Hello and welcome to this new episode of Life Like a Lesbian.
Today we are with Charlotte,
20 years old student in Paris,
who accepted to answer my questions about the bisexuality.
So...
Because she didn't wanted to let her face appearing
you'll only see a black background with questions...
anyway...
with a different background,
concerning this video.
Hopefully you gonna be fine,
the important gonna be more into listening this time,
but...
I hope you gonna enjoy it.
That's it.
What was for you...
What was the biggest obstacles for you?
How do you percive your acceptation into society?
Yeah that's better like this.
- My acceptation into society? -
Yep
- Jesus... -
- That's a really good question, let me think... -
- I need to think to don't say too much shit you know -
- That's a serious things... yes -
- Yes! -
- Yeah that's it, -
- See if you had write think I could be speack seriously but here I feel uncomfortable -
- Right now I can see you staring at me with your eyes and stuff -
- And I'm looking at you with my eyes -
Do you need a writing support to answer directly?
- I don't know -
- But wait... I need first to think about your question -
- Society acceptation... -
- So what can I say about this -
- Well actually it's still not really accepted -
- Because there is still a lot of people thinking -
- it's bullshit. -
- who say.. -
- "Oh yeah well... this for me doesn't exist...." -
- "you have to make a decision" -
- My sister told me that one time as well, don't know why actually we spoke about this but: -
- "First of all, bisexuality doesn't exist for me" -
- "In some point, you have to make a choice" -
- But well, it's true a lot of people say: "yeah I'm bisexual because..." -
- No I don't mean there is a lot of people saying this -
- But there is a lot who are thinking people say that because -
- they don't assume them homosexuality -
- Like if a man says he is bisexual they will answer: -
- "No he's not bisexual, he is gay, he don't want to admit it you know" -
- and it's true.. -
- well i knew someone... you know him -
- a gay man saying he was bisexual, because he didn't assume -
- so... what was your question? -
How do you percive...
-...society acceptation? -
- well I think people... -
- still confound this... I mean... -
- I don't know if we can say, they confound it with homosexuality -
- if there is a really big difference, between bisexuality and homosexuality -
- and stuff, but it still something... -
- not really understood at all -
They maybe think you are still questionning yourself?
- yeah -
- it's only a "phase" -
- You know -
Binary society
- Exactly -
- it's was already hard to them to accept homosexuality, so with bisexuality... -
- I mean... to accept... -
- It's easy enough to say.
To recognize
- yeah to recognize is existence -
Yeah
- with bisexuality, I mean, it's not about acceptation really -
- it's still about recognising is existence I think -
Well I think actually...
I mean I think...
the research as bisexual is more complicated than the research as an homo...
- Yeah -
- Yeah -
- Because... -
- The world is not really binary but, -
- Human are manichean, we tend to think it's 1 or 0, it can't be 3. -
Yeah
- And... -
- when you're young and you discover you are attracted by the same gender -
- and you think... -
- "but actually..." -
- "I'm gay" -
- and then you think: "well actually..." -
- I still have attraction for the other gender -
- "So I'm not gay I'm straight" -
- "No I'm not straight, I'm gay... but no..." and one day you think: -
- "Actually" -
- "maybe I like both..." -
- Because... I mean... -
- You think you have to make a choice actually -
yeah
- That's why you don't understand, you think... " -
- you have to make a decision, you have to prefer one of them -
- I think that's why it's harder -
- because actually, -
- it's hard -
- to people -
- to think it's possible -
- to be attracted by both -
To accept to think it's possible?
- more or less equal -
yeah
- because even my friends who asked me -
- "so now you did it with both... which one do you prefer?" -
- "is it better with...?" -
- you can compare -
- it's not the same -
- but people are persuaded you have to make a choice -
- it's kind of when we are asking "do you prefer your mother or your father?" -
That's true, that's true...
- So I'm answering, "you can't compare" -
You don't love them for the same reasons
- I don't love them for the same reasons and I love both of them -
- both of them pissed me off too -
- Yeah that's the same -
Do you think with your family that could being a complication?
I mean, to claim yourself bisexual or...
- Well I know this... they let me guessed... -
- because they deeply think I'm lesbian -
Really?
- yeah I told you this... -
Oh yeah true
- This moment in Christmas: "why do you wear as a boy? Are you lesbian?" -
- during the diner -
Over embarrassed
- I felt over embarrassed -
- So yeah, but... -
- I think, if I tell them I'm bisexual they are not gonna understand -
Yeah...
- When you're bisexual as well, and when you discover yourself -
- you feel like -
- you... -
- how explain... -
- betray your proper trust -
- because you kind of think: "I'm actually lesbian but I don't want to accept it..."
- "and I create an attraction to boy" -
- "to save..." -
- "a sort of emergency exit" -
- you know -
- to can hide yourself -
Do you think having gay people arround you, helped you with your questionning?
Have gay friends
- yeah, because in fact, when I'm with my friends -
- I'm... -
- I feel free you know -
- because I think... -
- they did worst -
- there is no shame -
- but after word with my gay friends... -
- well have got one friend bisexual... you know her -
- but well... who didn't... -
- do anythink... with a boy -
- but most of the time I had gay friends and I felt a bit oppress by them -
- and it wasn't voluntary but I felt -
- for them I was... -
- only 50% lesbian -
- to get back with my 50% straight -
Was it easier to test first
with a boy or with a girl for you?
I mean at the beginning, with who did you feel more comfortable?
or was less scary maybe...
- mhm... actually -
- with girls looks less scary -
- because arround you everyone say communly: -
- "oh my god, the first time with a boy is always painful and stuff..." -
- everyone gonna tell you that -
- and also, you get less chance to get pregnant as well with a girl -
- No baby with fingers. -
- There is this and... -
- So... -
- it's less scary with... -
- with... -
- the act itself sounds less scary -
- but it's everythink around that sounds scary -
- the fact to be scare to be judge actually -
- people saying: "well..." -
- "you did it with a girl you're lesbian" -
- and it's not I don't want to let people say I'm lesbian... it's... -
- I like as well dicks -
Do you feel be part of the LGBT community or...?
How do you feel? Or do you feel completly out?
- That's a really good question... I never think about it actually because... -
- that"s true... -
- when I was at college -
- I only had friends... -
- more or less outside the closet -
- more or less yeah? -
- and well yeah they was all my friends -
- and... after starting.. -
- well -
- at uni it was different -
- because when you meet new people... -
- you don't really know about... -
- opening yourself and stuff -
- when you're not sure with yourself -
- and... -
- well after word... -
- after word I thought... -
- I don't care -
- It's not really that, just they are not really my friends -
- but... -
- actually have got two sides, sometimes I... -
- I prefer be with -
- people only from the LGBT community -
- with who I feel nice but sometimes... -
- I'm fed up -
- and I want to hang more -
- with -
- straight people, I'm gonna call them like this -
The boring people
- The boring people yeah -
To finish do you want to... do you have any advise
for anyone who is asking himself
who's bisexual or...
to reassure or...
Last words for the end you know
- if you realize... -
- I'm not gonna say this like that, it gonna sound weird -
- but well -
- if you realize... -
- you are attract by both gender -
- it's normal -
- and... -
- that's what I wanted to say... -
- that... -
- you should not try to much too -
- define yourself... -
- How can I say -
- Everythink is not only black or white. -
- That's it -
- Don't choice a side -
- I mean, there is no sides, you don't have to choice a side... like people who say -
- "you play with the both sides" -
- no you don't play -
You are in balance
- "You are in balance, you have the ass between two chairs" -
- but the fact is... -
- well you have to find balance for yourself -
yeah
- but... -
- I don't know really what to say as... -
- as... -
- well -
- as... advices...? -
- to a girl who think she is bisexual? -
- don't try to determinate which side you prefer -
- that's it and even with someone ask you -
- "what do you prefer?" -
- you don't have to have preferences -
- that's it -
Well...
Thank you for watching,
