this English course that is of spoken English has been specially designed for
the needs of the North Indians or the Hindi speaking population of the country
now this course of spoken English has been designed in a pyramid method at the
base of the pyramid you have the sounds of English now how do you understand the
sounds of English you understand them through vowels and consonants so at the
base we will be doing vowels consonants that is basically to say that I want you
to get aware of the sounds of English now you have to understand that the
sounds of English are somewhat different from the sounds of Hindi even the
combination of sounds leave alone the individual sounds the combination of
sounds are different I'll give you an example English has the word initial
cluster that is school that is school but if you go up north the people
speaking in Hindi you will often find the eastern belt making it is school why
make us say spelling or pronouncing school at the beginning of the word is
often very difficult so these are certain methods why I want you to these
are certain reasons why I want you to understand the sounds to be aware of the
sounds to be able to produce the sounds so that you can have a better
pronunciation when English is concerned after this I would like to go on to
words that is vocabulary when I say vocabulary I'll be doing a very basic
vocabulary and throughout the course I will be trying to give you more and
new words for your usage then I will be doing something called stress now you
might ask me what is stress now when I say stress I definitely do
not mean your mental stress or mental pressures what I basically mean is the
amount of force that you put into producing a particular sound be it an
award or in a sentence I'll give you an example for example if you take the word
produce PR o dus E you can divide the world into two syllables probe and use
if you focus on this area and put more of stress in this area you're saying
produce which is a verb you the economic okay I'll change the sentence when you I
say produce I'm telling a word produce the produce good results for example
however when I focus on this part of the world and I say produce I basically mean
a noun the economic produce of the country has been low so you notice that
if I change the stress of different parts of different sounds in the part of
a word the entire meaning of the word changes now coming to sentence what I
mean by sentences I will be doing parts of grammar with you when I say grammar I
will not ask you what is a noun what is a verb what is a preposition no
what I'll be doing is I will be taking SBO
that a subject verb object as the base and from here I will break it down
further to explain how I was positioned in a sentence now if you understand if
you take it any Hindi sentence for example meg hurt Shahu in that you have
man is your subject that is what we are talking about so this becomes your
subject Jarrah huh who is your work because this is showing going that is
action and this becomes your object so all your hindi sentences are framed in
this way are structured in a formula called sov however this very sentence
when translated into English becomes I am going home
so I which is man remains your subject and going is your verb and home becomes
your object all English sentences are structured and SVO so basically what I
will be focusing is on SVO and how SVO can be further broken down to understand
the concepts of grammar why I do this see if you had to some of you belonging
to the English medium schools have learnt the rules of English grammar if
you had to remember the grammar you wouldn't need to go through this course
the fact that you know remembering the rules of grammar takes a long time that
is why I don't want to put you through any more rules I would rather give you a
logical explanation to what exactly happens inside the language after tense
I will go to something called communicative competence what I mean by
communicative competence is it is not enough knowing a particular language for
example if I say that I know Hindi the the knowledge of a language is not
enough we are supposed to know how speakers of a language it is very
important for us to know how to speak when to speak what to speak that is
communicative competence how do you communicate more effectively that is all
about what I will be doing here for example if I say to Nikola Jose that is
not a very formal way of saying please leave the room
I would probably show respect and say up crepier yaja say je up so if I have
to say if I have say politely no to somebody but I have to be polite
no as often offensive to a lot of people but in English there are ways where you
can politely say or no or politely refuse an offer these are certain things
that I will be doing in this part of the course and finally what I'll be doing is
something called MTI or mother tongue influence now this is no new fact for us
that all our English the English that in the entire India or the entire country
speaks is heavily influenced by the mother tongue of that region for
examples as I mentioned here it is very difficult for most Hindi speakers of the
eastern belt to actually say school without bringing any either it always
becomes a school it is very difficult for a lot of eastern Indians to
differentiate between sir and Shaw for example shame and shame it is very
difficult for most of the people down south that isn't Tamil Nadu to make a
difference between car and gun so these are certain mother tongue influences
that all of us have being English being a foreign language to us most of us have
such mother tongue influences what I want you to understand this this can be
got rid enough and that's something that I want to help you with in this final
section of the course
