So I was talking to a good friend of mine about advertising the other day. And
after he gave me his game plan he asked me if I can give him a few tips to help
him along the way. So I gave him a really big one, one he wasn't really expecting.
I told him to stop marketing. Now I know that's weird for a marketer to say to
another business owner to stop marketing but let me explain. So I explained to him
that he's in the "people business" just like anyone that's in business is in the
"people business." So people are looking for leadership, people are looking for
someone to trust, people are looking for someone to follow. So the only thing
that's separating your business, your services or your products from your
competitors or anyone else in your industry is you. So to anyone and
everyone that's listening to this video, watching this video, you are what's
different about your service. You're what's different about your agency. I think
sometimes we forget that these leads that we're so desperate for are not leads.
They're more than just names and phone numbers, these are people that need our
help. So whether you're selling a fitness
apparel like my friend or you're trying to pair someone with the perfect
insurance coverage. You're doing more than providing a service, you're touching
someone else's life. Your service, your product is just bonus on top of what you
do and who you are. So what's my advice? My advice is to stop marketing your
services. Stop marketing about how much money you're gonna save them throughout
the year and stop marketing about all the other things that everyone else is
trying to sell them. Instead try to broadcast who you are, show them how much
knowledge you have in this career field. Show how much love you have for the
industry and also to show them how passionate you are about helping people.
Because at the end of the day, whether you're trying to grow a business,
trying to create raving fans, or you're just trying to build a connection with
another person. It all starts with connecting with another human being. And
I feel like we sometimes lose sight of that what for whatever reasons. Whether
it's afraid of putting yourself out there, whether it's being afraid of being
vulnerable or is it being afraid of rejection. But when we fall back on our
services. When we put our businesses on display, that's easy, that's safe there's
no emotional labor involved. But when we put in the work, when we put in the
emotional labor, that's what magic happens. That's where the connections, the
bonds are made. And then when we fail to reach out to
another human being that's when the connection is lost, that's when the human
element goes missing. So that begs the question, are we here to collect leads or
are we here to help impact someone else's life. We all have different
motivations for why we do what we do. Some of us do it for the money
but most of us do it because of our love for communicating, connecting and helping
other human beings. But in order to do that we have to step outside the box.
Step away from our service and start marketing and selling ourselves. Only
then do we start actually creating connections with other people. So let me
know what you guys think. I would love to know you guys's opinion on this
subject. Am I wrong, am I talking crazy? Or do you all agree that the only way to
actually connect with another person is to broadcast yourselves? Let me know?
Take care.
