Solo Trip to Japan: Found my Spirit Animal in Akihabara? | Japaniku episode 5 (Ikutree) - Duration: 16:59.
Good morning everybody! I'm in Akihabara today.
And I just turned on my camera for the first time and it said memory card error
And I was like 'noooo'
I know I have a spare but if I can avoid things like that, it would be great.
So last night for the first night I actually fully slept. Either I was exhausted
or I finally got over my jetlag. I know I still look pretty tired
I'll probably have these until I get back to Belgium and get back to a normal rythm
Or have a few good nights at the Airbnb, I don't know
Sleeping in a room with a bunch of other people it's not as quiet as could be.
So why am I vlogging in this deserted area?
Well I just dropped off my backpack at my capsule hotel for tonight where I'm going to be staying because my hostel is full
So it's Akihabara Bay Hotel, a capsule hotel for women only
So it's all pink and pretty and it looks really fun
Luckily they took my bag before check in because it was really heavy
Good news and bad news. Well not really bad bad news but let's get it out of the way.
It's bad weather again, it started to rain so we'll probably have weather like yesterday
I can't believe that two days agao I was wearing a t-shirt and no coat and now
I'm with my jumper and coat and scarf
The passers by are all looking at me but duh I'm just vlogging in an alley
and the main road is right in front of me
And now I get to visit the city! I think I'm going to take it a little more chilled than yesterday
cuz yesterday I went -sorry I'm talking really fast but I want to get out of this alley
yesterday I went around so much and I was exhausted and I actually injured my ankle
really stupid story: I got an insect bite, probably a mosquito bite on my ankle
Right where the trousers end and where the boot starts
So the zipper part kept rubbing on it and it just became so red and inflamed and it was blistering
and it's gross so now I put a band aid on it and hopefully it will be ok
Ok I need to get out of this alley because I'm getting all the looks
Yeah I'm embarrassing myself
I don't know where I'm going to go. I pointed out a few areas that looked good on my map
So I'm just going to head to there and we'll see how it goes
This is more of a modern day Tokyo same as yesterday
I don't know how vlogging is going to go. Might be a lot of shops, less interesting things but yeah at least you get this update
to let you know what I'm doing this time. Yeah, I need to get out of this alley
Behind me I'm going to try something called Komaki Shokudo
and it's a vegan Japanese meal and I believe this is zen food
Let's see if they have room for me and have an early lunch because I didn't really have breakfast this morning
So let's go do that. Let me figure it out. It's at this place by the way, in this road
Took me a while to find this one too
Right now I'm in Mandarake
Where you can purchase second hand books and toys... you know.
Made it out.
One of my missions While I was in Japan was to get some of my favourite all time manga from when I was a teenager
in Japanese so the first volume or if they didn't have the first one then one random one
And I don't understand how books are alphabetized here at all. I tried to figure it out but no way
I don't know if it's by author, by title or by hiragana or is it by kanji, that I can't read so
I was looking in the same section for ages looking for Nana cuz I'd already found
One for my stepdad , one for my brother and one for myself
I'll show you everything I bought in another video, things I bought in Japan, I think it'll be easier
And I really wanted Nana so I was looking around and around and I bought my books
and left and then I though 'you know what, this is too dumb, I'm just gonna ask'
So with my worst Japanese -I realize now that what I said made absolutely no sense but she somehow understood me
and she was like 'oh there's a floor for shoujo manga so girl manga upstairs'
and i was like 'ugh my God it was right there' and I got it
I could buy like the whole series, like I don't know, 20 something book for only 25 bucks!
And I wish I could do that but it would make my suitcase way too heavy so I just got the one
So lets take a break here to update
I was in Akihabara for most of the day, walked around, saw what kind of area it was
A lot of anime, manga, collectibles, toys, figurines all that stuff
And then I tried to find a dessert cafe and never found it but
on the way I found that little temple thing -it wasn't a temple, it was a shrine. I keep mixing them up
A little shrine thing that I got to visit with a little more of a traditional feel right in the middle of Tokyo which was quite nice
Now I'm on my way to a garden I think which might not be the best idea seeing the weather but
I wanted to update you guys. Here is Tokyo Dome, there you go, Tokyo Dome behind me
I guess this is Tokyo Dome City
I'm just gonna see if I can find that garden and see if it's worth going there
And then I'm probably going to head back to my capsule hotel to check in
And I really need to pee so... yeah
So I'm here at Koishikawa Korakuen Garden
And it closes at 5. It's almost 4:30 so this was I believe one of the last entries
And I'm so happy I made it because it's quiet and just beautiful
Happy I made it. Worth the trip. I walked here. Definitely worth it
I'm now only realizing how huge this park is and that I probably won't have time to see everything before closing
Which is kind of a shame. It'll be something on my list when I come back
Hungry!
It's a little eerie when you think about it
Park closes in less than 30 minutes, it's about to get dark
I'm all alone here
Could get lost, hopefully not
Maybe I'll just follow this Ojiisan (grandpa) in front of me
It's a shame I can't show this to you properly. It's getting too dark.
And I can't really linger in too many places
At least you can hear the cicadas, the crickets and everything
Ah, here a little light. There we go.
As I was saying, it's getting dark and I don't want to linger on too long at different places
because I do want to be out of the park before they close. I expect they'll
They won't close if there are people in there but
I want to take my time and experience it. I wish I could show you more
but yeah I guess I came too late. Should've checked the time
Would have skipped going to Daiso!
God it's gorgeous!
Jesus, look at this!
The only thing though is that there's no one here. There's literally no one
There was just this Ojiisan who was in front of me
And now he's gone!
So maybe I'll get a move on now.
If I do get lost here and I have to spend the night here it will make for an interesting vlog
Especially since I need to pee since like I don't know, lunch time?
I'll have to pee in the wilderness!
Oh I thought there was a wild animal but we are right next to a
a (amusement) park which kind of ruins the ambiance if you ask me
Though I'm pretty sure you didn't
I can see the Ojiisan! Maybe he's waiting for me?
Making sure I'm still around. Ok where do I need to go now. Let me show you where I'm at
This is an old bridge, looks like. What does it say?
They have these little signs here
I guess by 'it' they mean where I just came from?
All these steps.
Let's be careful cuz I'm about to have to cross through there I think
There we go
Look! A turtle! Can you see him?
Ok let's not fall in please!
Ok, did not fall in
Now.. Ooh, look at that
See I'm at a crossroads again. Should I go this way or that way?
I'm going to go this way because this is the way Ojiisan went
And I keep calling him Ojiisan but he's not that old
Maybe he's my spirit animal you know? Like some people see deers?
And they follow them out of forests and things and my spirit animal is an Ojiisan.
Ok it's actually really dark down there
And maybe this is the entrance?
Could it be?
I believe that I am lost
Look at that! It's like a labyrinth
Oh here's the announcement again saying that I need to get out
Soon
This is getting ridiculous
I just saw Ojiisan again
Oh there we go: exit through that way
Restroom, exit... Shall we go to the exit then? I feel like I haven't seen everything!
But the park is closing... the garden, sorry
it's closing so...
Maybe I should go for the exit
Again: that way or that way?
That way
Where Ojiisan?
Oh, definitely this way
Woah
If you look way way over there
There we go, there he is
Here's my Ojiisan that I'm following down
I'm at the top of the World!
I am
I still need to get out of the park!
I saw the exit and I didn't take it and now I'm like aaah, I need to get out!
Let's get out. I keep saying that but now I lost Ojiisan
And the park closes in ten minutes!
I need to get out of here, aah!
I found the exit
I was a little stressed there for about two minutes and I was like 'mh which way?'
That was amazing. Recommend!
Forgot what it's called though
Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens. Recommend
Perfect way to end the day

BREAKING NEWS Out Of JAPAN… This Could Be REALLY Bad - Duration: 4:22.
Eight men said to be from North Korea have been found washed ashore on the northern coast
of Japan after their boat broke down.
According to Hachiro Okonogi, chairman of the National Public Safety Commission the
men claim they were fishing before the boat broke down.
The boat had a plate bearing the word "Chongjin" — the name of a city in northeastern North
Korea — in Hangul letters.
The men are believed to have left North Korea approximately a month ago.
Initially, they were thought to be defectors from the so-called hermit kingdom as their
washup on the shores of Japan occurred just days after the dramatic defection of a North
Korean soldier shot five times while making a run for the South Korean side of the border
through the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone.
North Korean soldiers fired at him some 40 times though he was only hit with five of
those shots with bullets from both pistols and an AK-47, in violation of the armistice
agreement between the two countries after the Korean War.
The 8 North Korean fishermen vehemently deny that they are defecting however, others speculate
that the fishermen may fear harsh punishment from North Korean government officials under
the reign of Kim Jong Un should they return.
North Korea has been plagued by famine and poor conditions for years.
Since the famine hit in 1995, between 300,000 and 800,000 North Koreans have died each year
from malnutrition and related diseases.
The condition of the recently defected North Korean soldier reveals much as due to his
wounds extensive and immediate surgery was required.
That surgery revealed multiple forms of parasitic worms in a large number, with some up to 10
inches long.
One type is typically found in dogs.
Lee Cook-Jong – the South Korean surgeon that performed his surgery stated of the soldier's
condition –
"In my 20 years as a surgeon, I have only seen something like this in a medical textbook."
The soldier was also found to have hepatitis B, which is generally considered a good indication
of a country's poor sterilization practices in hospitals.
It is speculated that the health of these 8 fishermen is in similar condition.
Escape from North Korea's communist regime is virtually always a perilous one.
One with thousands of miles on buses or sneaking on foot through mountains and valleys amid
falling snow or torrential rain, or by boat into open and many times dangerous open waters
all in the desperate quest to evade border police and start a new life in freedom where
basic necessities such as uncontaminated food are not luxuries.
Since hostilities ceased after the Korean Conflict in 1953 some 300,000 North Koreans
are estimated to have defected from King Jong Un's reign of terror in the tightly controlled
hermit country.
Official statistics published by the Ministry of Unification have documented just over 30,000
defectors since 1998.
That year, at the height of the starvation and famine that claimed over one million lives
in the North, the government registered 302 males and 116 females — a total of 947 North
Korean defectors.
Roughly 225 refugees have been granted direct asylum in the United States from North Korea
as a result of former president George W. Bush signing into the law the North Korean
Human Rights Act of 2004.
The law was intended to promote freedom and human rights to those fleeing the dictatorship.
There are believed to be several hundred illegal North Korean immigrants also residing across
the United States.
Vernon Brewer, founder and president of World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization
that supports the defectors, states –
"Most defectors head to China, but if they are caught there, they will likely be returned
to North Korea, where they are punished harshly.
Therefore, many either live their lives under the radar or make the harrowing trip to South
Korea.
There, North Korean defectors are welcomed by the government.
South Korea longs for reunification and sees the suffering North Koreans as their neighbors."
Meanwhile, South Korean law grants those fleeing the terror of the North automatic citizenship
after a mandatory three-month transition involving debriefing and education in order to prepare
them for lives in a much more free society.

India and Japan are joining forces to beat China in the Asian space race - Duration: 4:52.
India and Japan took their deepening natural partnership into outer space when the Indian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)
divulged that they may jointly carry out a sample-return mission to the moon.
There is a sound rationale for this even though the two countries have independent plans to
go to the moon: ISRO's Chandrayaan-2 orbiter-lander-rover mission is proposed for launch in 2018 and
JAXA's Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) mission in 2019.
They have had success in the past, too: since 2007-08, JAXA's Selene orbiter and ISRO's
first orbiter-impactor, Chandrayaan-1, have found water on the moon, discovered lunar
volcanic tubes, which could serve as sites for human habitation (pdf), and mapped the
eternally dark Shackleton crater, among others.
Their concern is the wide techno-economic gap with Beijing, which is playing an efficient
game of catch-up with Washington.
This, in turn, is affecting the geo-strategic balance of power in the Indo-Pacific, and,
likewise, India's and Japan's security outlook.
Catching up makes comparisons inevitable.
While New Delhi and Tokyo took 10 long years to graduate from orbiter to the forthcoming
landing-roving demonstrations, Beijing undertook four lunar missions from 2007 to 2014.
The last of them, Chang'e 5-T1, went around the moon, practicing a sample-return mission.
In 2018-2019, when India and Japan will carry out SLIM and Chandrayaan-2, Beijing will be
technologically far ahead with its back-to-back sample-return missions, Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6,
that are likely to bring back a few kilograms of lunar soil and rocks for high-end analyses.
These analyses will be vital for Beijing to develop space systems and technologies for
safely carrying out human-rated missions in the 2020s.
Beijing's fast-tracked lunar exploration programme has put it on par with the US and
Russia, which are also preparing for human-rated moon missions in the 2020s.
A joint moon mission makes sense also because it is thriftier to pool resources when up
against the economically stronger countries: China, US, and Russia.
Besides, there are many lessons that Japan can offer India, such as its success with
public-private collaboration in the space launch and exploration sector: for nearly
two decades, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has been the primary manufacturer and operator
of JAXA's expendable launch system.
New Delhi is mulling over privatising the manufacturing, management, and launch operations
of its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle by 2020.
New Delhi and Tokyo will also have to devise the network for communicating with the proposed
spacecraft.
India and Japan currently possess one Deep Space Communication Network (DSCN) antenna
each: a 32 m antenna in Karnataka and one measuring 64 m in Nagano, Japan.
All their outer space missions have been dependent so far on the US DSCN global triad—three
radio antennae, located roughly 120 degrees from each other across the globe—based in
California, Spain, and Australia.
China, Russia, and Europe possess an independent DSCN global triad, which they regarded a national
priority.
Considering the numerous outer space missions, planned by American public agencies and their
thriving private space sector, it is likely that the US DSCN will have too many domestic
liabilities to be available for international customers.
Therefore, Tokyo and New Delhi should use their partnership to build a DSCN infrastructure
each—the state-of-the-art 70 m antenna—on each other's land parcels.
They should together pitch for a property in the Western Hemisphere, akin to what the
Chinese acquired in Patagonia, Argentina.
Lunar exploration technologies that seemed fantasies in the past are now becoming imminent
possibilities.
The rush to acquire them is resulting in a space race in Asia that is additionally yielding
scientific research and techno-economic growth.
It is, therefore, important that the new India-Japan outer-space partnership use the lunar mission
as an opportunity to fill the gaps, techno-economic and otherwise.
