Ryan: Hi Ryan from Computerease here, a Saint Louis
IT company and I'm in sunny Phoenix and I've got here with me Cameron from Webroot Cybersecurity.
Cameron just presented some security trends and threat information from 2017 and some
thing coming up in 2018.
He also mentioned some new add-ons to their cybersecurity services that we currently use
with most of our clients so currently we use Webroot end-point protection for most of our
clients so they've got 2 new products that they're rolling out that are going to be add-ons
that we will be able to offer to our clients so I wanted to take a minute and let Cameron
go over those 2 additional services with us.
Cameron: Sure!
The first thing that we've released is DNS protection it's an interesting security layer
that you can add to the perimeter of your networks and it helps temper on the network
the different kinds of traffic that are allowed in so you can temper and stop malicious sources
from getting information into your network.
The second component to this product is that on each computer you can actually filter what
content which is great from a security standpoint it keeps them off the bad stuff but then it
also keeps them off there's no reason why you need peer-to-peer traffic on your network
and your work computers and you also might have HR considerations like online dating
and social media.
Do you need that during work hours?
If not, this is a way to temper that traffic.
Ryan: It's a time waster and the peer-to-peer sites
is definitely a risk so with those peer-to-peer sites there are a lot of threats that come
with that.
So with your DNS products part of that one of the nice things is that it doesn't require
additional products to be installed, don't you just turn it on for an additional function?
Cameron: You point all of the network traffic to us
and there's a second component that if you want to add an agent its just adds onto that
existing Webroot if that's for an out of network filtering.
Ryan: At the network level we forward all the traffic by site through Webroot it gets
filtered but then if we have a laptop that the business owner takes home obviously they
are going to leave the security of the network and the DNS filtering then applies to their
network at the office so then you've got the DNS filter protection on their local computer
so if they're at a hotel like we are today or airports they're not going to accidentally
go somewhere that they shouldn't And then the second thing you have is a training
product right?
Cameron: Security awareness training is fantastic it
helps customers become more educated on how not to become a victim.
So there's a couple components.
There's phishing where you'll actually be able to put out a fake malicious phishing
email campaigns and you can track who's clicking on things they shouldn't.
And you can prompt those to go to training or you can prompt those to go wherever you
want to but the idea is that you track who doesn't know what to do.
And then the second component is the training itself.
We have really engaging content that's animated and built in videos talking through the different
threats that the companies face today and how to avoid them.
Ryan: So with the email training, the phishing simulation,
is it us as the IT provider or the client that can send out phishing emails to their
users base that are harmless but we can tell if they've clicked on the links right.
Is that possible for us to do the IT provider?
Cameron: Yes-you own that within your company.
And the end users of the company?
do they have the ability to do that or is that just a function that we have?
Cameron: You would have that.
Ryan: Ok.
We control that then.
Cameron: There's an ability to do that and what we
see in our successful implementation of our security products and keeping track.
Ryan: So we would do that for our clients.
A lot of our clients have asked for that and the ones who haven't asked for it we've never
talked about it in the past.
we've done a bit of this in the past with other companies but this would be a lot more
of a simple solution because it integrates with everything else that we're doing.
So it's a lot more streamlined for us to do for our clients because everything is simple,
Cameron: Yeah, it's not a timely process.
And we built it that way.
Ryan: Perfect, um, and the training is it individualized
self paced so an individual can go through it on their own.
Cameron: So you'll see that there's different kinds
of content.
There's short quick clips that are 2 minutes.
There's lengthier ones that you can take piecemeal and there's TCI compliance, HIPAA compliance
so that kind of stuff takes time to get into and then you can track their progress through
the modules.
Ryan: Perfect.
Well, I appreciate Cameron you taking the time today and I'm really excited about the
DNS filtering especially the phishing so thanks.
Cameron: Thanks!
