Auto news on Youtube Dec 29 2018

I'm doing this article on December 28 2018 and there's been an outage for a couple

days with CenturyLink and this got me thinking you know not so much about the

specifics of this particular outage even though it's pretty serious a lot of

people have been without internet which they rely upon to do a lot of financial

transactions a lot of businesses having problems 911 services emergency calls

not going through and they've been sending out beacon updates to

people's cell phones alerting them that 911 services are down in certain areas

and this is going all across the country happening in different parts different

pockets you can find information about it online if you want to look it up but

this has kind of got me thinking a little bit more about you know

consolidation of different industries and the way companies bounce around

between ownerships I've done some articles in the past about Ericsson and

SAIC specifically - Science Applications International Corporation

now known as Leidos as well that they have some interests with

telecommunications that allow these two companies specifically to gain a lot of

market share over the warehousing specifically of phone numbers and

your internet experience it's meaning to get domain website

address things of that nature things that I'm not quite as familiar with but

effectively merging things that are IT more Information Technology and

telecommunications together into the same systems and so these two companies

specifically had a lot of ownership over the merging of other companies and then

they wind up having part or different ownership and even sometimes these two

companies just bounce ownership back and forth of these other

warehousing companies that'll have a control over your phone number for

example so when you call somebody on the phone this will affect the way that that

call processes so meaning that a lot of times that the same people who

are providing the infrastructure on your cell phone call they're as well

also handling the processing of the phone numbers and so that being Ericsson

in this case and so I noticed that I did some articles about how that was a

little bit troubling that Telcordia had that kind of ownership and I

realized that even more has been transferred over to them over the last

couple years and so there's a debate at the FCC over whether or not you know

this last company Nuestar that had I guess they were doing it for over a

decade they had sole responsibility of that

warehousing and so I thought about this just as a person it used to be in the

telecommunications industry not that long ago about you know what a process

that must be to take all those services from one company to another I

mean that's a lot of problems that you're welcoming to transfer those

services and these are things that law enforcement relied upon to do wiretaps

and things like that this is this is something that's very potentially

disruptive so if you're thinking about moving that service even though I

understand competition is important like you would really want it to be for like

a really serious reason so I would think that there must have been at least where

I would hope that there would have been some reason why that they would have

wanted to do that aside from just competition even though that's that in

and of itself I think is healthy you definitely you definitely want to have

you know competition with services but that's in particular this is one of the

reasons why I think these things need a more education and debate is because

some of these things really should be more of a nationalized type service

instead of it being going back and forth between different companies this way

especially when it's our phone numbers and our internet experience and things

like that where we get our information from because increasingly you're gonna

be doing your voting you're going to be doing your things that are very your

most well you're already probably doing a lot of your very most what you want to

call it sensitive financial transactions and things like that online so who do

you trust with these things is extremely important and the fact that certain

places that don't have the best rather companies that don't have the best

history ethics wise are in control these things I think is a little bit troubling

and I'm just saying that as we're looking into the CenturyLink issue

especially if you're the FCC and you're reformer at the FCC I would hope that

you're going to take a little step beyond about who potentially might be

affecting service as a CenturyLink relies upon as well because this is such

a broad outage and it affected so many different types of services that you

really have to kind of look like beyond just this fiber optic provider of these

large links they go countrywide you know like there must be something that they

link to I would think they potentially could have caused this problem too

- I'm telling you this is somebody who's worked at a wireless company when our

cell towers at the time were connected via certain like fiber-optic links or

telecommunication links from local telecommunications companies so a lot of

times even though yeah you're using wireless technology right well that got

to get you wirelessly from the cell phone to the tower but once you are in the base

station something has to get you back to a central office a lot of times that's a

relied upon relationship with these fiber optic companies like CenturyLink

is one of them they do a lot of business with the wireless companies to provide

those backhauling so sometimes when they have an outage it's going to affect the

wireless carriers as well so that can take down a lot of cell towers

simultaneously and the point is is that I just thought it was a little bit weird

that there wouldn't be more redundancy you know and more reasoning behind that

are more immediate explanations but again I'm thinking there's not more

of an immediate explanation because there may be a reason external from

CenturyLink as to why it happened it's the same reason why a lot of times when

you're at the wireless company it's like you don't want to be quick especially

when the press is involved to say like no they did it or they did it or we did

it they don't want to do that they want to just make sure that they have all

their C-Y-A as it's called Cover Your Ass done you know to make sure that they

have to make sure that they're not the problem as to why that technically why

it happened so that's probably what a lot of they're doing the first 24 hours

there's all these different companies are going is it us is it us and then

once they determine it's not them then they're making sure they've called in

all their trouble tickets and are following up with the other companies

and so there's probably still some of that going on right here with this

particular problem especially knowing how things are getting more centralized

changes have been made the last two or three years between you know this

company Neustar that used to manage a lot of the phone numbers specifically

that did manage a lot of 9-1-1 services so this could be in that same territory

that Telcordia AKA iConectiv which is a subsidiary of Ericsson okay so the

reason why I'm a little bit bothered by that and I've done articles that I'll put in

here and I've talked about them before it's just that they just have a bad

track record historically for bribery extortion blackmail and that type of

thing or accusations of it there's been a lot of mainstream press articles on

this there was the whole controversy surrounding them

paying Bill Clinton $750,000 for a speech I think was maybe 45 minutes and

then within about I think a week or two when Hillary Clinton was at the State

Department she cleared I guess the way for Ericsson to do some business in

Iran and so you know this is why we're having these conversations - we're not having them enough

I'm personally trying to get the conversations going more with people who

I would hope would be reformers at the FCC to say like hey

have you really examined why that's troubling why it's bothersome to some

people that we have these weird relationships that are kind of going on

between these multinational companies that are based out of sometimes Sweden

or Norway or sorry, not Norway, but in Finland - sorry sorry people from Norway I mean Finland

I'm talking about Nokia they're in Finland I apologize but uh and then

Ericsson's based out of Sweden so there's these debates between West

versus East right a lot of times because you have Chinese companies like Huawei

and ZTE that are competing for American business but are being kind of ousted

because of concerns about whether or not it's secure to have Chinese companies

involved with American telecommunications all I would hope is

that if we're going to make those kind of evaluations on our friends in China

that we would at least make that same type of evaluation on people in Sweden

because there is a little bit of bias there I do understand that the United

States has a different relationship with Sweden than they do China but given the

relationship that Ericsson seems to have had with a lot of different come you

know countries and different groups historically I don't think it's really

outside the realm of- rather, I do think it's proper to question if we're

evaluating that appropriately I also don't want to rule out that there

is Samsung out of South Korea that offers infrastructure equipment so full

disclosure I am aware of them just because I've done work around them

before and they're within their groups and things like that so I'm familiar

with how they operate too it's just that they haven't come up as much within

these news stories but yeah they're another competitor for these types of

things as well is Samsung so but really when you think about it I can only think

of about five companies really as far as far as like where the the large

companies are that for this type of infrastructure

equipment for the wireless industry so when you make a cell phone call you know

who you trust with that is basically the you know country wise I'm talking about

Sweden Finland and two in Kor- excuse me, two in China and then large

ones I should say and then you have the Samsung in South Korea so it's like you

know really when you're talking about where you're gonna trust with your

telecommunications it's like you have to evaluate all these people fairly and

appropriately that's all I'm trying to explain here and you know you really do

have to look at everybody's history all together to see how they've been

handling these things so and I'm just you know talking about FCC as far as

people that are trying to do things to maybe reform and things like that all I

can tell you is that when I was looking into the documentation about how we've

been handling the thing involving the number portability and how the

numbers are warehoused in the United States and that whole dynamic between the

debate between Neustar and Telcordia which is now Iconnectiv which is a

subsidiary of Ericsson out of Sweden so that's a lot of consolidated power now that we

have with Ericsson in our country we've trusted basically this company with tons

and tons of cell towers here and that's great if that's a relationship that's

working for the United States and you trust it that's fine okay but you know

we need to really look into the relationship what what kind of

investigative bodies do we have within the FCC to make sure everything's

working for the consumer for the United States government I feel like there's a

disconnect between what's secure for our military for our government for our

population and what's actually occurring at the FCC and then when I start looking

at how these decisions are made I just see that it's populated mostly by

industry insiders and people that are the board members of very you know or

tech you know VPS and things like that of various companies vice presidents as

or presidents or board members of major corporations or regional corporations in

the telecommunications industry and in my research of especially ones that are

regional in nature I'll find that they're owned by the same families you

know over and over again just using different family members or different

names of you know they marry into a family and the

they buy another company but you're always almost dealing with the same

group of people sometimes in an entire state where they owned almost the entire

cluster so it's just um I feel like this consolidation is not really being

addressed appropriately it's like this allows a group of people at the FCC now

when they go to investigate the CenturyLink issue are really going to

understand what the larger problem is or is it going to be easy for them to kind

of go like what we don't want people to know what happened let's all just you

know give us a nice clean explanation and walk away from it you know that's

what I'm wondering you know so I'm just saying I hope that you will look into

those relationships a little bit better I have faith that the FCC will be on the

right track to do that you know if not now at some point you know I just kind

of believe that there's people out there that can kind of see that there's some

issues going on right now that require a little bit more evaluation and so I

would just say is that even though I'm a little bit of an unconventional person

and perhaps you know not every way that I do jives with the way that the federal

government likes everything to be and things like that if you want to consult

with me on things I'd be happy to talk to anybody from that group I just think

that you have some issues and you know you gotta be honest with you I did look

at one of the decision documents and I found a name that I recognized and it

was a person that frankly I'm just gonna be straight up with you I'm not gonna

say their name out loud here obviously but yeah I know I recognized their name

and I knew them to be a person that is not ethical they have issues so that

bothered me that I saw that they're a person that's on the FCC board and is

entrusted with some of these decisions so I think that that's worth mentioning

so you know I'm not telling you that I'm a person that should be on there I'm not

sure I want to I don't really like going over the minutiae of telecommunications

industry jargon I really don't like it at all

but as a person that used to be in the industry and is not really subjected to

any of their issues or anything like that meaning my employment opportunities

you obviously no longer revolve around them and things like that so I don't you

know I don't really mind talking about these things from an industry

perspective as a person that used to be in it to tell you kind of like

yeah I don't know I feel like there's something that might be a little bit

larger going on with this and it's worth looking into so I hope people will

you know also realize there's also the potential that maybe that part has been

recognized by certain people within the government the military and they may be

doing some tests to potentially soft cut or hard cut between an old system to a

newer system like as a backup or to have some redundancy to it I don't know you

know it may have been a test to do something like that and some problems

happened with it but what I do know is that we've trusted I don't know a very

small number of group groups to do a lot of critical infrastructure with our

communications and Internet experience and I've been a little bit concerned

about the ethics of companies like SAIC and Ericsson personally and just knowing

how much of our internet experience and our telecommunications our wireless

experience our phone numbers experience pretty much everything we do every day

is affected by these two companies it kind of bothers me that they have so

many issues of ethics and I'll put those articles and links to them inside the

description here so you can read them but you know I just think that this is

an opportunity to take advantage to like you know become more familiar with how

decisions are made at the FCC and I'll lead you link to some documents that

I've been reading and everything like that so that you can kind of see what

I'm talking about we had these clips here inside this

Self Checkout [Payday 2] - Duration: 6:27.

For today,

we'll look at one of the possible "worthy" achievements,

Self Checkout, from the Mallcrasher heist.

As usual, I'll be doing it solo with base game weapons only.

Let's start with the requirements.

As per the achievement description,

we have to escape within 3 minutes, but let's break it down further.

The escape helicopter, takes 2 minutes to spawn on Overkill and below,

otherwise it's 5 minutes on Mayhem and above,

which is impossible for the achievement.

Most would try to do it on the lowest possible difficulty,

so we'll stick with Normal.

And when the helicopter shows up,

it takes another 25 seconds to land before spawning the escape box,

which on its own, has a 2 second delayed activation.

So all in all, the magic number we're looking for is 33.

We have to finish the 50 thousand dollar objective, latest by 33 seconds game time,

then be at the escape zone when it's available,

which is in the middle of the walkway closest to the escalators or gym.

33 seconds is pretty tight for a solo player but still manageable.

Since we're going for time, we would want to hit targets of high value.

And for that, I looked through Jower's

"What's worth the most in Mallcrasher" guide

which was created in 2014 and still relevant today.

After looking through the guide, this is the route I chose.

Right at the start, the two signs, the shield

and every glass at the front and side are worth 500 each, for a total of 13 thousand.

Explosives have had their radius reduced and won't be able to cover everything,

so instead I'll bring the Microgun along with Lock N' Load (basic) to run and gun,

and give the mall entrance a quick spray, before moving up the escalators.

Once up the escalators, I'll throw a grenade right into the middle of the shoe store,

to try to get as much of the 5 and a half thousand worth.

Then again up the escalator to the wine store, with another grenade for about 3 thousand.

The wine store is actually worth a lot more,

but I'll explain the funky logic behind it later.

As I move to the next target,

we'll see that I'm sweeping through the store windows as much as possible

because these big windows are worth 800 each.

Just that sweep alone is worth at least 5 thousand.

Then the old favourite, the Falcogini.

That's worth over 14 thousand with a well placed grenade.

And lastly, the skylights, which are also 800 each,

close to 10 thousand if we get them all.

For me, that's enough to hit the 50 thousand

so I'll just sit and idle at the escape location until the helicopter arrives.

There are also other interesting high value targets

but I won't cover them here so check out Jower's guide for more.

Again, as per the Mallcrasher guide,

the wine store actually has a total possible value of 25 thousand,

compared to the 3 thousand I mentioned earlier.

However, a logic in the mission scripts only counts at most 10 bottles every half second,

which is why using a grenade has so little value, compared to bullets or melee.

Of course, since this achievement is going for time

we don't really have much of a choice.

Same for the Pear store, the 4 racks of boxed headphones on the wall,

adds only a maximum of 5 headphones per half second.

Just like the wine store, using a grenade gives way less,

a pitiful amount of over a thousand,

compared to destroying it a bunch at a time, for a total of 16 thousand.

And yup, that's it for this video.

Solo is manageable but definitely easier with more players,

so ask some friends to help out

Self Mapping Using The PAUL Method - Duration: 12:10.

welcome to corporals corner today we're going to discuss self mapping using the

pawl method so stick around

a few months ago we filmed a three-part series on land navigation where we took

it from beginning compass reading brought in some maps and they finally

finished off walking in an actual land navigation course so I thought today why

not elaborate on those skills and talk about

self mapping or finding yourself using the pawl method

now what is Paul Paul stands for A+ asmath uniform layout it is simply one

of many control measures that you can put in place to help you figure a

straight line azimuth and distance back to your camp without having to stop and

backtrack by shooting reverse Asmus to every single previous point

Before we jump into the Paul method you're gonna want to grab a few items

first you're gonna want a good compass this is a Suunto mc2 baseplate compass

along with Ranger beads or pacing beads next you're going to grab two mechanical

pencils and a good notebook both of these are made by right in the

rain next you're gonna want some cordage without the paracord

or bank line now all these items I've just shown you are available on my

amazon influencer page

and last but not least you need a good understand that basic compass use along

with how to perform a pace count so if you don't understand those concepts what

I'll do is I'll go ahead I'll throw up a YouTube card click on that icon it will

take you to my compass playlist check out those videos then come back here and

give it a shot now if you already understand those concepts let's go ahead

and get to it

okay so how does this work in order for this to be successful you have to have a

solid route that contains admits to specific locations along with accurate

pace counts to those locations so let's go ahead and set up a fictitious

scenario we were out scouting for the day

looking for resources let's go ahead and say that this stake right here with a

tape on it represents our base camp or our vehicle we'll drive that in the

ground right there and that would be our starting point

let's go ahead and say that we walked on a bearing or azimuth of 200 degrees for

200 meters to our first point we're off Scout in the area place my compass on

there rotate it until that needle is in the dog house or the Reds in the shed

there's 200 meters let's go ahead and say the length of this notebook

represents 200 meters take my next stake

drive that bad boy in right there

take your cordage pull it tight wrap it around do it once or twice

now let's come back and double-check

200 agree it's good to go now let's say from here we turned and we walked on a

Berrien or asmath you rotate that muscle ring of 240 degrees and we walked it

again for no at 200 meters

we're then going to go ahead and walk

let's go with 300 degrees for 200 meters

and now at this point we notice with some watered down here we're not gonna

head

thirty degrees let's say for a hundred meters so if that length is two hundred

half is 100

we got our water now from here we want to go ahead and turn let's say to

let's go with 320 degrees

for another 200 meters

now you can see the route that you just walked is unfolding right here in front

of you at this point right here we're done we're getting tired we want to head

back to our base camp like I mentioned before the beauty of the pawl method it

allows you to figure a straight line asmath along with distance back to your

camp without having to backtrack by reverse azimuth to every single one of

these previous points so from here all we're gonna do I'm gonna wrap my base

camp make sure it's tight the tighter you can get this the more accurate is

going to be wrap to the outside

now take my compass lay it next to that line with that needle on doghouse or the

red in the shed

and according to this I can walk Ebury nor azmuth of 100 degrees for

approximately 2 4 500 meters and this same method actually works between

points as well let's say a point number 4 so 1 2 3 4 I realized oh I don't have

my glasses but I do remember having them at point number 1 oh hell no I guarantee

we're going back with the shades all you gotta do is wrap point number 4 in the

direction straight line distance to point number 1

wrap it around pull it tight

put the compass base next to that string or that cordage rotate that bezel ring

looking at approximately 110 degrees for about 375 meters back to point number

one and I can retreat my glasses welcome back the Paul method of self mapping is

outstanding just remember you have to record your route as you walk it keeping

accurate pace counts and Asmus let's talk about these stakes this was a six

foot fiberglass adalah from Home Depot all idea was cutting down to one foot

pieces and sharpen them but truth be told you can walk around pick up sticks

off the ground sharpen them drive them in and you'll achieve the same goal I'd

Hey awesome ones. Heather here and I have a question for you. Do you really

schedule the me time for yourself? I know for a fact that I used to just run

myself ragged and hardly ever take time for myself. No longer. Now I schedule

it and I'm gonna share that with you in just a few seconds.

So you're probably thinking to yourself is this a beauty video? I actually

think it is, because you know those stressful days and the days where you're

just like falling into bed and then maybe you've done so much and there's so

much anxiety that you're not even sleeping and you're wondering where

those bags go into my eyes and and how come I'm getting more wrinkles. I

think one of the main things is you're just not looking after yourself. You're

not taking the time, the so called 'me time' to really take care of of you. I

would like to thank Carol. She's a longtime subscriber to our channel and

she reminded me a few weeks ago about how important it is to have me time. And

I went in my mind.....I'm gonna do a video on that one of these days. So yep it is kind

of a beauty video. So are you a person that really just tries to be a

superwoman. You know what I mean. Like I was definitely that person. I was

suffering from migraines. I was definitely....my adrenaline supply

was being depleted. I was... I had four kids all under the age of nine

to look after and I said well I can do the grocery shopping, I can make the

dinners, I did all the laundry for all six of us uh you know even just thinking

about all those gives me a headache. And it...I think it has to do with the Susie

homemaker mentality. Do you remember taking home ecc in school like I do? And

they taught us how to cook and how to clean and how to...hey I was even sewing

on the buttons and being the seamstress for the family. And then one day it all

came crashing down. It wasn't bad enough that I was getting all those

migraines and if you haven't ever had a migraine I I can't even begin to tell

you how painful they are and mine would last for days.

And it wasn't even about that. I think...I don't know...I

would serve dinner for everybody and one of the kids said...I don't like that and I

just went....I said...I went up to Bill and I said you know what Bill I'm

leaving for a while and I walked out the door. It was

unbelievable that I, with four kids would do that and I think Bill thought I was

just gonna go for a walk, but I went to the city and on the way...I had to take a

train to the city and on the way to the city I just said to myself I'm going

back into modeling. I can't stand these...I mean I was really really hurting with it.

I didn't even have a migraine that day but they had been going on for years

and I went I'm gonna go back into modeling and I can't take this anymore

and I got to the city. So I get to the city and I went to take some money out

of the machine..... this shows you how the universe or God

or whatever you want to call it works, because I had to take some money out I

thought I better take some cash. I put in my card to take out some cash and the

machine literally...it didn't eat my card but it basically said that I didn't even

have a balance left and I was on the phone....my battery was dying...to the bank.

I'm trying to figure out what had just happened and I just think it was fate. So

and I said Bill I'm at the city. I don't

know what's happened. I've been on hold foreve,r my phone is dying and Bill said

stay there he picked one of the restaurants that he knew I loved right

around the area and he got a sitter. He got on the train and away he went. And

well he was on his way. I'm getting really honest with you guys, but I'm sure

that maybe these things happen to you and you're just not acknowledging them

and you're not making the me time. Anyway back to the story. As I was

waiting for like two hours for him in this restaurant I started writing down

everything.......... and I had a long list of....you guys don't

do this and when he showed up he you know he sort of said talk to me. I

read off the list and then when I was finished reading on the lit off the list

I I went this isn't your fault. Nothing here is your fault. So I'm getting kind of

teary eyed because it was so true. It was all my fault. I was the person who

never delegated. I was the person that thought that I would could do it all. I

mean I was also the second breadwinner. I was not a Susie homemaker. I was working

and you know it was one of those things where I said okay you know what I'm

coming back with you. I know I had credit cards. I don't know why I didn't even

use those but I just I don't know. I just knew that that was a sign that I had to

see him again and so I went home and I changed everything even though my girls

were nine...nine ish. I taught them how to do their own laundry...they didn't like

that very much but Bill would come with me to do the grocery shopping and

Bill you still do that right? Oh yeah. All the time he comes grocery shopping.

As a matter of fact just the other day we had two full carts of grocery

shopping because the kids are coming home to see us. But everything changed

and and then I wanted to do some changing about myself. So I really

started thinking you know what can I do for me and then I thought every night

I'm going to have a long bath and I made this announcement to everybody.

I said...fortunately there was more than one bathroom in the house. I said look every night I'm

taking a bath. I'm going to be in there and I don't want anybody knocking on the

door or I lost something or this or that.... I said I'm gonna take a long bath and I

said unless the house is burning down nobody is allowed to bug me and you know

they were really good. And I think they saw a different kind of

mom around here with the delegations and everyone went, oh yeah let's let her

have her time there. So cue the lavender bath, bubble bath and the soft music and

I even put some candles in there and it was just...well it still is...every night I

have a bath and it's just so divine and I just...oh I just sort of let the

world just be out there somewhere and I just go into my little cocoon. Now you

notice over here that I have one of those Himalayan salt lamps and I also

have one of those diffusers...that just depending on my mood sometimes you know

I'll have kind of a lavender scent going or right now it's called immune. I'm

feeling a little cold coming on so this eucalyptus and that sort of thing but at

night I'm generally saying my prayers having the bath. But it's the mornings,

it's the mornings when I'm waking up that are the really true amazing time

for me and I'm just gonna share it with you. I do have the most amazing husband

and we've been together now since we met what 21 years ago Bill and you know

we've been raising four kids and all the kids are out of the house now and I

guess you can call us empty nesters and what Bill does every morning to wake me

up he brings me an amazing French pressed coffee. Puts it beside my bed.

That's my alarm...can you believe it. I'm so lucky and again I I work quite a bit

and I'm still a second breadwinner but that's how I wake up in the morning and Bill

knows it's kind of like the bath time thing. He just knows there's the coffee

Heather. Allow me to have my time and I don't get

migraines anymore folks, so there you go. I learned that you know I'm just gonna I

do this...I don't know what it does but it kind of just moves everything around and

sometimes when I'm doing this on my head I can almost hear that cracking and that

sort of thing. I do a lot of stretches and then I just...I guess you can call it

meditating. I just...it's not an ommmm thing. I just listen. I listen and hear if

there's any inspiration. A lot of the videos that you see are I've got a piece

of paper beside my bed and my oh my gosh I think I'm gonna write about that and I

think I can do a video about that and I'm gonna write a script about it and

and make sure that that gets on for the awesome over 50 people and it's just

it's also a time for gratitude. I really sit back before I get up and I

think about all the things that I'm so fortunate for and well maybe not all of

them I mean that would take a day and a half but especially some of the recent

things and and then after I've done all my stretches and everything I'm ready to

hit the day. And let me tell you something if I miss this time in the

morning I'm just not myself. I'm just absolutely not. So no matter what time

that is I think one of the big messages here is it might be a different time of

day for you but just have... this is my little serenity area right here at the corner

of my bed and you know make sure you've got a little space for yourself and

maybe some special things that that mean a lot to you and take that moment to

really listen, to be still...to kind of get in touch with the universe and get your

attitude of gratitude. So you know there's something else that happens at

this time as well and I kind of touched on it a little bit. It's it's the

creative juices start coming out and the inspiration and you might find in this

quiet still time that you have that that you say... you know what...like I always

could sing or I always was really really good in helping people and and you might

find your......I don't want to use the word true calling because it doesn't have to

be that grand. It could be just something where you know what...I think I'm gonna

volunteer and and you're fulfilling something. It's a passion. It's a purpose

inside of you and for me and and Bill - we found Awesome Over 50 and the idea is

let's just let people know that we really believe that the next 40 years or

50 years or however long it's going to be....can be absolutely awesome. It's not

the end of your life it's the beginning of of each day and and that's what we

came across and I think a lot of it was just being still and and and listening.

And another thing that Bill and I do and this is so important....we make a fun list.

Once a year we make a fun list it's....and I'll put the link to the

fun list up there for you....for all the seasons,

so in the winter we might be saying hey you know let's go skiing or in the

springtime let's go see a concert. You know we went and saw last year...right

Bill....the Eagles and Bon Jovi and well let me just think of some of the things

we did last year. We went to California and we just did so many

things and and took our four kids and their boyfriends and girlfriends and had

this amazing dinner all together and these are things that we plan. We plan

for fun and I think it's a great idea that part of your me time is also fun

time. And don't forget to have some fun, have a few laughs. So Bill, behind the

camera there, is also reminding me that a lot of them have $0 beside them. They

don't cost us a thing. We also put on...go bike riding three times in the

summertime, go to, go play some cribbage and and those are the types of things

that don't...go hiking there's some great parks around where we live and I just

sort of pack a lunch and away we go. So yeah...you don't have to....it can

still be a fun list on a budget but you're still having fun. So...so getting

back to this beauty video....yeah I really do think it's a beauty video. I think

that my skin is softer. I think that you know yeah I still have wrinkles and

everything but there's a sparkle behind my eyes because I'm looking after myself

and I really truly believe that if you're just trying to be that superwoman

- I don't know for your boss for your kids for your husband for those

friends that you feel you have to live up to. I'm just gonna say take a step

back. Take a step back and just take some time for yourself and I think it's

really really important because after all if you're trying to be all that for

your family especially and your husband and everybody else...you're probably not

the happiest or the healthiest and you gotta be happy. So talking about being

happy, another thing I did was I got a dog. Didn't I Hurricane? I got a dog with

lots and lots of kisses in him and this little guy...I don't know...he just really

brings down my blood pressure. And one of the reasons Bill and I didn't have a dog

you know for the longest time was Bill was allergic to dogs and this was a guy

...you've got hair. He's a Yorkie and for some reason Bill's not allergic to him at all

and Bill you absolutely love this guy. Oh yeah. He walks him three times a day

and we all love our little hurricane and I know a lot of you out there you love

them too. So you know I think this was one of my most important videos because

it's it's a message to just take care of yourself and I really care about

everybody who's you know in this community of ours. So I know you do too.

I just I just think it's important that you stop and evaluate.....

really what you're doing to yourself especially if you're over 50 and start

taking care. And talking about all those wonderful people, all you subscribers,

these simple 4 questions will massively change how you feel about yourself for

the better so let's get into it

that I've learned in my life questions are the most powerful way of controlling

your focus and getting yourself to focus on something that you want to focus on

now why would you want to control your focus because what you focus on you

experience and questions are the easiest way to trick your mind into getting

focused on a specific topic because if you ask yourself the question it's

proven that the mind cannot resist answering it at least subconsciously or

of course even consciously bottom-line what you focus on you experience and

what you experience creates a state in yourself and that could be a state of

confidence or a complete state of disarray or unhappiness or whatever it

is that you don't want to feel okay so let's focus on some questions that get

you to focus on things that put you into a great state for example a state of

confidence the state of self-esteem and a state of being pleased with yourself

question number one what am i grateful for what am i grateful for is a

fantastic question in any situation in life whether you're frustrated unhappy

unconfident or you you you run out of self esteem or something bad has

happened it resets you with a focus on what you have what you are already happy

with and it creates confidence and self-esteem so when you use this

question all you have to do is ask yourself the question what am i grateful

for set your timer as I always say for 5 or 10 minutes however much time you have

and you just brainstorm ideally out loud what you're grateful for some people

prefer to write things down some people prefer to say it out loud some people

prefer to say it in their head but the key thing is to stay focused on that

question what am i grateful for and you're just brainstorming you're not

censoring yourself at that point you're not stopping yourself oh is this the

right thing to be grateful for the wrong thing to be grateful for you just focus

on brainstorming anything that comes into your mind that you're grateful for

you say it out loud or you write it down or whatever you do in that process okay

they all work the key thing is to focus on answering the question in as many

ways and that's deep away as you possibly can for a limited amount of

time or for as much as you can and then you will notice a shift in your state

towards more confidence and more self-esteem now that's probably the most

commonly used question to put yourself into a better state but here's my second

question okay what am I good at this is one of my favorite questions what am I

good at and then you do the same thing you brainstorm and then all of a sudden

you start to focus on your strengths and when you start to focus on your

strengths no matter how City they are if you're good at making omelets it doesn't

matter if you're good at doing free kicks when you play football it doesn't

matter I mean just list everything that you're good at and it doesn't matter

what it is just focus on stuff that you're good at and you'll notice it will

shift your state after a while and if it doesn't straightaway do it just keep

going it's also very pleasant and it makes you feel good because it creates

self-esteem and confidence so focus on question number two what am I good at

and just brainstorm around that for five or ten minutes

the third question what do I love about myself now for some people this is

incredibly hard I understand and it may seem weird or strange or just really odd

but it's just a question and you let yourself answer so you brainstorm around

that what do I love about myself and if you like I don't love anything about

myself then ask yourself what could I love about myself and just brainstorm

just do it that's the most important thing don't just think oh this is

city or whatever is not gonna work you have to just do it okay if you don't do

it it doesn't work for sure so if this seems weird you need it even more and

then just focus on things that you could love about yourself and it takes some

practice for some people if love is too strong a word start with like and then

build up to love and notice how much better you feel and of course if you do

this every day you will notice a real incremental

impact now the last one maybe will surprise you the most and it also took

me the longest to understand because most people get this wrong in their

minds and they see themselves very much in competition with other people but

here's the question what do I love about other people or

what do I love about others and if love is too strong a word again use like and

if like is too strong a word use appreciate and if that's too strong

use could appreciate okay and then you just go for it now why does this make

you more confident and develop more self-esteem when you focus on what you

love about other people or appreciate or like about them what you start to notice

is that your barriers are coming down the fears going away because you

starting to not focus on aspects of them that you are afraid of or that you don't

like which is almost the same thing and but the action you start to focus on

things that you appreciate about them it gets you to focus on the connection you

have with other people and that actually builds self-esteem and confidence

because you see other people as partners as easier to deal with rather than as

frightening or scary or unpleasant to handle and this is just to do with what

aspects of them you focus on okay so it's as simple as that what do I love

about other people if you find it difficult say what could I love about

other people or like or appreciate and you will notice that it will make you

feel different it will make you more confident around people and will give

you more self-esteem just try it out if you don't believe me right now use these

four questions do one five-minute session on the first two one five-minute

session on the second the third and the fourth and see how you feel after 20

I promise you that if your confidence was at three out of ten beforehand your

level of self-esteem and confidence will have gone up in some way now for some

people this might be massive at that point and then you just need to repeat

and basically reinstate that state and it will stick with you for longer and

longer every time and for some people it will just incrementally go up and for

some people will go up really quickly because what you focus on you experience

and that's at the heart of this and with questions you get yourself to focus on

what you want to focus on so let's be smart about this what am i grateful for

what am I good at what do I love about myself what do I love about other people

dismiss it because you think it's not going to work and the most important

thing if you want to start really making big changes in your life and you really

want to become more confident develop more self-esteem especially also when it

HEART to HEART: Breast Self-Exams & Mammograms - Duration: 7:09.

Hi everyone!

My name is Wajihah, I'm a peer health educator with HEART, and I'm here today to talk about

breast self-exams & mammograms.

Although there are important healthy habits that can greatly reduce the risk of cancer,

random genetic mutations can still play a significant role in the development of breast

cancer – meaning: anyone is at risk.

About 1 in 8 women will get a form of breast cancer at some point in life, and the rate

for men is about 1 in 1,000.

Getting to know one's own personal breast anatomy can help with earlier cancer detection

and prevention.

This is called "breast self awareness," for which the first step is knowing some anatomy.

Breast tissue is located on top of the muscles of the chest wall.

They contain fat and connective tissue that extends from the clavicle to the middle of

the rib cage.

The breast is composed of lymph nodes which are responsible for collecting bacteria, cancer

cells and other unhealthy material.

Lymph nodes are located throughout the breast, under your arms, above your collarbones and

other parts of your body.

The female breast differs than male breasts because they are also made up of lobules,

which contain milk-producing glands, and ducts that transport milk to the nipple when stimulated

to do so.

Breast cancer most commonly develops in the lobules, glands, ducts of the breast and can

be particularly dangerous if it develops in the lymph nodes.

Tumors can cause changes in the appearance of one's breast, which is why self-examinations

can be helpful.

A breast self-examination (BSE) is a technique which allows an individual to examine their

breast tissue for any physical or visual changes.

It's an early detection method for breast cancer.

Anyone with breasts should perform a BSE at least once a month beginning at age 20.

They should be used in conjunction with regular physicals and mammography screenings.

The American Cancer Society considers the BSE an "optional" tool, but is still highly

recommended by health care providers because about 20% of the time, breast cancers are

found by physical examination rather than by mammography.

Since most people don't start getting routine mammograms until around the age of 40, BSEs

can lead to early detection of cancer.

A commonly recommended way to do this is to start by looking at your breasts in a mirror

with your shoulders straight and arms on your hips, and notice if your breasts are their

usual shape/shape/color.

Look out for changes such as: Dimpling, puckering, or bulging of the skin,

A change in the nipple position or an inverted nipple

Redness, soreness, rash or swelling Any signs of fluid coming out of the nipple

Raise your arms to see if they move up symmetrically and look for the same changes.

Then, while putting one hand behind your head, you can use the other hand to apply a smooth

touch with your first few finger-pads, use a small circular motion.

It's key to follow a pattern to ensure that you're covering the entire breast, from

top to bottom, side to side – from your collarbone to the top of your abdomen, and

from you armpit to your cleavage.

You can move from top to bottom, or side to side, or go in a circle.

Apply light, medium, and firm pressure to feel the tissue from the front to the back

of your breasts

- you can do this step in the shower too! – water and soap make it easy for your fingers

to glide over the skin.

Next, feel your breasts while lying down.

Place a towel or pillow under your right shoulder and use your right hand to feel your left

breast the same way you did earlier, Finally, repeat on the other side.

There's no incorrect way to do a BSE – it's just important that you feel your entire breast

while applying pressure.

Remember that around your period, there can be slight breast changes.

you could feel a soft lump or two due to swelling And - If you do find a lump or notice something

unusual, don't panic, as about 80% of lumps found are benign, or not cancerous.

BUT do see your provider for further evaluation It's best to do your BSE at the end of your

monthly period when your breasts aren't super sensitive or tender.

Ideally it's best to pick one day of the month that you'll do your monthly BSE, and

stick to it.

The good news is that there's been a 40% decline in breast cancer death rates!

This is due to the ability to treat the disease and because people are feeling more and more

empowered to go to their providers when they notice something unusual!

If you do notice something abnormal, the next step may be that you need to get a mammogram

done.

Mammograms are a radiographic examination of the breast tissue to detect the presence

of breast disease.

It's done on annual basis for women older than 40 years, or anyone that has any kind

of abnormal breast health symptoms.

This screening should be accompanied by a manual examination of the breast tissue by

a provider called a "clinical breast exam"

The ACS suggests that : women ages 40-44 should have the choice to

start mammograms if they so wish women ages 45-54 should get mammograms every

year women 55 and older should switch to mammograms

every 2 years or annually

When getting a mammogram, you can expect to be asked to undress from above the waist.

The technologist will then position your breasts.

The breast is compressed between two plates of the imagine machine for a few seconds both

horizontally and vertically while a x-ray image is taken from different views.

The compression of the breasts may be uncomfortable, and it's important to tell the technician

if it hurts.

The mammography technologist should be able to image all breast shapes and size, small

or large!

For women with large breasts, breasts with dense tissue and breast implants, more pictures

may be required.

Some things to consider before your mammogram are that it might be best to schedule your

appointment when your breasts will not be tender

to wear something where you can just take your top off, rather than fully undress.

to make sure your breasts and underarms are clean & Avoid deodorant.

and to avoid coffee the day of your mammogram, as it can make your breasts more sensitive.

Also, make sure you talk with your provider about when you can expect to receive the results.

There's the myth that the size of a woman's breasts affects her risk of breast cancer,

but this is false since breast cancer develops in the cells of the lobules or ducts as we

discussed earlier.

What CAN affect one's risk is breast density, when breasts have more of these lobules and/or

duct tissues.

This is a genetic characteristic, and NOT relate d to breast size.

Women with more than 75% dense breast tissue are at about 4-6 times greater risk of breast

cancer.

It's also harder to detect breast cancer in dense breasts using a mammogram because

the tissues can resemble tumors.

In this case, more testing would be required.

Male breasts are very similar to female breasts, though they can have more fatty tissue than

connective tissue because they're producing less estrogen.

But one is they're exposed to estrogen in the form of medications or drugs they're taking,

they may be more at risk for developing breast cancer.

A survey of 240 Muslim women found that 37 percent had not gotten a mammogram in the

previous two years.

In another study, a third of the participants had never even been screened for breast cancer.

Cultural values, such as modesty concerns, and religious beliefs can be a barrier to

getting mammograms.

Many health clinics have female technicians on staff that can be requested for your comfort.

Also, many religious leaders agree that it is permissible to receive care from male medical

professionals when there aren't any other options.

There's also the belief that God decides who gets disease and illness, but it is also

our religious responsibility to also take care of our body and get cancer screenings

if we have the tools available to us.
