(upbeat music)

- [Interviewer] What are you most excited about

for the future of Lions?

- I'm most excited about our digital technology,

our ability to use MyLion to bring 1.5 million

Lions around the world together

to increase our service impact.

And the way this is going to impact on us, with

the MyLion, is it is gonna help us with the communication,

and we are going to have chats, we are going to be

able to put our service projects on there.

We are going to invite the world to help us

to do more than we have ever done before,

as we strive to serve 200 million people per year.

And I am excited today to have two young Lions,

Michael Middleton and Katherine Middleton with me,

and they, Michael is the President of his club

and they are the future of our association as we

are going to strive to see the power of We

in the coming year.

- [Interviewer] So I want to know, from you,

much younger members of Lions, what are you doing

to sort of evolve and change Lions to make it more

aggressive for the future.

- Absolutely.

So we're actually trying to really outreach digitally,

to reach younger audiences as well.

So we have our district and local club web pages that

we are trying to keep as up to date as well as possible.

To get the message out to individuals

that are in the millennial generation,

like my sister and I, trying to get us more connected,

and actually more aware of just the amazing work that

Lions do around the world every day.

- [Interviewer] So what have you found has been the most

effective technique for getting new members.

In terms of like how you're reaching out,

how you are telling your story.

What do they get most excited about?

- I think using social media platforms like Snapchat,

Instagram and Facebook really meet millennials

and the younger generation where they are at.

So, kind of coming to hem at their own turf

really gets people involved, at their own level.

- [Interviewer] Michael, one of the things that

I have heard from other Lions' members is that the

younger Lions do not want to go to a lunch meeting.

They would rather just go out and do it.

Is that true?

- Absolutely. I think the greatest way that you can

get young people and younger generations more involved is,

instead of inviting them to your local,

average monthly or weekly meeting, whenever you meet.

Instead invite them to a service project.

Ask them "Hey, can you help us pack these food trucks?"

Or "Can you help us sort these glasses?"

Get them excited about what we are actually here to do.

We are not actually a club about meeting every month,

or every whenever.

We are a club about humanitarian service.

So as long as you get that message out there of

Hey, get involved with us, the joining the club and

coming to the regular meetings, that will happen naturally.

- [Interviewer] And Katherine. What has been the one

service project that got you most excited about Lions,

like, "Oh, I'm staying"?

- I think cleaning the glasses and seeing them go out

across the world. Really, you are involved in every

level of it, from packing them, to cleaning them,

to learning how to read eyeglasses too.

So being involved at so many levels and seeing the

impact that it makes firsthand I think really got me

excited about Lionism.

- [Interviewer] And that is what drives them to stay.

Because if they do not see the impact,

You know, what impact am I making?

- Exactly. That is the whole point.

Being able to see that one pair of glasses

can actually, seeing the eyes open and actually

seeing that child see their mother for the first time,

the experience is indescribable and it brings tears

to anyone's eyes that has actually been a part of it.

I highly recommend it.

- [Interviewer] Jerome when you hear these stories,

are you buoyed on the future of Lions.

Are you, like alright, it is in capable hands,

I don't need to worry.

- Oh I am excited about the opportunity to pass

the torch on to another generation,

because Lions brings smiles. We serve.

We bring in more members, we involve our members,

we develop leadership skills

and we expand into new communities.

And as we do that, the future of Lions is in great hands,

with these young people who are moving us forward.

Thank you.

San Diego Realtor | Great Advertising or Digital Trash | Matterport and Video - Duration: 5:38.

Hello really good to see you again today. Thank you for joining me. So what are you

gonna get out of the vlog, if you watch? Wel,l if you're a homeowner you're going

to learn about everything that Realtors do, video Matterport, address specific

websites ,and then the distribution methods we use to share your property. If

you're a Realtor I'm going to share a term that I heard from a photographer it

was called digital trash. Let me explain. What he did was he pointed out and

something I already knew, was that you have to have the right images in the

right format. Now I'm going to show you a motion graphic that I did that will show

at the beginning of most social media But YouTube's a little bit different, but

I'm going to show you this motion graphic, and then we'll come back and get

right on point.

I really had a good time putting that motion graphic together and it'll be

featured is the lead portion the front part of an Instagram ad it demonstrates

that we do video motion graphics that we have real advertising campaigns for our

clients homes. Digital trash the photographer was

trying to say, if you don't capture the person's attention with your image right

away it's just going to be a failure. You might as well have it in the trash.

Many agents don't even use video, so they don't have anything to put in the

trash, but if you don't put your video together properly, it'll be a big mistake.

Many agents will take and grab their telephone and do a shaky walk around.

Yeah we're out here in this most beautiful home, you should see this

garage it's got the most beautiful floor. Where you can see very little of the

property that's featured and they consider that utilization of video. The

photographer called that digital trash. They've actually done Studies on what

gets watched in different platforms. Now take for instance 77% of any video I do

about Matterport is watched, meaning most people go into a YouTube and if you

watch 60% of the presentation you did really well.

Seventy-seven percent for Matterport Now what does that mean to home sellers

and real estate agents? It should mean that the public has a desire to know

more about Matterport and they're looking for agents that utilize it. I've

said for a long time video, Matterport and address specific

websites. Now address specific website, what that is is that keeps your

completed video, your Matterport out of the trash. If you have all these images

and you have no way to present them they might as well be in the trash. The

photographer was pointing out that he does some of the nicest work and then he

goes to look for any place that it's posted, beside the MLS it's just never

there. The agent doesn't utilize to the full extent all of the media that he has.

Why would a photographer call me? What he was looking for was access to the

provider of my single page website. He's in another part of the United States and

he felt as though I would share that with him. Well I probably would have but

the reality is we build each one of the sites independently for our client.

We feature the Matterport, a photo gallery everything's right there. I'm

gonna put a link and then the top of this YouTube they'll slide out all you.

All you have to do is tap it'll take you to one of our sample sites. We do this in every

price range, it doesn't matter if you're one of our clients ,we believe that you

deserve this. We don't want our clients information about the sale of their home

to go into the digital trash. The discussion with that photographer was

one of the most interesting that I have had all week and here's why. He asked me

if he could contact me after he got his real-estate license he's taking his

courses right now. And I said why do you want to become a realtor and he said,

because the quality of work that most of the people do in my area to showcase

their homes is really very poor. He thought that he could build a unique

value proposition. He thought I was a rarity, well let me explain something to

you. I'm not really rare I have people call me based upon these videos that I

post in YouTube asking me for agents around the country. And similar or alike

agents all share the same information. Would you like somebody in Memphis,

Tennessee, that does the exact same thing I do?

Or maybe Las Vegas Nevada the number of agents that are going to video, Matterport address specific websites all tied together, so that the information for

their clients doesn't end up in the digital trash is growing. It's been a

pleasure spending a few moments with you today.

And remember you're a Realtor you can do anything!

Today in Technology: The digital transformation of Johnson Controls - Duration: 2:44.

The key to prospering in this day of digital transformation is

really focusing on your core.

At Johnson Controls,

we wake up everyday trying to figure out the most cost

effective ways of delivering higher performance buildings.

>> Johnson Controls' story has been a long one. We're 132 years old.

We've gone all the way from when Warren invented the thermostat,

to an energy crisis back in the 70's, to now concerns about

urban sustainability and climate change.

We learned through each of these investments that there

are always great opportunities for people who can adapt.

>> I love what I do, I started out

in 1977 selling service on air conditioning equipment.

I think about technology as a way to take something that's

good and make it better.

Making buildings smarter, making them more energy efficient.

Those goals and objectives,

they haven't changed, the technology has advanced greatly.

Today, I'm responsible for our connected chiller program.

In the past, data was gathered on a clipboard,

and our technician would have to analyze these handwritten notes.

What we've done is we've provided connectivity to

the chiller and the ability to put that data up in the Cloud.

>> Microsoft has been an incredible partner for

us in our transformation journey, providing us the core

technology foundation around Cloud and some of the enterprise

solutions, which allows us to leverage data coming from

buildings to create new value for our customers.

>> We're doing things today that I really

couldn't of dreamed of 34 years ago.

>> Everything is digital at this point and so

you've got to have some degree of digital acumen.

It's easy to pine for the good old days, but we have to

have systems and training that allow our employees to grow and

evolve, regardless of where you are in your career.

Quality employment, quality jobs,

skilled labor are incredibly important issues for us.

>> To me, it's been lifelong learning and it's

all about helping our company thrive and compete and survive.

If we don't, another competitor will.

The things that we're working on are really going to form

the foundation for the world, that our children and

our grandchildren and

ensuing generations are going to live in.

Technology for

technology's sake isn't really particularly valuable.

It's really in applying the technology to solve human

problems is where you unlock the value.

Digital Dangers: Online Gaming - Duration: 2:06.

I'm special agent Dennis Fetting with Homeland Security Investigations. We

investigate crimes on the Internet. I want to keep you and your child safe

from digital dangers. Another important topic that I want to talk about is the

vulnerabilities of online gaming and so this is both tablet based gaming phone

gaming and console based gaming so your Xbox ones or your PlayStation fours. The

most important thing for parents to realize is that when your children is

doing online gaming or participating in online gaming they are playing games

with people from all around the world and a lot of these people are strangers

to your children and so while your children may think of them as friends or

people that they play games with we have found in our investigations that adult

predators because they know children gravitate towards online games have

begun creating fake profiles in the online gaming world and they then

pretend to be a same-aged border girl to elicit information from them and from

there they will usually transition them from the gaming world to some sort of

social media or to a cell phone. For parents the biggest thing that you need

to be aware of is that the video game is not necessarily the problem that is the

meeting place that is the vessel for these predators to transition your child

and so what a predator is going to try and do is they are gonna meet your child

in an online gaming environment and then they are going to transition them to

some sort of social media or provide them an email address or a cell phone

where they can then begin to elicit pictures from them ask for videos more

personal information. What you can do as a parent is you need to be involved in

your online your child's online gaming accounts and activities you need to find

out who do they play games with who are they friends with what sort of

activities and discussions occur in chat rooms and online gaming really get

involved and pry into what they're doing in online games to make sure that the

people that they're playing these games with are not strangers that that you

know are asking for information but just kids looking to have a good time in the

online game. To report suspected online child

exploitation in Tennessee contact Homeland Security Investigations at 615-664-5501

Centre for Digital Scholarship tools - Duration: 2:54.

The Centre for Digital Scholarship is a service that the library provides to

support work in the digital scholarship area -- both a physical space in and a

service area. Digital scholarship is using the newer technologies like text

analysis, data analysis, and GIS to give researchers an opportunity to display

data and interpretations in a different way than they have in the past. The space

is open to undergraduates, postgraduates -- across all disciplines, all faculties.

HDR's will want to see what's offered in the CDS because we do offer

training in a number of software areas like text analysis and

support in areas like GIS. I'm one of the Centre for Digital Scholarship support

officers. So we're a group with diverse roles and different interests and

expertise in a suite of different digital tools. We work with individual

students -- usually research students -- so HDR students, to help them with the different

things they're getting stuck with in terms of using

different software programs to utilise a different research method or to

analyse data. There's quite a diverse array of different

software programs too that can be quite specifically targeted to a particular

research objective. So my advice would be to have a good

discussion with your supervisor and work out what the objectives are and what

type of software programs they would suggest that you look at and then come and have

a chat with us and we can help you support your growth and learning

to use that particular software program. There is contact hours. There's always

somebody in the CDS between 11:00am and 2:00pm during the week so people can just

drop in if they have a query about a particular software program or a

problem they're having with a research method. If they've already had

discussions with their supervisor and they're clear about what they're not

understanding then we can help sometimes with those kind of queries. So what it

would involve would be sending an email to the CDS if you wanted to meet

outside of those hours and then somebody from the team would get in contact by

email -- probably the person who works closest with those particular types of

research methods or tools -- and then we just sit together and have a one-on-one and

we talk about what the problems are, try to nut through, and find a good solution.
