Strengths of the School of Education ~IUN~ - Duration: 0:57.

So

Indiana University Northwest's Teacher Education

Program is because of three

major components. I'd like to share those with you.

First, is that we have very strong field experiences.

The teachers come in, and through the four years that

they're in the program, they get to

more and more teaching. By the time they are ready for student teaching,

they have taught in the classroom for days upon days upon days.

Secondly, we offer an inquiry based

program. Our courses are steeped

in inquiry learning and students have to

think critically and analyze what they think about things.

Thirdly, for me, I think the strongest

thing is that we have a dual-licensure program.

So when they graduate, they are licensed in both elementary

education and special education.

Teacher Testimonials - School of Education ~IUN~ - Duration: 2:25.

I've always been interested in being a teacher, and

even though I strayed away for about a year,

I realized where my true passion actually lied

and that was making a difference and educating children.

I chose Indiana University Northwest for my teacher

education because I know that Indiana University

is a great college. Being able to stay

in the area with my family really meant a lot

to me. Also, both of my parents went to

Indiana University Northwest and came out with a great education

so I knew that I good hands.

I wanted to become a teacher because

I love working with children, I've always wanted to work with children,

and the best place to do it is at an elementary school.

Well, when I was in high school, the first thing I heard they had the

best teacher education program in the country, and I thought,

'that's the place for me.'

I wanted to seek a career in education

because I did some substitute teaching while I was

taking courses and I realized that

I could reach students in a different way

by integrating technology into

whatever I worked with them. With math,

with business, with counseling.

So I knew that I could break it down for them very simply.

I heard great stories

from friends and family that had already gone through the

education program at Indiana University Northwest.

So I knew from that research

that it was the best place for me.

In my sophomore year of college I had a passion

for working with kids, and

my goal was to be a teacher and a coach,

which I started out on

at Merrillville High School, and then

I moved on and I developed a passion to

lead more kids and to actually

work with teachers and to become an educational leader.

And that's what lead me to IUN. The reason why I chose

Indiana University Northwest for my masters program

at the time, and even to this day,

would be because of reputation. It was a very reputable

program. Some of the people that I looked up to in education

were professors and mentors of mine.

Inspiring Great Teachers - School of Education ~IUN~ - Duration: 1:43.

The Indiana University School of Education inspired me to become a great

teacher because it was filled with great teachers. Every day I got there, all of

the teachers were fully prepared and ready to answer any questions that any

of the students might have. They were very organized, as well as

always willing to lend a helping hand to anybody that might need one.

Indiana University Northwest inspired me to become a good teacher because the

professors were great. They cared about you very much and they did everything

they possibly could to help you become successful.

Indiana University inspired me

to be a great teacher by providing me with such a great framework to build

upon to help students of all ethnicities and cultures and communities and levels

of learning.

Indiana University Northwest School of Education inspired me to be a

great educational leader because of the experience I gained for getting my

master's program. The field experience has many different administrative points

that you have to go through. The people that run the program are

experienced administrators in this area - both at the high school and elementary

level so they know what it takes to be a successful administrator. So you don't

only work on the content knowledge in the field but you also work on the

interpersonal skills, the true leadership skills, and the ethical background that

you need to be a successful administrator.

Graduate Prgrams - School of Education ~IUN~ - Duration: 1:49.

I'm Elizabeth Slough. I am a sophomore English teacher at Hobart High School,

and I am also enrolled in Indiana University Northwest's graduate program for educational

leadership. I was inspired to enroll in the program after researching many

different programs and finding that IUN's program was very personal and

hands-on which was a better fit for me. I feel as though I've learned a ton

through the program in such a short amount of time. What inspired me to be an

administrator was all of my years as a teacher I loved empowering children and

working with them, and I really felt like I wanted to empower teachers as well. And

I feel really blessed to have had all the opportunities I've had at the school

city of Hobart which have really furthered my ambition to become an

administrator.

Hi I'm Jessica Flores and I teach sixth grade social studies at

Lakeridge New Tech Middle School in Gary, Indiana. I am also a student at Indiana

University Northwest and I am enrolled in the urban teaching educational

program for my Master's which I should receive in May of 2018. What inspired me

to further my education at IUN are several several factors: my children was

one of them and to you know be a role model for them and so that they know

you're never too old to further your education; and also having offered a

position as a long-term sub at another school but not being able to continue

because I didn't have my license or the educational background that I needed to

continue. And so here I am.
