Mackinac Island is another world. It is in many ways throwback to a different

time. There are no cars on the island. It's a time to think differently, to

experience the world, to bring your senses alive in a different kind of way

and for all those reasons it's an ideal place for Arts Weekend. the connection

The connection for this weekend is my mom really. Her and my father thought "well what if we

did a weekend on Mackinac where professors and students came up and then

create an Arts Weekend' and it's blossomed and now will be our 25th year

next year into a really big group which is wonderful. to see students who are

To see students who are dedicated to making this their passion and their profession, it's a great place

to celebrate that. We always enjoy visiting with Mr. Manoogian and his art

collection. Mr. Manoogian talks about how he got into art collecting and how he

accumulated this wonderful collection. To do a program for 25 years really

demonstrates the strength of the program and the longevity that it could hold.

To have that ongoing support, those people who recognize now what perhaps we didn't

fully recognize when we were younger, being together supporting our alma mater,

that recognition, that giving back, that opportunity to still enjoy what you're

doing but give the future as well. A portion of the revenue from the rooms

that are sold over the weekend go directly back to students. We bring them

to Arts Weekend and they are able to talk a little bit about their experience

and about the difference that the scholarship that they received has made

in their lives. The gathering at Grand Hotel and on Mackinac Island is a

perfect opportunity to slow things down a little bit and to think intentionally

about the kind of community we want to create and art does that for us and to

do that in such a beautiful space that affords us the time to be together and

to think reflectively is very special. Go green! Go white!

How to create a variable in the SAS University Edition? - Duration: 2:42.

Hello, I'm Johanna Aalto and in this video I'm going to show you how to create a new categorial variable in the SAS University Edition.

This video continues the lesson in the previous video, called How to import data from URL to the SAS University Edition.

Let's start!

From the upper link you can find the data we use in this example.

This video link shows you how to import that data to SAS.

Let's create a new categorial variable, called "marrstat", such that

1 for single female, 2 for single male, 3 for married female and 4 for married male.

We create a new data set, called "b". It's not a good name, because it's not describing.

But we keep it here because it's simple.

Using set statement, we can read data from existing data set called a.

Then we create a new variable called marrstat.

The dot is used to represent a missing value of variable. There are no values yet.

Let's continue to if-then statements.

With these statements we give values to marrstat.

For example, if a person is a female but not married, status will be 1.

If the person is not female and not married, status will be 2 - and so on.

What does the values zero and one tell us?

You can find the descriptions from link in the blue box.

On the output data we can see the values.

On the first row we have a female, not married. On the second row female, married.

On the third a male, not married. On the fourth row male, married - and so on.

Let's run the program by clicking the running person.

Note, that in the output data we have table "a" open.

Be sure, you have a right table open. In this case table "b".

And here are results. On the third column we can find variable "marrstat".

Always check that you wrote your statements correctly and got the right results.

Thank you for watching. More videos coming.

DR.

RAHIM: Education was my way out: my way out of the ghetto, my way out of public assistance,

my way out to this direction based on how you were brought up.

So education basically opened up that door and said, "Listen, you don't have to follow

this path.

There's a different path for you."

Growing up in poverty, raised by a single parent, struggling with abuse, struggling

with a learning disability, school was not my priority.

Life was my priority, so I struggled in school.

Then I discovered that I can excel, even with my learning disability, with the tools that

were given to me by the online environment.

And once I got into that environment, all of that experience that I had as a kid – perseverance,

resilience – all that kicked in and I went from being a struggling student to a student

that was accelerating.

So sometimes it's just taking that first step and then creating an environment that

is positive to help you move forward.

Esports Major at Shenandoah University - Duration: 4:34.

so you think about the NFL the NBA and MLB and NHL and what goes into

making an organization like that function think about the jobs that go

behind that the coaches the owner the you know the marketing people the all

the people that go into there's lots of things that happen make that

organization function and be do well that's what we're seeing with

competitive gaming right now in the esports industry are those kinds of

positions those kinds of opportunities are opening up it is very similar to

professional sports now and that is esports we're seeing franchise based

teams that are based in cities so you get a team in Houston and Dallas

Philadelphia and now we're getting an overwatch team which is another one of

our games right here in our backyard in Washington DC and we're really excited

about the opportunity that presents to us for the future and partnerships

internships and job opportunities for our students here it's huge because it's

such a big industry and not a lot of colleges or universities are really

picking up on that yet and so being able to get a jump start into the program and

be ahead of everyone else to get the edge is really big for us 1 billion

dollar industry with 300 million fans that is what the esports industry is set

to be by 2019 that's only one year away esports is a growing thing it's amazing

how fast it has gone from something that was just kind of on the fringes to now

being shown on television right it's on ESPN now it's it's one of those things

that has just skyrocketed within the past couple of years we're one of 90

schools in the United States to compete at the varsity level of esports we have

coaches directors and a school sponsored program there's one university with a

multitrack major and a competitive varsity esports team and you're looking

at it

for the students that are looking for something like this that are interested

in emerging technologies this is a prime opportunity for them to you know take

advantage of something like this they're right at the edge of what is possible

right now in terms of technology and education esports is one of the fastest

growing industries in the country particularly in the sports realm and so

we want our students who are interested in that area to be able to have a leg up

not just to compete but to be able to run these events to do the marketing and

communications for them to be coaches this is a major emerging industry and

once again Shenandoah is at the forefront of training those who will be

involved in not just participating but in leading it it's a very robust major

with three different tracks a student can choose to major in esports management

esports coaching which is a huge growing field right now especially with all the

universities like I mentioned 900 of them have these teams 90 competitive

teams at the varsity level but also at the high school level the state of

California the state of Georgia have already said they're recognizing esports

as an official sport in their states but they're also going to have the opportunity

to get a degree in esports with a track in media and communication to do things

like learn how to stream events like we have going on right now that is how

people watch and consume esports with this being the future with these new

competitive esports leagues coming to the forefront that's a world of jobs

that currently no one has trained or prepared for and so with a program

like this in a traditional setting of sports you can get a sports management

major you can learn how to run a sports program a sports team how to manage that

how to own and operate and this helps you to do that in the world of esports

Shenandoah really has positioned itself to be on the forefront of what esports is

and what it can be we're gonna doing something that no other school in the

world is doing and that's combining our varsity level team and our new VR

varsity level team with an esports degree – major that you can get and

study to work in the industry in a number of different ways there are some

schools that have a in one area or offering some programs or

classes or certificates but no degrees where they have three different tracks

like we have there are some varsity level teams across the country and across

the world but not to the point where they have a VR varsity level team like

we're going to have and when we combine all that it makes Shenandoah a very unique

place that's positioned to be become the esports hub of the future.
