never thought that I would see a salamander of this size.

- [Mark] Man, so cool!

Alright, cool.

Do we wanna look at some of its interesting characteristics?

- Sure, yeah.

Let's take it back down off of the scale.

We've only got a couple more minutes with it

and then we gotta get it back into its enclosure.

Okay.

Right here.

Alright.

Alright guys, now the last thing we need to do

is sorta just examine the salamander's features,

make sure its feet and all the aspects of its body

are in really good shape.

So the first thing we're gonna look at

are the four feet here.

The hands, look at that, look at how big that hand is.

Now, these salamanders have four toes on the front feet

and on the back feet they have five toes, check that out.

And those digits are about as big in width as my fingers,

look at that.

Holding hands with a Japanese giant salamander.

Salamander is incredibly healthy.

When you get down to here, you'll notice

all of the muscle in this tail.

It is just a solid mass of power, look at that.

A large rudder that helps this animal move

through the environment and also to quickly maneuver itself

if it needs to escape from a predator.

Now, look at these flaps of skin

that run along the sides of the body here.

They're actually able to absorb oxygen

through those flaps, which helps them to breathe underwater.

As we know, they also have lungs,

actually it was just blowing some bubbles up front there.

- [Mark] So this animal breathes through its skin.

- It can.

They of course, they have lungs,

they do come to the surface to get a big gulp of air,

but they can stay submerged for hours at a time,

especially when the males are defending the den.

As we know, the males are often times called den masters.

They protect the eggs, they protect the larva.

- [Mark] So Coyote, what does it feel like?

- Like a big, wet, muscular slinky.

Go ahead, Mark, reach down in there,

get some water on your hands first

and just give it a little pet, feel the skin.

Very dense, right?

- Oh wow.

A lot than actually I imagined.

I imagined it being a lot slimier.

It's not that slimy.

- Yeah, no.

But they do secrete more mucus if they're feeling stressed.

So it's really good, you can see

the animal's completely calm at this point,

just keeping it in a little bit of water

helps keep it hydrated.

Alright, well I think we've collected

all of the necessary data, which means it is time for us

to safely get this salamander back into its enclosure.

Alright.

That never gets any easier.

- [Mark] Salamander coming in.

- Got him.

- [Mark] Good good good.

- Okay.

This, alright, here we go.

Alright, got him.

There he is.

Alright.

Oh, he's so slippery.

You ready?

- Yep. - Okay.

Alright, here he goes.

Wow.

That was cool.

Okada Sensei, thank you so much

for giving us the chance to get up close

with this national treasure.

What an incredible day for the Brave Wilderness crew

and a true honor to work with this salamander here in Japan.

I'm Coyote Peterson, be brave, stay wild.

We'll see you on the next adventure.

- [Mark] Nice! - Yeah!

- [Mark] High five! (laughs)

- Alright, I'm getting out of this cold water.

- [Coyote Voiceover] Working alongside Okada Sensei

in the field and getting hands-on

with Japanese giant salamanders

while visiting the Hanzaki Institute

was one of the most meaningful experiences

the Brave Wilderness team and I have ever had.

Approximately 41% of the world's amphibian species

are threatened, and giant salamanders are no exception.

The significance this animal holds in Japanese culture

cannot be matched, and it was a true honor

that we as visitors to this sacred land

were entrusted with telling these stories.

Conservation efforts for the giant salamander

are imperative for its survival,

and if you would like to help,

make sure to visit bushidojapan.com

to ensure that there is a future for these majestic animals.

If you missed our thrilling adventure

into the mysterious world of giant salamanders,

make sure to go back and watch,

as we got the slippery amphibian up close for the cameras.

And don't forget, subscribe and click the notification bell

so you can join me and the crew on our next wild adventure.

- What's very distinct about this salamander

as compared to the hellbender is look at all these

fleshy little nodules on the head.

We didn't see that with the hellbender.

Japanese Sumo Food: Eating Chankonabe Stew (ちゃんこ鍋) | Tokyo, Japan - Duration: 16:23.

alright guys good morning so today we are having a sumo themed day here in

Tokyo we are planning to take part in a few different sumo themed activities so

we've come to Rio Goku station and in this area they have a lot of restaurants

where you can have a sumo meal this is like hearty heavy stew that sumo

wrestlers eat to put on weight so we're going to a Sumo restaurant we're gonna

have Chankonabe (ちゃんこ鍋) that hearty stew apparently the restaurant we're going to

also puts on sumo wrestling performances so hopefully the timing works out so

that we can see sumo wrestlers in action and then after that we're going to be

visiting the sumo Museum which isn't too far from the station also this morning

we tried going to one of the sumo stables where supposedly you can see the

sumo wrestlers in action doing their practice in the morning they typically

train from 7:30 to 10:30 but we got there and it was closed there were no

even had to shut it they had the shutters closed sad but I mean there's

still a chance that we'll see wrestlers with lunch let's go okay so we found the

restaurant that specializes in sumo food it is called Hananomai Ryokoku and

it's right outside the train station it's actually underneath me rocks so you

can hear a line and the first time Sam was like yeah actually oh you can hear

right now I don't know if you can hear that guys

but we can feel it right I heard I can feel the table vibrating so fine we've

actually experienced what to earthquake since we've been until

- yeah mild ones said it was alright and also we're sitting in a pretty cool spot

like you've got the the sumo ring right here let me show you guys right there I

don't think there's gonna be a performance we don't know like we're

very lost in translation at the moment yeah there's very little information

like no timings listed so I mean we came here as soon as the restaurant opened at

11:30 I'm hoping maybe there will be a permanence maybe not enough and behind

you this hopeful yeah behind you this is really cool artwork

as well yeah I mean even if there is no sumo wrestling like worst-case scenario

it's still a really cool restaurant yeah the cool vibe and it's gonna be our

first time to try this food as well yeah

so the food arrived super quickly I know look shockingly quick they're ready for

us yes so we order two separate sets yeah went

for the chanko nabe yes is the the sumo stew to put on weight and we got the

chicken one and if you comes with like chicken skin oh yeah so yeah that's the

protein heavy meal because then got an egg there what else do you have

there's some tofu yeah yeah Wow always a really cool surprise yeah I feel like

this is for rice like you're probably gonna or maybe it's for your soup

where's your rice oh the rice isn't here yeah lift that up yeah I will lift it up

if I can't I can't get a grip on it like suction yeah oh here we go

yeah so the whole idea is that you eat the stew with rice and beer so that

you're getting lots of calories into your system yeah so it looks really good

for you cook for a high calorie meal and it's most a little very high protein

meal as well yes and the couple of those boxes I got the tempura set yes with

sashimi right I have some tofu with a bit of

ginger this looks like a pickled radish I have sashimi this is my my miso soup

oh you got me so yeah a little salad here Wow umm yeah this is looking really

good but I'm obviously I'll seem to be trying Sam's yep as soon as that cooks

but this is fun this is fun like I don't know what's gonna happen with the

wrestling are we gonna see sumo or not who knows we've got a good-looking meal

irregardless yes and that's what we came for Alice okay let's dig in I can dig

into mine you're gonna have to wait for yours event I'm starting with the

tempura so we're just wait we're still bidding for this just to cook over here

so we know how is the wondering like what the sauce was for and I finally

clued in like da tempura yeah what else make sure you save me half of that I was

so sweet oh that's wonderful yeah yeah we've got like these big

little shrimp ease yeah we have mushroom mushroom we hum and went yeah I think

this one's fish yeah so a little bit of everything we've everything here we've

got sesame so I'm gonna grab this piece let's do you got tuna salmon what sabi

oh yeah sake it's a nice addition I'm glad that we both have it others yes we

both got sashimi with our set sure did how's that it's just like a very smooth

fish that's good we've got some pickled radish oh yes

yeah well sweet mommy so how this struggle opening this it creates suction

and then you can't lift the lid off so yeah let me show you here I'm gonna grab

my little chopsticks and just swirl it around so will that around there we go

yeah we've got some seaweed going on in there looks good let's try it and we've

got tofu it's just a little hint of ginger we've actually been eating this

as a breakfast item it usually shows up with rice and salmon as a set meal and

quite like it sounds good and of course a big bowl of rice because the whole

idea of these meals is up you're trying to maximize calories put on some weight

also I read that a lot of the restaurants in this area are run by ex

sumo wrestlers yes that's right mm-hmm so then they open restaurants to help

the new generation of sumo wrestlers eat well and you know add a few kilos is

your mouth watering just thinking about that chanko nabe over their eyes

she's just been cooking right in front of her eyes and one thing that I didn't

do until I should have done a little bit sooner was was move around the chicken a

bit cuz only part of it was cooking now I've got a deeply submerged fully cover

so yeah they should almost be done but in the meantime I'm gonna try everything

I have here as well yeah but might important enough with your tempura mmm a

little bit of sauce here yeah

mm-hmm that's a really good time for us mm-hmm

like I have to admit we've been you know a lot of temper if I'm like the grocery

store yeah oh it's nothing compared oh my gosh is so much better yeah and just

look at how much how much shrimp you get in there versus matter the ratio of

ingredients that's inside the batter is just perfect oh my god let's taste it

moving on yeah everything else you have it's like quite similar to my side video

all right you've got that little salad but that solid is pretty nondescript

yeah no but I find it refreshing like a summer salad I'll give it that

and over here a tofu I think is it JIT I wonder if it's a ginger tofu yeah mine

had a little bit of ginger it's not a whole lot subtle hint of that yeah it's

a you tried this you tried the salmon one yeah I tried both already good good

see my favorite between the two um you know the two is quite nice smooth to

melt in your mouth yeah one of the chewy good and what do you think about the

music here it's it's fascinating how long that I

loved it was very atmospheric it does feel very atmospheric it really sets the

sets the mood as to us us us eating here I love yeah we have like these like

wooden seats with purple cushion I got so comfortable that I've just taken my

shoes right yeah I've sitting cross-legged for a while to do that but

I was getting pretty cozy in here so and it goes we are dropping the raw egg in

the chunk Onaga dropped it like it's a boss in there drop it like it's hot drop

it like it's hot right in there yeah and we're just gonna let it cook in there

let it cook I think it's almost ready yeah what do you say okay so the flame

has gone out on family little pots so we figure it's gotta be rent yet exciting

times my friends say we have the the town coat is ready got some cool notes

let's take a bit of a tour before I end up putting on the place you can see some

of what is in there so check out some of the vegetables you have floating on top

of looks like cabbage yeah then over here this looks like

we've got mushrooms we've got underneath that egg we built different kind of

mushrooms as well we have the chicken yeah here so I'm

gonna try to grab some chicken okay dish it up here little bowl with a wooden

spoon there's about a nice sound shams I love those measurements make sure you

get lots of broth - the broth smells so good guys wish we had smell-o-vision

enable mmm okay it's a chicken broth somehow he's thinking it might be more

miso paste I think it does have a little bit of soy soybean paste but

predominantly you really tasted that it's a chicken broth let's try that

mushroom mushroom oh yeah it's nice and spongy a bit chewy mmm stop

I also read online that in some restaurants like with the leftover bra

they add noodles into it and they cook it again so you kind of get like a

second meal round two kind of reminds me of what they do with shabu shabu

yeah I'm Korea yeah if you look here the chicken has got the skin on its dull

yes give you the extra calories some are you gonna eat it with skin oh man that

looks like really great yeah oh my gosh okay oh I intended to

cover you like that a rubber layer of fat Jimmy's tender are so good this is

awesome Oh some more chicken you know that's quite adventurous chicken chicken

skin is delicious guys yeah don't be nervous dry it so it is my turn trying

this and I'm kind of aiming for the leaner pieces of chicken under stone I

don't really like eating fatty meat very much and this one like definitely has

like the skin and just it's not bad I feel like this is a dish that I would

probably eat during the cooler months like maybe an autumn or winter it's not

something that I would crave in summer especially with the heat and humidity

outside I'm just like sprayed myself which is right now but hey it's

air-conditioned in here so is there condition which makes a big difference

it does it makes a huge difference oh yeah this isn't like my favorite

Japanese dish that we've had since we've been here

yeah I'm glad we're trying it I feel like it's an experience getting to try

what the sumo wrestlers eat to put on me yeah

but it's not my personal favorite yeah yeah it's when you think about what's in

it it's it's a functional meal it's like you're you're eating for health and and

protein and vegetables and like vitamins and so on but yeah it rocks locks a bit

of the spice or the requirements of some other other dishes you find yeah yeah

like a chicken broth would you like shot some chicken I'm a whole bunch of

ingredients basically yeah yeah so it's been interesting and I really like the

restaurant like I love setting the decoration yeah that's great I wish the

sumo wrestlers would show up but like I'm starting to lose yeah

you know what else is really cool is this place seems like like Decatur

towards good everyday like office work I've got four see on seeing men coming

in in the business suits and eating here and and other people it doesn't it's not

a parade of tourists coming like yeah so yeah I'm going to enjoy the rest of this

meal finish the food in front of us and then continue our adventure in this

neighborhood indeed all right guys so we finished lunch and we were able to

figure out that there is no more wrestling show today yeah but they

couldn't tell us what days the show takes place or what time so that still

remains a mystery to us we just know it's not today no one today but anyways

the price was about two thousand seven hundred yen yeah so I would say just

under like 25 us two people 1250 per person yeah very filling cool

ambiance I can see photos of the restaurant the beautiful restaurant

inside it really is yeah it's just disappointing not yes I also found the

service to be really good yes and like it was starting to get very busy in

there by the time we left yeah big lunch promise of the tables were taken over

yeah no there was no show people are coming for the food yeah so that's

always a good sign and from here we're gonna head over to the sumo museum so

that's coming up next

alright Superman Sam tell us your impressions of the sumo Museum so it was

pretty small yeah we walked inside and the first thing we noticed was very

clear signs saying you couldn't take photos yeah we also assumed that we

couldn't take any videos so we didn't but what's inside is you find some

interesting traditional artwork there's some fans there's paintings and on the

other side of the wall there's it looks like a list of like champions over the

years yeah there's like photographs and philosophers wrestlers so yeah it's

worth checking out but honestly it's something that you can probably be in

and out of it within five minutes yeah so I would say it's worth visiting if

you're already coming all the way out to the Edo Tokyo Museum yeah or for or for

lunch in this area yeah or if you're coming to see an actual sumo wrestling

match yeah here at the theater you can also pop in to the museum as a

standalone attraction it's it's not amazing yeah yeah and then on the other

side we found a shock saw the shop is cool tell us what was in that so in the

shop it was all things sumo and there are lots of really cool t-shirts there's

special food items some of them were actually like things that symbols would

eat other things were more just like gifts ideas

there's just anything you could think of they had it in there it's pretty

interesting

What's BAD about the USA? Japanese girls and boys give their honest opinion about America - Duration: 7:25.

In USA, I don't think I can do much, can't live

I don't think I can eat either

Terrorism. I'm afraid of terrorism

Need courage to go there

Hey guys and girls it's Cathy Cat on Ask Japanese

Today we're going to go hit the streets of Tokyo

and ask Japanese people bad things about America

What do they think of America? Let's find out

Don't forget to hit the subscribe button for more videos from Japan

and click on the notification bell so you don't miss them

Let's go ask Japanese about America

Let's say for wallets, if you have it in your back pocket, you won't have it stolen in Japan

What I hear a lot is

If you have it in back pocket, you will lose it when you realize.

That's scary

Pickpockets?

That's right. I'm not sure but it's an image

There is that

Ever dropped your wallet in Japan?

I have so many times

but around 99% it comes back with the contents inside as well

so I feel Japanese people are kind

About how many times have you dropped your wallet?

So many times. I...

I probably have lost it 20 times

and got it back 19times?

For that 1 time, all was returned but

the money was taken

So it was returned 20times

Even when I dropped it, it came back

Wow, amazing Japan

I don't think that exist abroad

Only cash

So the cash was gone?

-Credit card and everything was there? -Yes, still there

Without money, you can't do anything

I got this info from my senior, but in Japan you could get away without money

to survive

But in US you can't do anything without money. No house..

or eat anything

What do you mean you can survive in Japan without money?

Well, you got social security

It's a gray zone but you can receive money

With those, you can somehow survive

If you try, you can at least get back to normal life?

Yes, if you try somehow, you can somehow get back to normal life

In US, if you are poor, you will always be poor?

If you can't do something great,

you will remain what you are right now...that is the image

in movies, of course

You see in American dream where you start as washing plates and become millionaires

What is the reality to that, viewers. Please write your comment

Please let me know.

Terrorism

Afraid of terrorism

Need courage to go there

Were you a bit afraid to go there?

There was a terrorism incident just before I was going

I was suppose to go there but it was very scary

so we had to stay at a nice safe hotel so

it was bit scary

but in the end you booked a safe hotel and had your mind ready and went?

I did

If you have a chance to go alone, would you?

I probably won't

In an unknown land, it's scary to go alone

The safety may be a problem

-More crime than in Japan -The image

Not only the image

There is a language barrier so

Scary

Would you go to the US alone?

With many people as possible

I want to go with someone who can speak

With a group or alone?

Going alone is scary

I can't speak the language and...

The culture difference is totally extreme so..

I probably won't be able to do anything,

and finish

"I went but it wasn't so fun" is what may happen

Of course the language?

It's a country where you can have a gun

which is different from Japan

There are incidents of school shooting so

I think that's scary

You hear it on the news in Japan as well

I feel scared. In that sense Japan is,

much safer without the guns

I feel that

Would you go to US alone?

Never been there

I would like to go, not alone, but with family or friends

I'll be preoccupied, since people have guns

and see it on the news

I feel a bit scared but I want to go

Anything you want to do in US?

To do in US?

I want to take many pictures

Probably look good on Instagram

-Instagram! -Yes, get some good pictures on Instagram

and receive many "likes"

Have you been to US?

No

No

Do you want to go?

I do want to go

The great avenues of New York are really cool

What do you want to do in the avenue?

In the avenue?

What would we do in avenue

Is there something you want to do?

I want to drink those huge drinks they serve at McDonalds

I heard the bottles are huge like buckets

I want to try that

Not burgers but juice?

Yes, since Japan is like this

I have an image that everything is big

I will eat that

Big juice

So what do you want to do in US?

Take some pictures

Brag about it

with pictures

What will you brag about?

"I came"

"Came to US"?

"I made it here"

-I'll brag -Nice

Will you drink the juice?

Juice!

I will,I will

That's all. Thank you very much

So bad thing about the USA, Japanese people gave their opinion

What are your opinions?

I would like to know, so

Down below, start a discussion and

Mention things are maybe not so good

Still be nice to each other guys, but things you think are...you know,

We could do better, or you could do better

and lets start a discussion on the comments down below

South Korean Navy's First Fleet cancels visit to Japan amid protracted military spat - Duration: 1:45.

Let's begin with the ongoing military spat between South Korea and Japan.

The two sides' radar dispute is pouring fuel on the fire of their already long-held historical

and territorial feuds.

The issue is now taking a toll on their military exchanges.

The South Korean Navy says it will cancel its planned visit to Japan in February,...

which has been part of naval exchanges between the two neighbors.

Kim Hyo-sun reports.

South Korean Navy's First Fleet has canceled its planned visit to Japan next month.

The decision comes amid chills in bilateral ties over the continued military spat on whether

a South Korean destroyer locked its fire-control radar on a Japanese patrol plane in the East

Sea last month.

As part of the naval exchange program between the two neighbors,...

Seoul has sent a two-star Navy officer to Japan on odd-number years,... while Tokyo

has sent an equivalent officer to South Korea on even-number years.

Seoul's defense ministry also explained it has no plans to hold separate talks with Tokyo

on the sidelines of the annual security forum held in Singapore this week.

On a related note,... the Chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff Park Han-ki

has instructed all military units to establish a swift and accurate reporting system to respond

to the threats posed by the low-altitude flyovers of Japanese patrol planes.

There are concerns the protracted tensions could undermine efforts to maintain cooperation

in denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and establishing lasting peace in Northeast Asia.

Japan's low-altitude flybys could be discussed at naval symposium: Defense ministry - Duration: 1:57.

Tensions have risen sharply between Seoul and Tokyo in recent weeks... over low-altitude

flights by Japanese planes near South Korean warships.

According to the defense ministry, the issue could be put on the table at this year's Western

Pacific Naval Symposium, a forum for countries in the region to discuss naval affairs.

Kan Hyeong-woo has our top story.

On Monday, Seoul's Ministry of National Defense said the dispute over the Japanese warplanes'

"agressive," low-altitude flybys could be discussed in working-level talks at the Western

Pacific Naval Symposium... set for April.

"If there's a need to talk about the flybys at the working-level meeting,... then it should

be discussed so regulations and guidelines can be established to prevent similiar incidents

in the future."

If the matter does come up at the Western Pacific Naval Symposium,... then a guideline

for evaluating the flights... could be the Code of Unplanned Encounters at Sea, or CUES.

The CUES was signed at the symposium in 2014... by 21 Pacific nations,... including South

Korea, the U.S. and Japan to prevent tensions escalating between different countries' militaries

at sea.

Meanwhile,... Japan is reportedly rethinking its plan to send warships to an international

maritime exercise that will begin in waters off the Korean Peninisula from late April

to early May.

But Seoul's Defense Ministry says a final decision on which countries will join the

exercise and on what scale... will be made in working-level talks between the participating

countries likely to take place at the end of February.

And amid the tension,...

Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo met with the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, Harry

Harris.

Although the details of what they covered in their meeting have not been disclosed,

there is speculation that they may have discussed the military disputes between Seoul and Tokyo.

World News - Japan will resume commercial whaling for the first time in 30 years - Duration: 3:47.

Japan will resume commercial whaling for the first time in three decades, just one day after it formally withdraws from the International Whaling Commission

The Fisheries Agency said whalers in six Pacific coast towns are expected to bring five vessels to form a fleet to hunt along the country's north-eastern coasts on July 1

Japan's decision to hunt whales for profit comes after it formally withdrew from the IWC last month after years of disagreement with pro-conservationist members

A ship owned by the fisheries association in Taiji - known for its annual dolphin hunts - will contribute one vessel to the fleet which will hunt minke whales near Hachinohe or Kushiro in northern Japan

Each vessel will then head south to Chiba, near Tokyo, while making several stops before heading back to Kushiro for more hunts later in the year, Japan's national broadcaster NHK said

Exact locations and hunting plans will be decided based on the results of research planned by the end of June, said Shigeki Takaya, a Fisheries Agency official

Share this article Share Japan's decision to resume whaling for profit was widely criticised, with Britain's environment minister Michael Gove saying he was 'extremely disappointed'

But while conservationists have condemned Japan's move, the scope of operation will be much smaller than the country's 'research hunts' in distant waters

These annual hunts took place in the Antarctic and north-west Pacific oceans after the IWC imposed a moratorium in the 1980s

Expeditions will now be limited to Japan's territorial waters and its 200-mile exclusive economic zone along the country's coasts

Fisheries officials plan to start with a modest plan to carefully gauge a market size, a former IWC negotiator, Hideki Moronuki, said

The withdrawal from the IWC may be a face-saving step to stop Japan's ambitious Antarctic hunts and scale down the scope of whaling to around the Japanese coasts

Japan, which is joining Iceland and Norway in openly defying the ban on commercial hunting, annually consumes 5,000 tons of whale meat from 'research hunts'

This is a fraction of the country's previous whale meat consumption of around 200,000 tons in the 1960s

But critics say they doubt commercial whaling could be a sustainable industry if Japanese young people do not see whales as food

Afc Asian Cup 2019 : Japan vs Iran | Iran vs Japan | semifinal |Football match | live| highlights - Duration: 1:44.

Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu has said that IR Iran's class has been proven in

the AFC Asian Cup 2019, but his players will do their best to get a win when the two teams

meet in the semifinal on Monday. The Samurai Blue are the most successful national team

in the Asian Cup history winning the title on four occasions while Iran haven't tasted

success after their third title win back in 1976.However, Team Melli are firm favourites

to lift the trophy this time around solely based on the performances they have produced

in the United Arab Emirates so far.

But Japan coach Moriyasu knows what it will take for his team to beat their West Asian

opponents."Iran are a top class team, both in Asia and in the FIFA rankings and that

has been shown at the Asian Cup," Moriyasu said at the news conference ahead of the game.

"We respect every opponent, but it's about how we express our own football and utmost

quality and that will be the same [on Monday]," he said."In order to win, we will play aggressively

and I want the players to do their utmost on the pitch," he said.Japan have so far

one all five of their matches in the Asian Cup by one-goal margin and Moriyasu have come

under some criticism for his safety-first approach.

But he is someone who knows football is not just about attacking."Football is a game

about scoring goals, but before that you have to win the ball and I want my players to show

their strong spirit around the ball and to win the ball.

After that, we want to play both offensively and defensively," he said."The players

know that we are playing with persistence and they are trying each time to express our

team concept.

I want them to do the same thing [against Iran], to play aggressively and hopefully

get the result," Moriyasu said.
