The main problem behind people not wanting to change the world is their
lack of empathy towards the different cultures, simply because they don't
know them. Whether the media has a role in this or because they haven't been
taught enough about it or for some other reason
those people put themselves in a bubble that they call "country", and anything
outside this bubble is none of their interest because supposedly they're not
being affected, right? What they don't know is that anything anybody does has
its repercussion on the world. Look at global warming! So to me this problem is
effectively solvable through education. And by education I don't just mean the
content that is being transmitted to those students, I also mean the context
and the medium in which students are being put to learn. Diversifying classes
is a very effective way to let students understand that differences of ethnic
backgrounds, of religions or others are not discriminating factors of any sorts,
and that differences in general do not always call for setting boundaries. For
college students the best cross-cultural bridge I could think of is exchange
programs. Students will get out of their safety bubble and go be part of a
different, of a different culture. They'll understand new traditions, values, habits,
and will sympathize with the people who have welcomed them, which will give them
a new perspective on this world and will make them see its many aspects. My name
