Auto news on Youtube Feb 18 2018

Hi I'm Nicole and I'm here to learn.

So the second book I've read so far this year has been Self-Knowledge by The School of Life.

The School of Life is a really big YouTube channel that talks about things like

philosophy and how to know yourself better and psychology, literature and...

just the humanities and liberal arts in general.

And it's a channel that I really like and I am

in general, I suppose, pretty interested in self-development I guess

but I feel like it sounds really corny and "self-help-ish" to say that

but essentially that's what it is and I'm OK with that!

So I read this book and it only took me about a day

It's really short

And I actually found it really good.

There are some exercises throughout the book that

ask you certain questions and guide you through

how to process your thoughts and your feelings and that kind of thing and I found that really helpful.

That said, I feel like if you–well!

I feel like if you're a fan of the channel already–the YouTube channel for The School of Life–

I feel like you will likely benefit from and enjoy the book.

However, I also feel like if you *are* a fan of the channel

and you have gone through their content

and all of that stuff, none of this will be particularly new

to you and if you read The Book of Life

which is free online from The School of Life

again, I feel like none of it will be particularly new to you

but I think it's really nice to have things all in one place

and it's a really nice gift that you could give someone

Maybe this would have been useful before Christmas...

But whatever! It's never too late.

So, I don't know. I gave it a 4/5 stars

which, for me, with these kinds of books

I suppose doesn't really mean that much.

It's a lot more emotional than anything else.

I feel like I can't really ask that much more from the book

Um, it's a great kind of gift type book

I can't really think of a type of person that this would not

be for...though I can think of lots of people who

would not be keen on it...if you know what I mean.

like, I feel like this...if anybody were to

um, employ the techniques that are posited in the book

that would be really useful.

But I can think of people who might pick it up and say

"Ugh I don't need this kind of psycho babble" blahblahblah that kind of thing

SO I'm going to say, I'd recommend it to people

who are already fans of the channel,

to people who might be open to

the kind of introspection that the book

and the channel in general and School of Life as a thing

encourages. And anyone who's going through

lots of anxiety or borderline depression–

I feel like for full on depression I am not a psychologist

I cannot tell anybody what to do. I don't know

what the best things are in that instance

BUT I feel like for people going through a bit of a rough patch,

have experienced social anxieties, issues with communicating–those kinds of things–

I feel like, as someone who's experienced some of those things,

this book would definitely be useful for

those kinds of people...maybe.

Soo, check it out if you like!

If anybody has read this book already

and totally agrees with me or totally disagrees with me

let me know. If you like School of Life, let me know.

I think they're cool.

If you have any other recommendations

knowing that I quite liked this one

let me know in the comments below

and I'll see you again next time. Bye!

trying to draw a self portrait || Happy Valentines Day! || sarahrosepgh - Duration: 7:21.

(romantic smooth jazz plays in background) Hello friends, I'm Sarah Rose and in today's

video I'm drawing a self-portrait for Valentines day- for myself.

(chuckles) These are the supplies I used and they're listed down below too.

So starting right off I just want to demonstrate how fire I am guys (chuckles) um but for some

reason I decided to go with this as the picture to base my portrait off of.

Not this, or this, or this, I went with that.

May be 'cause I look genuinely happy.

(music intensifies) Just kidding, okay, anyways so I decided to draw myself, mostly because

I had a school project and it was a self portrait and I needed to sketch first because I'm not

that comfortable with drawing self-portraits!

So yeah, right now I did the basic egg shape that I showed in many videos, I'll link some

of them I guess (chuckles a bit).

I was looking in a mirror and at that picture I showed and I was just trying my best to

get a face shape that was as close as possible to mine.

This is just a sketch so it didn't have to be 100% there.

But this is probably one of the best portraits that I'be made for myself.

It's not exactly the same as how I look but it's pretty good!

Now I'm just going in with my favorite little tool to use, a smudging stump.

I didn't actually use them before this year because for some reason I always thought smudging

graphite looked funny I thought but I think it turns out I was doing it wrong.

I think the last time I did do it I was probably in middle school or younger and I thought

it looked funny, but NOW, (in silly voice) oh boy I just get smudging and I can't stop

(silly voice over now).

Now I, uh...(loses track of what she was saying) I have clear glasses so I was struggling a

little bit with those, I sort of give up, I tried my best.

Basically I just drew a bunch and then erased a bunch and redrew a bunch.

So, now that we know the process of my drawing, we can chat a little bit.

How are you guys?

How are you doing?

I hope you guys's Valentine's Days were good, if you don't like Valentines day, whatever

man.

You don't have to like it.

Right now I'm drinking lemon water, it's kind of refreshing (giggles) Okay now I'm drawing

my hair line and my hair and stuff, um, my hair is curly and super dark and I was struggling

a bit with making curls and of course this is a sketch so I sort of gave up but I also

gave up on the bigger piece a little bit too (awkward chuckle) with my hair because it's

so dark and in the picture it's really dark too.

I was like "I don't think I'm going to be able to draw the curls in" so basically I

just colored it in and smudged it a bunch and then colored it in more.

Right there I just messed up my nose and I tried to get it back to where it looked like

my nose, but it kind of does and doesn't...I don't know.

I think you might be able to tell, it's a little bit different.

There we go, I'm trying to redraw the glasses and stuff.

This took me a really long time guys, I was listening to the podcast, the Black Tapes,

it's creepy and cool, I can link it down below.

I was listening to that and this took me more than an hour, and it was supposed to be a

sketch, like a loose "this is what I look like, I'm gonna draw this and I'm gonna make

a Valentine's Day video out of it" but instead it turned into me obsessively erasing and

redrawing and re-smudging parts of my face because it didn't look exactly like me.

But, yeah, I was listening to the Black Tapes, it's creepy, it's about...ghost hunters and,

you know, paranormal research and there's a lady podcast journalist woman and there's

this dude, Dr.Strand who is a ghost researcher or paranormal investigator that doesn't actually

believe in it and it pretty cool.

You could give it a listen.

I think it came out in 2015, so, it's, ya' know, a lot of it there.

I'm not actually sure if they are going to make another season of it but there are 3

seasons right now, they're all like 12 episodes, may be season 3 is not.

It's pretty cool.

OH, um, also recently I made a series of small promo videos for my sisters' candle company,

EttaArlene Candles.

That is linked down below too.

Yeah, they're really cute, there's one that's 40 seconds an a couple that are shorter so

I'm going to leave links to that in the description box too.

It was fun making them.

The candles are handmade, Vegan, soy candles.

They smell good and there are some weird scents like "Man" and "Mother of Dragons" that smells

really good, you know Game of Thrones fans if you're out there listening you can check

it out.

My sister Amber is in one of the videos, my brother is in another video, so cute!

So I'll just link those down below.

Okay, back to the drawing.

I'm smudging around still.

We're at like the finishing touches, I'm going in with a gel pen to try adding detail, of

course adding dots to the eyes, shine dots, make the person look a lot more alive.

And it looks like we are at the end of the video so, okay.

Thank you guys for watching, everything is listed down below: my supplies, my Patreon,

my Pinterest, my social media, all those videos and the Black Tapes.

Yeah, I'm just adding some finishing touches.

OH, also I'm gonna be updating my Patreon more so go there.

Alright, see you guys next week, bye.

mmmmm YUMMY

City of Hays, Kansas v. Vogt: The Limits of Self-Incrimination [SCOTUSbrief] - Duration: 4:04.

Matt Vogt worked for the City of Hays and he applied for a job with the City of Haysville,

outside of Wichita.

In his interview, he disclosed the fact that he had gotten a knife in his position as a

police officer at the city of Hays.

Haysville offered him a job, but told him that he had to tell the City of Hays that he had

taken this knife and return it.

So he went back to the City of Hays and he returned the knife.

His chief asked him to write a statement about what happened.

This is what Matt claims was a self-incriminating statement that he was compelled to write.

He wrote a one-sentence statement that was vague and he resigned.

The chief then asked him to write a longer statement, which he did.

That statement was used to gather evidence and the evidence and the statement were turned

over to the Kansas Bureau of Investigations.

Ultimately, charges were brought against Matt and the position at the City of Haysville

was rescinded.

He was charged with two felonies for taking this knife.

But at the probable cause hearing, the judge concluded that there wasn't enough evidence

to go forward, even with his compelled statements about taking the knife.

Vogt would like to sue the City of Hays for money damages for violating his Fifth Amendment rights.

The Fifth Amendment states that you shall not be compelled in a criminal case to be

a witness against yourself.

So that's kind of the million dollar question in the case.

How broad is the definition of criminal case?

Is it merely a trial right or is it right that extends beyond a trial to other parts

of the criminal process?

The steps in a criminal procedure are generally as follows.

First, a defendant is arrested.

After charging and within 24 hours of being arrested, a Gerstein hearing takes place where

a court determines whether or not there was probable cause for the arrest to take place.

After that, there's a probable cause hearing where the court determines whether there's

enough evidence to go forward with a trial.

The next phase is a trial and then sentencing and possible an appeal.

So the Vogt case got as far as the probable cause hearing.

And at this probable cause hearing, his statements were introduced as evidence.

But nevertheless, the judge concluded there wasn't enough evidence to continue with the

trial.

So Vogt argues that if you look at the Fifth Amendment, it's very clear that criminal case

is broader than just a trial.

When you look at its history, its text, and its origins, all those factors indicate that

the term "criminal case" should be broader than just a trial right.

The Fifth Amendment uses that term, "criminal case."

It doesn't use the term "criminal trial,

for example.

Also, it doesn't use the term "criminal prosecution," which is a term used in the Sixth Amendment,

which is much more narrow than "criminal case."

Hays argues that the issue in this case is not what a criminal trial ends or begins.

The issue instead is whether or not a person is being a witness against himself or herself.

In a probable cause hearing, someone's innocence or guilt is not being determined.

Instead, what's being determined is whether or not there's enough evidence to go forward

with a trial and you're not a witness against yourself says Hays, unless it's in a context

in which you can be declared innocent or guilty.

And of course, a probable cause hearing doesn't offer that opportunity.

It seems like a very simple question:

Can self-incriminating statements be admitted at a probable cause hearing?

Yet it's never been decided by the Supreme Court.

So, this case gives the Court an opportunity to look back at what the founders have done,

to look at their precedent, and to decide this important question about how broad and

how far the right against self-incrimination extends.

Lee Hyori Recalls Her Past Dating Life While Listening To YoonA's Self-Composed Song(News) - Duration: 2:04.

Lee Hyori Recalls Her Past Dating Life While Listening To YoonA's Self-Composed Song

On the February 18 episode of Hyoris Homestay 2, Lee Hyori asked YoonA if shed ever written a song.

YoonA bashfully replied that shed released a song called When the Wind Blows, for which she wrote the lyrics. It was released as part of the SM STATION project last year. Soompi. Display. News. English. 300x250. Mobile. English. 300x250. ATF.

Lee Hyori immediately played the song for her and Lee Sang Soon to hear and praised YoonA for her voice and lyrics.

The words of the song, recalling the days one spent with a devoted lover, made Lee Hyori reminisce about her own dating life.

Back in those days, Id call my boyfriend when I got drunk and didnt know where I was, she said. Then Id just hang up.

And hed keep calling me back, telling me to look around me for landmarks and asking who I was with. Sometimes it was because I really was drunk, and sometimes I just liked having someone come find me..

She continued, But Ive never done that with [Lee Sang Soon]. For some reason, I never wanted to make him worry like that. Maybe it was because he was the one I wanted to marry?.

Lee Sang Soon said, Its because we were always together anyway.

Self-Diagnosing Power Inverter with MAX31875 (#MakeWithMaxim Contest) - Duration: 1:56.

Hi, my name is Stephen and this is my entry for Make with Maxim contest.

IGBT based Power Inverters are becoming more popular everyday, and one of most important

applications of this Power Electronics topology is driving the AC motor of Electrical vehicles,

and driving the traction motor in the most efficient way is a desirable achieve.

But as we are dealing with power level about tens of kilowatt hour, heating will occur

in this unit, and if it the components temperature increases out of control, it may lead an IGBT

to fail.

In high power applications, a failure in any inverter's leg may be catastrophic, not only

for itself but for the device connected to.

So, the ability of self-monitoring and self-diagnosing may prevent failures and bigger damages.

And here is where MAX31875 saves the day.

The tiny package allows precise monitoring of each IGBT, making possible not only just

monitor the system but predict failures and adjust power output levels and its behavior

for every environment condition, always working at the most efficient range.

So, this project documents the idea of using a small, precise and low-power temperature

sensor to allow the main controller to monitor, adjust and predict, based on temperature curves

and live data, the behavior of power inverters dedicated to run AC motors, preventing over

temperature damages and enhancing system's efficiency and reliability.
