Twitter users are putting their brains and filters to work in the newest viral
photo trend, the Hobby Lobby Challenge. Once again proving that we will
literally do anything for the likes, Twitter users are flocking to the
preferred store of cosplayers and great aunts everywhere, Hobby Lobby, in order to
participate in this latest challenge. Welcome back to What's Trending, I'm

The Hobby Lobby Challenge began last month as part of photographer Kelsey
Maggart's submission for the "Ugly Location Challenge." The challenge has gone viral
inspiring many photographers and aspiring influencers to get in before we
all move on to whatever silly thing we do next.
Many folks have expanded their search for ways to enjoy retail employees by
visiting Walmart and Michael's since Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays. And if
Walmart's too bougie for you, check out this attempt at a "Dollar Tree
Challenge." Even former President Obama got it on this! Ha, see. But that's the
picture. You see what I did with the thing that was we were talking? Okay.
Obviously these kind of viral challenges are nothing new on the Internet, but
they're also not really new in real life either. Our great-grandparents used to
stuff themselves in phone booths, our grandparents got bucky ball naked for
no reason and called it "streaking," and now we're hiding in fake bushes for the
gram. We did it. Part of the allure of this challenge is that it is a way for
you to be able to take something cheap, and in this case free since none of
y'all paid for any of this, and make it look really fancy. At least that's kind
of how it seems. Now obviously some folks are putting in way more effort than
others. A lot of professional photographers have really risen to this
challenge, and then some people just stood by a fence. I'm not hating. Good job,
fence girl. Yeah if I was gonna do this I would just stand by a fence. That looks
way easier than like going into Walmart and possibly getting arrested because
I'm feeling up all their flowers. I've never been to a Hobby Lobby, I have been to
a Michael's. I don't go to Hobby Lobby because they don't let their women have birth control if they want it.
Yeah. They had that whole big thing a few years ago where they were like on our
health plan we're gonna decide whether or not you get birth control, and we have
decided that you don't and I just feel like retail employees already don't
really make that much for you to be telling them what they need to be doing with their bodies.
One of the great things about the Hobby Lobby Challenge is maybe it is kind of
subversive where it's like oh I'm gonna go in here and I'm gonna use your
resources, but I'm not gonna pay you for them. Because it really is just a bunch
of people like hiding in the fake flower section? I have yet to see one post of
anyone actually purchase anything. Anyway, I wish all of you the best of luck in
dodging security in your journey to 100,000 retweets. And if you do make it,
don't forget to drop that SoundCloud link. I'm sure everyone's really gonna
like that album you made. In Hobby Lobby... In Hobby Lobby like yeah. Ooh this is tight. Ooh what is
this? Garage Band? Let us know if you have any thoughts on the story down below.
