What is meant by Erasmus+? and the types of Education? - Duration: 5:14.

Salamu Aliku (Arabic Greeting) meaning "Hello All"

My name is Amr Abdelgayyed

I am a communications Engineer

Helwan University graduate

Currently I live in Spain

And I have a business consultancy start up in Spain

Today I will speak with you about something called "ERASMUS+"

But before I start speaking about it,

I will have to take you back in time around 20 to 30 years ago

So that we can understand, what is meant by the word ERASMUS or where did it come from

Firstof all, before the foundation of the European Union around the year 1960/1970

They set the learning process into 3 types

First type is called FORMAL EDUCATION

Second type is called INFORMAL EDUCATION

And the third type is called NON-FORMAL EDUCATION

They found out that who graduates from Formal Education

Be it a university or school

or if he did a PhD, masters or bachelors

His compliance will be approximately 40% according to labour market

So, what are the characteristics of Formal Educations?

1- You have a fixed curriculum for everyone

2- Fixed exam schedule for everyone

3- There is a fixed age within which the teacher is the only information source

and the fixed curriculum they are taught from

Therefore,

They tried to solve this problem

They figured out that they can let universities cooperate together

In different countries

For example, if the student studies tour guiding

or tourism

in Germany for instance

he can spend one semester abroad, out of his university

or even one full year, he can go study in Spain

Like this, he is gaining more experience

and expanding his horizon

and the most important of all is gaining a new language

learning Spanish there besides undergoing practical studies

The 2nd. type which they call informal education

& they also call Long Life Learning

you learn from personal & life experience

whether you are working in a company or got training on your own

or learnt a specific thing from YouTube

but there is no physical evidence or certificate

proving which level I reached!

So, one of the informal education features

is its flexibility....

you are simply self learning

I have several education sources

be it from a person or from training you receive

or you are learning online or from YouTube

or MOOC courses classes

but at the end, there will be no one to evaluate your level

The 3rd. education type

which the European Union named Non-Formal Education

We won't be able to find a letteral Arabic translation for it

but we can just call it Semi-Formal Education

& the reason it was designated

as it gathers up both the formal & informal education features

The formal one which has a scientific curriculum

and at the same time

gives you a certificate

On the other hand,

the flexibilty of the place from which we get the learning

the age flexibility

& there are no exams at the end

Therefore, there are certain channels

to undergo non-formal education

they realised there are 3 ways for that

First, On Job Training

which is learning by doing

you learn while doing the thing yourself

for example

people from 5 or 6 countries gathered to take a photography course

the trainer present there

or the teacher or the facilitator

this person starts to teach them explaining

the process of taking a photo & pressing which buttons

& how to hold the camera

& how to adjust the shooting frame

This is called on job training

At this time

he teaches the basics

that allows the trainee to hold any camera

and takes photos with it

But what if he wants to learn more?!

or learn more advanced tips

at that time,

comes what we call: Job Instruction Training

which states; If you need to learn more,

and get more knowledge,

there are certain resources

and specific books

and links

there are YouTube videos

Is the trainer my only learning channel?

No, You can also benefit from other trainees in the course

while each of them shares information, knowledge or personal experience

Accordingly, you learn from them indirectly

And this is called: Indirect Learning

Therefore, the European Union was searching

for programmes they can create to aid

Non-formal Education

that applies the all three features

1- On Job Training

where you learn by doing

2- Job Instruction Training

3- Indirect Learning

They came up with 2 programmes

1- European Voluntary Service

2- Youth or Cultural Exchange

which is a youth exchange or a cultural exchange project

And we will be speaking about both of them

in the coming episodes, in details

How to apply to them

And how we can get selected

And what are their benefits

See you soon again!

My Greetings for all!

Salamu Alikum (Bye Bye!)
