Hi everyone! How are you?
Today I bring you a new video, something different of the other videos until now...
I'm going to show you the process of one of my digital paintings
from beginning to the end.
For this, I did a drawing of Mr. Gear 365, Mr. "Cal Rider".
I'm going to tell you how the process has been.
The video was a little bit long, so I cut it into two parts.
This is the first part and I will try to bring the second part as soon as possible.
Every digital painting I do I try to think on it
as a real painting,
as an oil painting or an acrylic painting.
So, we start with some general marks,
covering the background and the figure.
Usually, in a real painting
I usually do a color base,
includying the background and the figure on it,
but I did it separately here.
As you see, the background is a violet with more red,
and the figure is a violet with more blue, more grey.
So, we start with some general marks
and, in this point, we can mark
with more detail, between quotation marks.
Because the rule that we are going to follow is always
work "from general to particular".
By the way, if you have some curiosity, I searched on the internet and
this illustration, this digital painting, is made with a
"Wacom Bamboo".
The problem is that this graphic tablet
is not at the stores anymore.
Because this one is from 2012, but it still works very well to me.
If you are curious about, I will put on the description box
a link to let you see what is on stores today
something similar, but obviously better than mine.
Well, when we have the general marks
we can start to give more hue, as you can see on the back ground.
And, to be able to give some volume to the figure
we start with shadows and lights,
but they still are general marks,
we don't start with details yet,
just, we will try to eliminate the flat sensation of the figure
to start with his volume.
The issue to paint all with violet colors
is because I decided to do the light with yellow.
The problem is...
surely in the second part..., that light is not going to be that evident...
So we must to wait the second part to be able to see that.
(I mean, in this video you will not appreciate the yellow light, but I hope that you be able in the second part)
As you can see, in my paintings
I work with low opacity,
I usually work with an opacity between the 25 and the 50%
to not cover all very quick,
and to let the transparency make new colors.
So you get a painting with a lot of hues, very rich.
Now you see too, painting the background,
working more on that dark layer I start to give some atmosphere,
to give some sense to the figure.
Sometimes I need to see the contour lines
to know where to paint,
but these lines are going to disappear at the end.
I will delete that layer or something.
Tell you too that, usually
people are surprised watching my paintings
the representation of leather
and that is because many times people
use white and black to do the leather
I mean, black, for the leather and then white for the shine parts.
But, if you look well a leather garment,
if you look it well,
it have a lot of hues.
Because there is the light issue, the environment issue.
Think, for example, you can do the test at home
If you take a red T-shirt and you put it close to the face
you are going to see how the red color is going to be reflected on the face.
So, you must to consider all these kind of things
and all of this counts to get a good painting, one with good hue.
If you have any doubt about the process, you can write it on the comment box
I will answer it
to know and consider
if there is something I'm not telling and you are curious about...
because, digital painting is not my main tool, saying something...
It is more a resource when I can not paint with oil paintings,
when I can not paint on easel...
So, even when I like a lot
work with digital painting
surely I can to learn a lot
more than I know in this moment.
So, if you don't know how I did something
and I forget to tell how it is done,
or something,
You can ask without problem
I will answer you as soon as possible.
Tell you too that,
between my social media,
now you can find my "Patreon" profile,
so, I let you it on the description box.
If you want to take a look.
And, if you would like to collaborate with my work, you can take a look...
I'm thinking to offer a reward like
mentioning the patrons at the end of the videos or something like that.
Because, at the moment, I don't have material to offer...
Surely, that material
will be available in March 2019.
But is not sure yet.
As you can see too,
I'm attacking all the painting at the same time.
Because so many artists,
paint a zone until the end,
and then go to other zone and work on it until the end
and again and again.
I don't like that way to work
because is not easy to see the progress
and it is hard to get an organic result.
A lot of times, the paintings done with this method
look like "trimmed and pasted".
So, you saw how I go from a zone to another
and not definying until the end,
the definition appear by the work itself, layer by layer.
As you will see on the next part (the second part),
the belt and the "Sam Browne",
a "belt" that go from the waist passing around the shoulder until arrive to the waist again,
or the padded of the elbows or the shoulders of the jacket,
are the elements with more details
and, for that, I'm leaving them to the end.
Because, if you spend a lot of time on those details from the beginning,
is not productive.
The "rule" work from general to particular,
you must to try to follow it always,
because, think for a moment, you do an eye,
and you do all the eyelash...
and all the details...
and then, suddenly, you want to paint on it,
or you want to do other thing around and
you have the risk to mess up all the work.
My way to work on digital painting
I try to do it as similar as possible
than the way I work with oil paintings
or acrylic, to decrease the difference
between one thing and the other.
Obviously the difference between the
digital and the traditional stuff will exist
because there is an universe in the middle.
But I try to be as coherent as possible between the two techniques.
Now you see, at the end of the video
I'm spending more time on the face,
to let it in a look similar than the clothes.
But, as you know, this is the video of the first part.
On the second part, the result will be more defined.
And this is the result of the first part.
So, in the next video
we will see it with more definition, or more painting look...
I hope you liked the video, if you enjoyed it, don't forget to click the "like"button,
and don't forget to subscribe.
Click the bell too, toknow when I upload new videos.
And...
don't forget to share it and "all that stuff".
And see you on the next video and on the seconf part of this painting.
Ciao!
