Japan military holds annual live-fire drills at Mount Fuji - Duration: 1:28.
Japan's military held its annual live-fire exercise over the weekend... amid rising tensions
with North Korea.
The large-scale demonstrations were open to the public,... allowing Tokyo to boast about
its defensive capabilities.
Park Se-young has more.
Japan's Self-Defense Forces held their annual live-fire exercise on Sunday in Shizuoka prefecture.
According to NHK, around 24-hundred soldiers, 20 aircraft and 80 vehicles were deployed
at training grounds at the foot of Mount Fuji,... some 80 kilometers west of Tokyo.
And for the first time, Japan unveiled its Assault Amphibious Vehicle, designed for assaults
on shorelines and the transportation of both naval infantry and cargo.
The annual drill was carried out under the scenario of the combined forces retaking a
remote island captured by an enemy amid Japan's pressing territorial disputes with China and
Russia.
However, Sunday's drill happened to take place a day after North Korea launched three missiles
into the East Sea.
The live-fire demonstrations have been open to the public since 1966 for a better understanding
of how the Japanese military works.
Around 25-thousand spectators came out on Sunday to watch their military forces fire
weapons ranging from small arms to artillery.

Digitale Kommunikation in Japan – Episode 3: Influencer und Mascots - Duration: 12:35.
Influencer campaigns are booming in Japan.
I don't actually have any relative numbers, but I think
it might actually be a bigger thing than in a lot
of countries around the world.
Yeah, huge now.
I mean it's massively successful.
I think it's in the same product categories as you
would see overseas.
Travel, cosmetics, fashion, those sort of industries are
often using influencer marketing.
Celebrities or like entertainment figures are very very important.
Because social proof is such an important thing
for the Japanese consumer, I think it's really important
that companies who are stable and off to sort of
invest in influencer marketing, they should strongly consider
doing that to sort of better connect to the
Japanese people and improve proliferation
and that sort of thing.
But it's very dynamic.
You find that certain influencers don't really last very long,
so there's always this changing evolution.
Whether it's musicians, or there's actors, or even
just normal people, people who might be a
housewife, it could be a young person, it could be
just somebody with passion that generally tends to
become quite strong.
Und wer sind denn gerade die bekanntesten Influencer in Japan?
If you go to sort of like the, you know, key influencer level,
Naomi Watanabe is probably the most popular one right now.
I think she has the most number of followers in Japan.
You know, she's a very famous television personality.
She's not a musical talent or an actress or anything
like that, she's just basically very simple, just a personality,
they call it a talent.
But she's got a lot of influencer credibility.
Rola, there's another one.
There's quite a few, I mean it's hard to, like,
everyone is representing sort of a different thing,
you know, like Rola is more of a fashion icon, if you will,
but she's got her own, like, personality stuff that she does
on television as well, so.
But and then there's just tons of, well, relative to overseas markets
there's not a ton, but there's quite a few of micro influencers
as well, so people who just have their own their own community
and their own sort of personal brand that they're putting out there in Social.
I think micro influencers is a thing.
100% yeah, you know one thing about Japan is that they're
very humble people.
You don't necessarily go out and talk about what you've done,
so they actually like the little person being successful,
whereas in the West we tend to really promote
the big people further and further and further.
So a lot of great stories rags-to-riches, you know,
people that basically just have a passion,
they focus on something and then do it.
So percentage-wise I'd say it's probably half and half.
I think there's 2 reasons for that, 1, I think sometimes to the talent,
you know, famous people tend to out-price themselves,
so from a marketing point of view, there's no return on the investment,
whereas people that are influencers, people that have passion, initially
they're pretty much motivated just by maybe some product
placement or a small fee.
Depending on the industry you're in, so, if you're in
kind of FMCG and trying to sell like tubs of yogurt or
cans of coke, the trade is really important here,
so the convenience stores, and they're like "well where's
my TV ad with my celebrity in it, so I know that, you know,
people are going to come in my store because they saw
that celebrity drinking a can of a thing?"
And so, for trade strategy it becomes
a harder sell, because they're like
"I don't know who this person is" And so when you're trying to say
"no it'll be fine, all the right people will come to your store
and buy stuff", it's not what trade or sales people are used to.
Und wie steht es um die Authentizität von Influencern?
Bei der Frage scheiden sich die Geister.
The social kind of, the influencer stuff, is very artificial here.
It's kind of like no one really kind of believes anything,
and you have like celebrities trying to sell Corollas, right?
There's no way one of the biggest celebrities in Japan is
trying to sell a Corolla.
He's driving in a Corolla?
He's never gonna drive a Corolla.
Authenticity is not there, but that's for everything.
It's like everything.
Some dude selling something.
For everything, so it's kind of like, and that's the norm right.
So maybe that's what's supposed to happen,
but it doesn't sell anything, it doesn't drive loyalty,
so it's this falsified kind of business model, that TV, media,
so media agencies and talent agencies have created this
wonderful hidden market, at the expense of clients, right?
I think the Japanese people are fairly trusting and put a lot
of faith in others, in that "of course this celebrity believes
in this product.
Why would he or she publish this if they
didn't believe it, right?"
So I think there's a lot of, and I don't think that that's strange,
I think in the Japanese culture, I think, because of the way the culture is,
I think a lot of people are, you know, Japanese people have a lot of integrity,
and so the potential for a Japanese person to refuse
a project because it's not in line with who they want to…
their brand, is a very real thing I think, and so I think it makes sense
that a lot of Japanese people trust their idols or their
role models, you know.
Und woher kommt eigentlich die Beliebtheit von Influencer
Relations in Japan?
Klar, Social Proof ist sehr wichtig, besonders in Japan,
aber wie Chris erklärt, gibt es noch einen weiteren Grund.
They still hang on to a very commission-driven model,
so 15 % commission, sometimes up to 30,
depending on the channel that you're using.
Digital sometimes is 30 if it's kind of, if they
have a relationship, or if they've invested in
creating content with them, so it's a very high margin industry.
And so oftentimes what happens is the margins are so good
on media that production is often not as profitable.
So everyone's wants to do media, no one wants to do production,
and that's why the work suffers as a result,
because the business models skew towards kind of like
trying to get the media job.
And then they try to get the creative done as fast and
efficiently as possible.
That's why you have a lot of talent ads and kind of
like celebrity-driven ads, because, you know,
they don't need an idea anymore.
So yeah, media is I think is one of the biggest problems here,
and I think it's causing a lot of issues in terms
of why Japanese companies haven't been able to
elevate themselves, in terms of branding and kind of
understanding customers.
They're very good at making stuff, like phones or gadgets,
but they're very bad at building brands.
So yeah, but I think the business model
has a lot to do with it, so that's why we're here to
try to change that hopefully, we'll see.
Aber auch wenn Influencer Relations nur der Ersatz
für eine kreative Idee sind, sind sie denn trotzdem effektiv?
Yeah, cause everyone likes celebrities here and it's kind of like,
but I don't know if it's really influencing anything.
So for, I have a friend who is, you know, loves a particular kind
of celebrity.
They follow that person wherever they go
and they buy their product that, whatever that person promotes,
right?
And, which is fine, right?
But so I said why do you keep buying that, you know, beverage,
because so-and-so is sponsoring it and like, would you like to keep
drinking it and they're like "no".
Then when, the minute that the sponsorship ends,
they stop drinking it, right?
There's zero loyalty, because they're only loyal
to the celebrity, they're not loyal to the brand.
And so all these brands see spikes in sales, but they never
see the brand value go up, right?
Because if no one really cares about, and it's all about the celebrities,
not about the product, right?
Everyone remembers the celebrity, not the product,
and that's what people don't, I don't understand why they
don't understand that.
But it's all about getting the bigger celebrity, or more celebrities.
I think the mentality domestically is yeah, if they're doing it,
we should do it.
Often things happen with no real logic, you know,
"why are we doing that?", well, cause that competitor's doing that.
And that's the problem, because they've got…
the guys with the money say "look who we've got"
and they're like "ahhh man I want it"
and then everyone's trying to one-up everyone else, right,
and it's just kind of like, who's got the better celebrity,
but it has nothing to do with product, so it's, yeah,
I'm very bitter about this.
Somehow similar to the celebrity effect using a
symbolic cute animal as a brand image or as their
symbol is quite popular too.
Yeah, there are a lot of brands that use
character branding in Japan.
Yeah cause it's something right?
They don't really have anything, it's like "let's do something cute,
that other guy did that and that seemed to work,"
but I mean like this whole cute culture,
I think is something that's true in Japan.
I think it has value.
I think that sort of that character licensing level
of marketing I think is still pretty effective here.
I think Japanese people don't respond as much to cool
as they do cute.
It's just how it is, you know, and so when you execute a campaign
that's got a level of cute to it, a level of sort of like light fun,
happiness to it, then people respond well to that.
Mascots are easy to sell and they're cheap on TV as talent,
you don't have to pay them that much, so.
So, we have some client for whom we did competitor research
and asked about, for example, top-of-mind awareness of their
competitors and sometimes, you know, they would say
"I remember like that cat, or like that dog,
that looks like this", but they don't really remember
the brand by name, which is very interesting.
Now just cause someone has a mascot, doesn't mean you need a mascot.
Like, every prefecture has a mascot.
Does that, do you need one?
And so it's, you know, there's a lot of business that grows
out of it I guess, and I guess it's fine.
I mean, it's a huge thing in Japan, right?
In Japan there's something called "Yuru Chara", which is,
every region of Japan and even in like just a city, will have, like,
its own character, you know.
In Japan they, the prefectures themselves are kind of very,
they try to kind of create a brand for themselves.
So whether it's food or whether it's culture or language
or some sort of vibe.
So that's, I think prefectures do better jobs than businesses
to try to build something, try to be known for something, right?
And then they get these characters to sell that stuff that they're
known for, right?
So in that context, maybe it's kind of,
maybe smarter than what, I guess, normal companies are doing.

My 2nd trip to Japan !! Kyoto part 1 - Duration: 10:07.
I'm currently in Kyoto
I've just started walking in a mountain, that's not what I had planned
I was walking on walking trail
The path went higher and higher
So I kept following the track
So I went from a ground level of 30 meters to 178 meters
It's a bit hard !
I wasn't prepared for that
But the view from the top is worthy
So I keep walking higher
Walking there is not easy with sneakers
So I will try to see what's on the top
There is an other altar here
The path seems to go even higher
I don't think I have enough energy to go to the top
I'm coming down
But I got to be careful not to fall
But I have to admit that my knees don't like it at all !!
I have old man knees
I don't feel like I'm 22
More like 50 !! (LOL)
From here, it'll be easier to walk
I want an ice cream -_-
In this kind of moment, I'm telling to myself that I should exercise more
And every time I want to exercise, I'm telling to myself that I will do it later
Once again, I went off the beaten tracks
I don't know where to go !
I don't know where it's gonna lead me !
Dunno if I'm going there
Or There
I dunno what to do :'(
This way, no !
I'll fall there
Well, I'm going to try a path !

North Korea v USA news LIVE: Kim Jong-un launches 'ballistic' missiles into Sea of Japan
Monday August 28 5:10am: Kim Jong-un writes to UN Security to complain about aggressive behaviour by the US.
NORTH Korea has written to the UN Security Council to demand discussion over "provocative and aggressive" South Korean and US military exercises, the state media reported on Sunday.
His complaints follow years of military threats from the tyrannical ruler, who has previously pledged to wipe the US off the face of the earth.
This is the latest protest by the hermit kingdom against the 10-day Ulchi Freedom Guardian Exercise which is due to end Thursday.
The Ulchi Freedom Guardian Exercise involves a total of 17,500 troops from the US, South Korea, Britain, and elsewhere taking part in exercises in Goyang, South Korea to prepare for war against despot leader Kim Jong-un.
The US described the exercises as "defensive in nature" although North Korea dismissed their claims as a "deceptive mask".
Sunday August 27 2:50pm: Tillerson says firing of three missiles by North Korea was an act of provocation US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday the firing of three ballistic missiles by North Korea this week was a provocative act but that the US will continue to seek a peaceful resolution.
He said in an interview with Fox News: "The firing of any ballistic missile is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions. "We do view it as a provocative act against the United States and our allies.
Were going to continue our peaceful pressure campaign as I have described it, working with allies, working with China as well to see if we can bring the regime in Pyongyang to the negotiating table. Mr Tillerson also denied that he and President Donald Trump had misread North Korean leader Kim Jong-un when they said he appeared to be succumbing to diplomatic pressure.
He said: The firing of any ballistic missile is a violation of U.N.
11:08am: Americans tourists rush to North Korea Americans hoping to see Pyongyang are scrambling to book flights before they are banned from entering the reclusive nation. From September 1, 2017 US passports will not be valid for travel to North Korea.
The ban was imposed after the death of Otta Warmbier, the Ohio student who was locked up in North Korea for more than a year, and who was returned to his family in a coma.
The US State Department has confirmed that Americans will be able to travel to the DPRK with "special validation".
US passports will be invalid for travel to, through and in North Korea, and individuals will be required to obtain a passport with a special validation in order to travel to or within North Korea, a spokesperson told CNN.
4am: A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency has claimed the secretive state are continuing to develop materials for use in nuclear weapons, while construction is underway to expand their facility in Yongbyon.
In a report the IAEA said: There were indications consistent with the reactors operation, including steam discharges and the outflow of cooling water, "Based on past operational cycles, the current cycle could be expected to continue until late 2017.".
Saturday August 26 10.15pm: North Korea's new video game which allows players to kill US Marines A new video game has been released in North Korea which allows players to kill US Marines, according to the country's state-run media.
The first-person shooting game, titled 'Hunting Yankee', challenges players to shoot US troops and has been branded as a sniper-rifle battle against US injustice.
Arirang-Meari, a North Korean online media outlet, reports: "The 3D-amusement entertainment program 'Hunting Yankee' is a fighting game of shooting and knocking down Yankees with a sniper gun… behind enemy lines.
"Users can perform a variety of special actions in a virtual world reminded of a cliff-hanger battle scene." 7:20pm: North Korea denounced US report accusing the regime of religious persecution North Korea has denounced a US report that accused its regime of severe religious persecution and accused Washington of trying to tarnish Pyongyang's image.
The country's state-run news agency, KCNA, said North Korea categorically rejected the report, branding it as the thing that does not deserve even a passing note." A spokesman for the countrys Religious Believers Council said the US action is nothing but a last-ditch effort for tarnishing at any cost the international image and strategic position (of North Korea).
and further fanning up the climate of sanctions and pressure against the DPRK. . 4:02pm: US military revises statement on North Korea missile test The US Pacific command has revised its initial statement that said two of the three missiles "failed in flight".
US officials have confirmed that North Korea's ballistic missile launches yesterday travelled more than 155 miles, but posed no threat to the US mainland or Guam.
US Pacific Command said: "The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined that the three ballistic missile launches did not pose a threat to North America.
The US Pacific Command determined the three ballistic missile launches from North Korea did not pose a threat to Guam.
"US Pacific Command stands behind out ironclad commitment to the security of our allies in the Republic of Korea and Japan." 11:56am: North Korea's latest missile test was not a threat to Japan, according to the Japanese Government.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga confirmed that the projectiles did not strike Japanese waters and said they posed no direct threat to the nation's safety.
10:10am: Kim Jong-un prepares to invade South Korean Islands Kim Jong-un is preparing his soldiers to take over a South Korean island, North Korea's state propaganda has revealed.
In a series of simulated drills, warplanes and missile launchers bombarded a mocked-up war zone. Simulated attacks on South Korea's border islands of Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong saw paratroopers leap from planes while others swept into position on dinghies.
The DPRK state media said Kim "expressed great satisfaction" with the exercises. .
9:40am: US 'ready to fight' North Korea The US has revealed its army is ready to attack North Korea at any time. General Vincent Brooks said: "We have the responsibility of providing military options to our national leaders.
"Exercises are a way of making the option is a ready option, a capable option.
"Being in readiness to fight tonight, if we have to, is something we will do." These latest North Korea missile tests come as thousands of US and South Korean troops are taking part in joint military exercises. 9am: US officials have claimed North Korea's three short-range missile launches either failed or exploded almost immediately.
Reporting from its Hawaii headquarters, US Pacific Command said: The first and third missiles at 11.49am (10.49pm BST) and 12.19pm (11.19pm BST) failed in flight. "The second missile launch at 1207pm (1107pm BST) appears to have blown up almost immediately." 8am: North Korea launch 'ballistic missiles' Kim Jong-un last night, according to the United States military.
The missiles are believed to have been launched from the North Korean province of Gangwon. They flew for about 155 miles (250km) before landing in the Sea of Japan.
The projectiles were launched at 06:49 on Saturday (21:49 GMT Friday), South Koreas defence ministry said.
