Pres. Moon briefed by education, culture, agriculture, and maritime affairs ministries - Duration: 2:41.

President Moon Jae-in visited Sejong Government Complex to be briefed by the Education, Culture,

Agriculture, and Maritime Affairs ministries.

They touched on numerous timely and upcoming issues including the 2018 Winter Games to

be hosted in Pyeongchang.

Lee Ji-won has more from the latest briefing session.

President Moon Jae-in's policy briefing on Wednesday started with the ministries of culture

and education, with the president emphasizing the significant roles that these two ministries

have in the government.

(KOREAN) If we were to look at our military force and

economy as the nation's hard power, while intelligence and culture are our soft power,

the ministries of education and culture are the core pillars where the foundation of that

soft power is established.

( , , .)

The main topic with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was the preparation for

the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Although there are only 5 months left until Korea holds its first Olympic games in 30

years, the public's interest and enthusiasm have been quite low, according to the ministry.

However, the ministry strived to show its determination to overcome such shortcomings

in their meeting with the president.

(Korean) "We layed out our promotional activities to

boost the Olympic spirit and get people interested and involved in the games.

Those would include promoting the games through big events in and outside of the country,

including the Olympic torch relay and the UN General Assembly in September."

The vice minister of culture also mentioned efforts to reduce inconveniences when visiting

the Olympic venues ,... such as creating over 6-thousand new accommodation facilities for

visitors, establishing reasonable prices in restaurants and hotels,... and extending operation

hours of public transportations.

Meanwhile, the education ministry outlined its efforts to provide equal education and

nurture creative talent for the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution... by supporting

public education over private ones... and progressively shutting down autonomous private

high schools and special-purpose schools.

And to reduce the burden on the parents' wallets,..

President Moon asked the ministry to prepare policies on education welfare, such as reducing

private tutoring fees.

(Standup) "In Moon's meetings with the Agriculture and

Maritime Affairs ministries,... many timely topics, including the current food scare,

and the nation's ailing shipping industry were discussed in detail to establish preventive

measures and plans for the coming years.

Family Centered Early Education (FCEE) at CSDB - Duration: 8:41.

Hello, and welcome

to the Family Centered Early Education Program, FCEE.

FCEE is a program, that services students from birth

to the age of eight, here at CSDB.

It's for deaf and hard of hearing,

and for blind and low vision.

I'm the ASL teacher here in the FCEE Program.

I'm responsible for the bilingual education

for students, who are deaf and hard of hearing.

An English teacher and I co-teach.

I'm responsible for the ASL sentence structure piece.

She is responsible for the English sentence structure.

We co-teach.

We want to encourage the students

to have both languages, ASL and English.

I teach ASL classes,

and I observe the students, and determine

what their needs are and provide support in those areas.

The goal here in FCEE is for all students,

who are deaf and hard of hearing,

to all progress and thrive and be successful.

"E", "E, F"

"Miss Pam wants football, football. Yes!"

Hi, I'm Pam. I provide specific supports to the students

regardless of their communication modalities.

My role includes daily instruction

in the areas of: spoken English,

functional communication, language skills,

auditory learning skills, and ASL support and literacy

to include a phonics approach to reading.

"U-G. Bug."

"Fan", "Fan"

"SH"

I have a strong passion for building foundations

in young children to communicate with others

and learn about their world.

"Pam wants fish, fish, fish."

In the classrooms, we emphasize experiential learning

and project-based learning.

"Is it silly, funny, or crazy? It's crazy."

"I is for ice cream. J is for jog."

"Your instruments real quiet, quiet."

"Slow, finished now." "Fast! Fast!"

"(R student) over the ocean."

"Everybody under the sea." [ Laughter ]

There is collaboration between the communities

and parents. We developed a family-centered

ASL class, as well.

Braxton is in the preschool program

and just the preschool setting,

everything is set up in so very kid-friendly.

When he came here and started the school,

it was like a whole new world,

just...he explored a new world.

He was able to communicate.

He signs a lot, primarily signs. He speaks.

I've been able to use the ASL classes, that they offer.

I'm so thankful for that class.

Hello, I'm Darrell.

I'm the father of two children who are deaf.

I am so impressed with FCEE

I know it was just established,

but it is such a good program, and all the teachers sign.

I absolutely love the communication access,

and we'll be able to discuss about my children's future.

The program doesn't only focus on academics,

they also focus on the community.

Like parents, who maybe they don't know

how to sign yet, but want to learn.

The program will always advertise different events,

for social events or signed stories,

getting meals together, and I get to go there,

and I get to see the children.

They're all deaf, and they all sign.

And also be able to meet their parents.

That way I have the connection,

that we can have outside of those events.

If my children want to go over to somebody's house

and I already know, who their parents are.

Then our kids can socialize together.

It's such a great program.

The FCEE team is so excited about our new program.

I'm hoping that you come visit

and take a look for yourself.

I'm just amazed at what he's doing.

He's talking. He's communicating. He's growing.

He's a happy little boy,

and I truly attribute that to CSDB,

and what they've done for me,

and what they're doing for him.

I'm very, very, very pleased.
