how long does it take to produce a piano

cover that is a tough question to answer

because it depends on many things such

as how long or how complex you want your

piano covers to be. For me, the majority

of my arrangements are around one to two

minutes so they're relatively short. I

mean of course they're exceptions like

currently I'm working on a medley of

La-La-Land and that's definitely going

to be longer than one to two minutes but

exceptions aside, normally it takes me

around two weeks to produce a piano

cover and that includes arranging,

practicing, recording the piano cover and

then also editing the video. Now let me

break that down for you. I spend the

first three days arranging the cover. I

arrange mostly by ear but sometimes I

search for guitar chords and also sheet

music online, you know, for reference.

And I get a lot of my inspiration from

classical music repertoire of my

favorite composers including Liszt,

which is my all-time favorite composer,

Chopin, Rachmaninov, Horowitz, and Cziffra.

If you want me to talk about how I

arrange my music, I can do so in a later

video. So for the next 9 to 10 days I

practice. I know 9 to 10 days sounds

really short and it is. Back in the day

when I used to compete in competitions

or perform in recitals, I would

practice for months on end but now I

only practice 9 to 10 days. And why is

that? Well there are a couple reasons. The

first reason is that there's a

difference between performing on stage

and just recording in the

comfort of your own home. Of course the

latter is much easier. The second reason

is there is a difference between

performing classical songs composed by

masters of the trade and performing

songs that I arranged for myself.

Of course I can always tailor the pieces

to my fingers so it's a lot easier for

me to play something that I composed

myself. The third reason is I see making

piano covers as a hobby so I'm not gonna

beat myself up over small imperfections.

And the fourth and final reason is that

I don't want you guys to wait too long

in between my piano covers. I think that

a two-week wait is already a very long

time. Yes I'm always thinking about you

guys! Yeah so even though 9 to 10 days is

not a long time, it works for me. During

these nine to ten days I also spend some

time recording an intro for my music

videos. If you have seen my piano covers

you would know that I always have an

intro in the beginning that is somehow

related to the song that I'm about to

play. I don't know if you guys enjoy the

intro or if you just skip it but I

really enjoy filming it because it's

kind of like filming a short movie where

you get to be the director and actor

both at the same time. Okay so on day 13

I record piece and I record everything

live by the way so I have three cameras

running at the same time at different

angles and it takes me about two and a

half hours to set everything up and

record everything. I normally play a

piece, I don't know, five to eight times

before I'm satisfied with the results.

Sometimes it takes longer. Rarely

is it shorter. And then on the last day

which is day 14 I edit the video so what

I do is is I just cut and paste

different scenes together or I just

cut and paste different angles of the

same scene together. I mean it's really

no rocket science. I also do a little bit

of light adjustment and color adjustment

so that the video looks more wholesome

and you know looks more professional. So

let's see I spend about two and a half

hours each day in a span of two weeks

working on my piano covers. If

you do the math, that is around 35 hours for

me to produce a piano cover that you see

on my youtube channel. Okay that's it

hopefully I'll be able to post my medley

of La-La-Land by the end of next week so

I will see you guys then!
