the practitioners of the fine arts of visual effects and CGI have always had a Holy Grail:

the creation of digital characters who seem so real that audiences will be fooled into

believing they're being played by real human beings.

But that goal has not yet been reached.

People have an innate knowledge of how human faces and bodies move and react.

Artists who fail to include in their work even the almost imperceptible qualities of

a real person won't fool anyone.

But progress is being made.

Visual effects supervisor Richard Clegg of effects house the Moving Picture Co. — who

created a digital Arnold Schwarzenegger fighting his real-world self in 2015's "Terminator

Genisys" — staged somewhat of a breakthrough with his work on the VFX character Rachel

in last year's "Blade Runner 2049."

She was animated to look like actress Sean Young as she appeared in the original "Blade

Runner" in 1982.

"We might spend all day changing a pixel value by 0.2%," says Clegg.

"A small change to a highlight in the eye makes a huge difference.

That's where you have to get it right."

More and more, getting it right requires intuition as much as math.

"In the past we would have been beating ourselves up over algorithms that aren't

strong enough, whereas now it's all subjective decision-

making about how we want a character's face to perform," says Ben Morris, creative director

at Industrial Light & Magic's London studio, who was instrumental in wrangling the digital

characters in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

Still, the art is far from perfect.

Facial expressions, eye movements, the way muscles settle and countless other properties

of the human body contain so much detail that it's difficult for computer animation to

re-create all of them realistically.

"We're just so used to looking at each other that we know when a digital representation

is off," says Anton Dawson, owner and CEO of Pixelgun Studio, which renders sports stars

and celebrities in 3D for animation projects.

"We scan, represent the data as dots, then put that back into [the picture] … but it's

still hard to animate a human performance because there's so much nuance."

Perhaps the biggest advance in animating characters since the start of the CGI 4age has been motion

capture.

As actors perform, their body movements and facial expressions are digitally recorded

using telltale dots on their faces and bodysuits.

That data is then combined with the on-screen character, and a seemingly living, breathing

person — or chimpanzee, murderous robot or swamp monster — emerges.

Motion capture is so successful because it directly records and re-creates the way real

people move, smile or furrow their brow, giving the final product all the qualities of authentic

human movement.

But as Peter Busch, VP of business development for facial motion capture systems provider

Faceware Technologies, points out, hand-tooled computer animation will always be necessary

on top of technologies such as motion capture.

"Just scanning someone doesn't look exactly correct," he says.

"We get lifeless characters, and there's a disconnect with audiences."

Instead, motion capture is more about giving animators a performance as a basis from which

to work.

Morris says ILM wanted to maintain the performance Andy Serkis gave as the Last Jedi's Supreme

Leader Snoke but that there's plenty of animation on top.

"We don't hit the magic button and out pops Snoke," he says.

"Performance capture is just a recording device."

Nonetheless, the characteristics of the performance are sometimes so effective that they can affect

the design of the character.

For example, when ILM was assembling the data and footage of Serkis' scenes, it realized

the actor's deep, resonant voice didn't sound right coming from Snoke's character

design, which had carried over from "The Force Awakens."

"We broadened his shoulders, brought out his chest, changed his jawbone and completely

restructured the anatomy of his throat," Morris says.

Creativity aside, generating photoreal digital characters is also about costs.

Think of it this way: If ILM had been given the money (and time) to make villainous Governor

Tarkin 100% real, would it have impacted the film's huge box office gross?

(Actor Peter Cushing, who played Tarkin in 1977's "Star Wars," died in 1994 and

had to be digitally re-created for 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.")

Dawson thinks there's something of a "good enough" strategy, since the cost of creating

digital characters dramatically increases the closer to realism one gets.

"It's that last 10% to 15% that costs the most money and takes the most time,"

he says.

Clegg agrees budgets and deadlines are finite, but tricking the audience with a realistic

digital human — like every decision on set and in post-production — comes down to the

wishes of the director.

"On 'Blade Runner 2049' there was a desire to do everything so well you couldn't

tell," he says.

And on "The Last Jedi," Morris says director Rian Johnson was very concerned with getting

Snoke right, wondering whether "we should just put a guy in makeup and wing it."

But as renders of the shots were coming from post-production, Johnson and the animators

had what Morris calls a eureka moment.

"We showed Rian some close-ups, pushing our cameras right in, and Snoke became more

and more believable," he says.

"Our confidence came through, and any concern Rian had just vaporized."

TTC UPDATE | CLEARBLUE DIGITAL OPKs & CHANGING MY MIND ABOUT TRYING? - Duration: 6:21.

I feel like this could really be our month.

Hey everyone! Today I'm back with a new TTC update. I told you guys in my last

one back in November, that we'd be waiting until January to give a new

update and it is now that magical month of January. If you guys have watched some

of my TTC videos for baby number three in the past. We're not sharing any like

crazy personal details. I just want to kind of show you guys where I'm at

mentally. As you guys probably know if you know you live on the planet,

Christmas and New Year's was last month and it was insane. That was probably like

some of my most stressful months as a mom, of my like whole motherhood journey.

I have two kids. They were crazy, they both went through sleep regressions. For like

half the month of November and then the whole month of December

nobody was sleeping. Nobody was sleeping. Neither one of the kids would go to bed

before like 10:30 or 11 o'clock at night. So then, like I would basically go to bed

like right after I to get them to bed. It was just like a huge hot mess. I remember

during that time, I sat down one night and thought "I don't know if I want to do

this again" and I started writing in my journal because I've been journaling so

much but I'll get that on to that later. I started journaling about how I wasn't

sure. All of these sleep regressions and all the stress of the holidays and I put

so much pressure on myself this holiday season and I vow to never do

that again. Especially with such young kids because it was just like such a

huge letdown. I worked so hard. Research and decorating. Everything this year for

Christmas and like my kids didn't care at all. Like nobody cared. I put a lot of

pressure on myself and then with the kids not sleeping, I was just so stressed

out and I was like "Do I want to do this again? Do I want to add someone else to

this family? To this scenario? To this stress?" And the more I started thinking

about it, the more I started journaling about it. This like wave of reassurance

came over me and I started to get excited. I don't know how

to explain it but like when you decide that you're going to start trying for

another baby, at least for me at least, you have like this giddy feeling. Like you're just

so so so so so so so excited and that's kind of the feeling that I got, was just

I was so so so so so excited and I was like you know what this will pass. This

is only for a short period of time. It's just the holidays. It's just sleep

regressions and it has. It already has. It's the beginning of January and it's already

like everyone's already sleeping at a normal bedtime. All the craziness is over

and I'm back to giving TTC 110% of my effort, of my time. I've had two cycles

since then. It's actually turned out that Laine has been home for both cycles and

he wasn't supposed to and that's kind of why I said" No we won't be doing any more

TTC updates." but he randomly was home during like the key times of both those

cycles. I'm not pregnant so it kind of sucks. We weren't really trying that hard

because like I said stress the holidays and everything I wasn't being super

active with tracking. I wasn't doing any OPK's. I wasn't doing anything crazy

over the last two cycles. So now this cycle I feel like this could really be

our month. I'm trying to give this my all. So I have been super active on my apps.

My favorite one is the Ovia app, if you guys haven't watched any of my TTC

updates before. I love Ovia fertility. It's awesome! I love their layout of the

app. I love their information. I just love Ovia fertility. The, like, big

guns that I'm bringing out this month is the clear blue Digital ovulation tests.

These are pricey. I'm not even going to joke. These are like the most expensive

ovulation tests on the market but I just felt like they were worth it, if it's

going to help. As some of you guys might know we got pregnant with my daughter

while on birth control. We got pregnant with my son like within I think

it was like our first or second month. We had no troubles whatsoever and we're

going like four cycles now, I think. So I'd just

like to really make sure that I'm giving this as much as I can and I feel like

with the normal opks, with the lines, with the ones that are cheaper and more

budget-friendly. I just have so much trouble reading them. Which sounds so

stupid. It makes me sound like a stupid person but I promise you I'm a very

intelligent woman. I hate having to sit there and guess and like compare. I hate

having to like use a piece of paper and like stick them all on and like say " Well

is this one darker than this one?" And what if you miss it? It was just so hard.

These, yes they were a bit more of investment, but I feel like if they're

gonna work then it's worth it. If not, well we might consider not buying these

again. There is enough for two months in here. What I liked about these is that it

gives you the, it straight up tells you no ovulation, ovulation. There's no

guessing. It is just, it is what it is. I'm gonna see how these work, yes these were

expensive. I'm hoping they were worth it. Something I have been doing a lot over

these last few months is journaling. I don't know if I showed you guys but I

have this like little sparkly notebook and over half of it is full with

journaling this ttc journey so far and I've been absolutely loving it for

getting my emotions out, for getting all my thoughts out, for laying everything

out. It's been so therapeutic and I've been really really loving it. And I think

that's about it. This cycle seems like it's gonna be pretty good chances so I'm

hoping for the best. I hope you guys really enjoyed this little TTC update.

Make sure to leave a comment down below if you guys are currently TCC or if

you're pregnant or if you just had a baby you're like "Girl, no! Don't even

start with me." So let me know down in the comments below where you're at in

your parenting journey. Make sure you give this video a big thumbs up if you

enjoyed it and subscribe down below for future videos. I'll see you guys next

time. Bye!

Are You Putting People At The Center Of Technology? — Cognizant Digital Engineering - Duration: 2:21.

We all use countless apps every day to get through our lives; after all, software

is how we connect with customers, employees and each other. If your

software is good, your company will thrive, but sticking with software that

was written for another decade is a going-out-of-business strategy. Let's

face it: Most companies have hundreds or even thousands of apps built up over

time—what stays, what goes, what needs to be fixed. Customers and employees not

only expect change, they demand it. Software for the digital economy has to

be intuitive to use—almost invisible, but many companies are still running on

software built decades ago for the industrial economy. The economics of code

have never been more important. We need new apps for the modern age, but legacy

applications can be a goldmine for those who know what to turn off, what to

modernize and what to leave alone. One of the best investments any business can

make is to put people back at the center of technology, linking social sciences to

engineering. So new products are developed based on what humans want and

need, leveraging APIs, micro-services, cloud infrastructure, containerization

and new coding models will save money and improve customer experiences.

Software can be built faster and with lower adoption risk to shorten time to

value. The debate about becoming digital is

over. Business leaders from every sector in every region are now saying that

moving slowly is actually the biggest risk. The name of the game today is

acceleration. So don't get left behind! With decades of client experience in

banking, healthcare and insurance, a leading technical workforce and strong

strategic partnerships, Cognizant is building software that enchants

customers, empowers employees and accelerates growth. We invite you to

check out how Cognizant in partnership with social science experts

ReD Associates is helping clients stay relevant for 2020.

Top Cryptocurrency To Invest In 2018 And Beyond | OMNI Layer Protocol | Digital Mark Of The Beast - Duration: 6:11.

Well, hello there.

I, am Metapixelatron.

Today, I must reveal to you one of the secrets of the crypto market.

It is something so important, that it will most definitely reshape the world and human

society as we know it.

Do you want to know what is the next stage of evolution of the mark of the beast?

I hope you've come prepared for it.

The truth shall set you free, but you better have a tin foil hat close by.

Twenty layers of aluminum foil should be enough.

Seriously, the shadow government will not allow you to simply receive this message without

any interfeerence.

Well well well, let's begin...

Have you ever heard of the OMNI Layer of Bitcoin?

It is a meta-asset layer and smart-contract platform that runs on top of the Bitcoin blockchain.

It also contains a decentralized exchange, known as the OMNI DEX.

Many tokens which currently have incredible importance in the crypto market were created

using this protocol.

I can give you a few examples, like the Maidsafe coin and the Tether token, which is also known

as USDt.

Yes, that digital token, which is pegged to the USD value was created using the OMNI Layer

of Bitcoin.

OMNI is a true game changer, and I am about to tell you why.

You see, I have reasons to believe that all the national currencies of the future will

be created using this protocol layer.

I know what you're thinking: sounds like some tin foil hat conspiracy theory stuff.

Let me explain...

The OMNI coin was originally named Mastercoin, before it was rebranded to simply OMNI.

The name Mastercoin, by itself, wouldn't arise any suspicion.

But, the rabbit hole gets much deeper once you actually look into it...

The maximum total supply of OMNI tokens which will ever exist is 616,770.

But what does it mean?

Well, isn't it obvious?

The original number of the beast used to be 616, on many of the older translations of

biblical texts.

But wait, there's more...

What kind of conspiracy researcher do you take me for?

After months of research, I have found a lot more than this...

Let me show you something that will blow your minds for good...

Look at the cover of the economist magazine, from 1988.

Do you see it?

That is the OMNI symbol.

Yes, it has been prophecized, before Bitcoin even appeared on the market.

The illuminati themselves have left clues, for those who would have the eyes to see.

A self written prophecy perhaps?

Things get even shadier, once you realize that the name of the Chief Technologist of

the Omni Foundation is Craig Sellars.

His name literally means Rock Sellers.

Sounds like Rockefellers, doesn't it?

Coincidence?

I think not.

Anyway, don't you want to own at least one OMNI token?

This is not an investment advice, and you should do your own research before investing.

But, do you even relize how important this protocol layer and the OMNI token itself will

be in the grand scheme of things?

This could be your chance, Anon.

Yes... you crave the power, don't you?

If the prophecy is true, one OMNI could be worth 10 BTC in the future.

It is, after all, the most important protocol layer on the Bitcoin Blockchain.

Many of the digital tokens, which will be used inside the smart cities of the future,

will probably be created using the OMNI Layer protocol.

2018 will be the year of cryptocurrency protocols.

You've been warned.

Do not fail, Anon...

This is YOUR destiny.

Did I tell you there are rumors about some interesting new features?

I've heard that holding OMNI, may give dividends to the holders in the near future.

Yes, probably dividends from the fees collected in the OMNI decentralized exchange.

Imagine gaining USD Tether and other tokens, simply because you're holding OMNI in your

wallet...

So much power...

One token, one protocol to rule them all.

Who would have thought, that the mark of the beast would come disguised as an inconspicuous

protocol layer, within a decentralized digital cryptocurrency such as bitcoin.

There are also rumors about an OMNI layer being created within Litecoin as well.

If you are a crypto investor, you may want to check out this OMNI Mastercoin.

It could be a good investment for the long term, as I believe it is incredibly underpriced.

But be careful, Anon, because the things you own, end up owning you...

Cryptocurrencies were never meant to free the sheeple, but to serve as another technological

tool to amplify their inevitable enslavement at the hands of the powerful technocratic

elites, in this age of Web 2.0, Internet Of Things and Socialized Digital Economy.

I told you the truth would set you free...

So, how do you like that freedom?

Feeling comfy, with your crypto gains yet, you sheep?

BAHAHAHaha...

Your Anarcho-Capitalist utopia doesn't sound so decentralized now, does it?

The reptillian shapeshifting shadow government elite bankers, have got you all bamboozled...

deceived... tricked... cheated... duped... swindled... hoaxed... deluded.

Don't say you weren't warned.

NRF 2018 Digital Transformation Jumpstart - Duration: 1:34.

>> Hi everybody. My name is Hugo Martorelli,

and I am a Digital Adviser

with Microsoft Consulting Services.

And what I do, I help companies reinvent,

transform, disrupt their industry

before being disrupted themselves.

How do I do it?

Digital Advisers at Microsoft,

we have a process called

Digital Transformation Jump-Start.

And what that is, it is

an investment that Microsoft is making in

the relationship with our most important customers

in order to understand their business,

understand their industry, imagine the future,

imagine and create the future

together in a spirit of partnership.

We do a two-day envision workshop

in the customer's office,

then we create

the customer's digital transformation "Book of Dreams."

What that is is, it's we

use design thinking, design and innovation,

scenario-focused engineering in order

to create future scenarios,

in order to understand what is the situation today,

what if we could change that situation using technology,

what wows the customers' customers,

and then what works.

That's the digital transformation "Book of Dreams."

We create that "Book of Dreams" and then we go

to our executive briefing center to have

a deep conversation about the technologies

and solutions that would enable those scenarios.

I invite you to please take advantage of that offer by

Microsoft Digital Advisory Services. Thank you so much.
